“ | I've never considered you an ally. Not even for a second. Not you. Not Kushida. Not Hirata. People are nothing but tools to me. All of them. I don't care what I have to do to win. I don't care what I have to sacrifice. In this world, winning is everything. In the end... I'm going to win. That's all that matters. | „ |

~ Kiyotaka Ayanokōji |
Kiyotaka Ayanokōji is the main protagonist of the manga, anime and light novel series Classroom of the Elite. He is currently a second-year student at Koudo Ikusei Senior High School and is the most famous and successful student from the White Room. On the entrance exam he purposely scored 50 out of 100, which placed him in Class 1-D. He got promoted to Class 1-C but went back to 1-D due to Tsukishiro's sabotage at the Event Selection Exam.
He was voiced by Natsuki Hanae in the PV 2015, by Shōya Chiba in Japanese and by Justin Briner in English.
Appearance[]
Ayanokōji is a slim young man with an average height of 176 cm, brown yellow pupils and brown hair. He has been stated to be very attractive by many of his female classmates like Kei Karuizawa who placed him as the hottest boy of the top 10 in the whole high school. As for Kushida, she mentioned that he ranked 5th among male students within the 1st year. He has often been wearing his high school uniform, which is red with golden linings and a dark blue tie and teal pants along with black leather shoes.
He is seen to have a muscular, well-built body as stated by Horikita, presumably due to the time that he spent training in the White Room. She interrogated him if he played any sports after getting to look at his arms and abdomen muscles, which Ayanokōji denied.
Throughout the anime and light novel he has rarely been shown with any facial expressions giving him an unconcerned and cold emotionless look especially in his eyes. Even in his flashbacks as a child, he has been seen with indifferent expressions during his time in the White Room. It was also stated by others that he never once showed any signs of sadness and has never smiled, which he was being called an abnormal for.
At the near end of the opening of the second season, Ayanokōji was seen wearing a jester-like white smiling mask that is divided into two side; one side with a regular dark eye, the other one with a cross-shaped scar around the eye of the left side. The right side signifies Ayanokōji's desire to live a normal life as a high school student and the left of his mask signifies his sinister, darker and manipulative side and him as a student of the White Room since the eye has a darker design.
Personality[]
Ayanokōji has been showing little to no emotion since a very young age. He is very cunning and always tends to manipulate others. He is often the one manipulating the wires behind the scene in many situations, making him stand out as one of the (if not the) most clever students in his high school.
Because he spent the majority of his childhood in the White Room, he has been shown to have very poor socializing skills and would rather avoid unnecessary talks. Therefore Ayanokōji talks in a very basic way as shown during his introduction in front of his class. Despite his laziness, he is always planning in his mind to take advantage of the school rules, such as when he obtained the test questions from an old test by rewarding 15,000 points to an older student in Class D, or when he prevented Ken Sudō from getting expelled by paying off his teacher Sae Chabashira.
Due to his poor communication skills, he leaves people the feeling of being a cunning, gusty individual. He has been shown to lack empathy, as he stated himself that humans are nothing but tools that he uses however he wants. If he does not see anyone as useful, he presumably would be unconcerned, as shown with Maya Satō whose feelings for Ayanokōji were turned down by him. This is possibly why he prevented Ken Sudō’s expulsion as he sees potential in him as someone useful for his plans. He still maintains his calm in very dangerous situations and does not care as long as it can help him achieve his goals even if it means sacrificing others. However, despite being cold-hearted, it is actually not known whether or not he really cares about the people that he spends the most time around, especially his classmates like Suzune Horikita, or if he just wants to use them as “tools” whenever needed.
Along with his heartless nature, he is very careful when befriending others. For example, he does not have complete faith in Suzune Horikita, thinking that her possible betrayals can deal significant damage to his plans.
Abilities[]
“ | Manabu Horikita: You move well. Do you practice something?
Ayanokōji: Piano and calligraphy. |

Ayanokōji initially appears to be a normal teenager just like everyone else at the start. However on the inside he is actually a prodigy that was trained from a very young age within the White Room, an organization created by his father Atsuomi Ayanokōji with the goal to create a better and more powerful generation of individuals than anyone else. Ayanokōji's intelligence, talents and abilities stood above anyone else that has every worked and studied for the White Room. Nevertheless, despite being more talented than anyone else, Ayanokōji prefers to hide his abilities, even though his father told him in the past that "those who hide their innate talents are fools", which also fits his nature of not wanting to attract attention from others.
- Manipulation Mastery: Ayanokōji's manipulating skills are presumably his greatest weapon, allowing him to pull the strings on other characters without them even knowing throughout the series, and often making him the one behind the scene of many incidents. His exceptional talents in the art of manipulation provide him with a view of everyone being nothing but tools for him. He knows exactly whom to use and manipulate to pursue his objectives, as for instance this helped him winning a test in his class.
- Genius-Level Intelligence: As the most successful, most talented, strongest and smartest individual of the entire White Room's history, Ayanokōji has displayed a very high level of intelligence since only the age of 2 during the time he spent there. The first example of his incredible intelligence was the choice of manipulating his mark on purpose to get exactly 50 out of 100 on the entrance exam for each subject, thinking that this was the average score and because of his choice of not wanting to gain attention from others. He alone also manages to quickly discover the plan of Class 1-C and Class 1-A during a test, proving himself to be even more intellectual than Horikita, who is known as the top student of her class, easily getting the highest grades during tests. When Horikita later on discovered Ayanokōji's potential, it led her to ask him for help to reach Class-A.
- Mastery of all Martial Art Degrees: Aside from incredible intellectual abilities, the organization taught the students various martial arts as Ayanokoji appears to be the only student that managed to master several martial arts degrees such as Karate, Aikido, Muay Thai, Boxing, Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Krav Maga making him an extremely dangerous individual. The first display of his fighting style was his confrontation against Kakeru Ryūen and his gang in order to save Kei Karuizawa. He was able to take all of them alone without much efforts. Such as his short fight battle against Mio Ibuki, another skilled martial fighter that uses Capoeira martial art who was took down soon after took down with a chop neck technique by Kiyotaka who effortlessly dodges her kicks.
