Karen Jones is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Biography[]
Karen makes her first appearance persuading Arthur Morgan to let her, Tilly and Mary-Beth accompany him and Uncle to Valentine. Karen seduces a man in a hotel room but things turn ugly and he starts to beat her. Luckily, Arthur arrives and either knocks out or strangles her attacker and they leave.
After Sean MacGuire is rescued and returns to camp, he rekindles his relationship with Karen and they make love in John Marston's tent.
After the gang relocates to Clemens Point, Karen, Arthur, Bill Williamson and Lenny Summers return to Valentine and raid the bank. However, after Sean's death, Karen falls into depression and starts drinking. She later disappears from the gang in Beaver Hollow. It is unknown whether she deserted the gang along with Pearson, Uncle and Mary-Beth, or whether she wandered off and was murdered.
What happens to Karen afterwards is unknown, although Tilly worries that she drank herself to death.
Personality[]
Karen gradually grew to appreciate the outlaw lifestyle she was leading. Bold and daring, she took pleasure in partying with her outlaw counterparts. A scene-stealer, Karen regularly made use of her sharp acting abilities in various robberies and frauds. As one of the only two female figures in the gang aside from Sadie, she was often entrusted to keep watch over the camp. But like the rest of the women in the gang, Karen surprisingly nurtured an affection for the kid Jack Marston, as evidenced when she ensured his safe return from Angelo Bronte.
Underneath her daring persona, however, Karen had a deep-rooted vulnerable side. As noted in her biography, Karen's past of recklessness was beginning to catch up to her and she started crying during her sexual encounter with Sean, expressing that she wanted someone to "see her", to which Sean responded in his usual promiscuous, ostentatious way. After his death, Karen only spiraled further into depression as she combined boozing with her distress over the gang's weariness. This was evident in her behavior with the other gang members, being both melancholic and hostile to them.
Trivia[]
- Karen and Sadie Adler are the gang's only regular female combatant members, although Abigail Marston and Susan Grimshaw shoot Andrew Milton and Molly O'Shea, among firing upon associates of Anthony Foreman, after perceiving them as threats. Despite this, she is not considered a gunslinger and mostly helps them with chores or scams.
- Karen is the only camp member to ever address Reverend Orville Swanson as Orville, though she usually calls him "Reverend" or "Swanson".
