Gladiator Robots are minor antagonists in the 2009 film, Astro Boy. They are robots built by Hamegg that are deployed to fight each other, as well as kill Astro Boy in the arena.
Biography[]
Prior Life[]
Not much is known about those robots, but it appears they are built by Hamegg with the sole purpose of fighting each other yearly at his annual Robot Games, a gladiatorial competition where robots are forced to fight to the death.
Astro Boy[]
One of his robots, named Tiger, are first shown trained by Hamegg to prepare fighting for the annual robot games. Although it ends up being crushed by Zog. On the day of the games, one of his other robots are shown at a waiting room, where he is motivated by one of the arena's crew members to prove if he is the robot and to show no mercy. This was when Hamegg suddenly reveals his true nature by saying that robots are just nothing but junk that need to be destroyed and enslaved, before he began to zap Astro Boy with a taser after accidentally finding out that he is also a robot himself earlier.
During the competition, the first robot deployed to kill Astro is a Samurai-type robot with buzzsaws. Astro then refused to fight and compete and tried to escape only to find out that the arena is ray shielded, making escape impossible. Despite this, he then continuously dodged the buzzsaws of the robot before he proceeded to lift it onto the arena's ray shield, destroying it and throwing it into the ground. It was then cleared away by bulldozer robots.
The next robot deployed is the Little Stinker, a cute little robot that transforms into two attack robots. When it approaches Astro, it appears to be friendly, telling Astro if they want to play with them. When Astro wonders, the robots reveal their true nature, transforming into two attack robots that proceeded to attack Astro Boy and laughed maniacally. Astro was able to dodge them and trick the other one, allowing the tall, skinny robot to destroy the round one. Astro proceeded to use its remains' gatling guns to destroy the other one before throwing it to the ground.
Angered, Hamegg orders every single robot to destroy Astro Boy as they emerge out from the arena to surround him. As the robots surround Astro, the Robot Revolutionary Front suddenly appears, with Sparx saying that they have a feather that will destroy them only for the robots to burn it to ashes and throwing them off the arena. Astro then proceeded to fight every single robot before destroying them with a whirlwind. With all the robots destroyed, Hamegg deployed ZOG to fight Astro but the robot refused. Angered, Hamegg forced Astro to fight, but Zog, began an attempt to kill Hamegg only for Astro to spare his life before he was captured by President Stone and brought to the Ministry of Science.
