Biography[]
Past[]
Little is known about Dark Specter or how he came to become the Grand Monarch of Evil. Some years ago, Dark Specter hired Darkonda to kidnap a child to raise as a super-villain. He ended up kidnapping Karone, sister of Andros (the future Red Space Ranger) who Ecliptor would raise into the supervillainess Astronema. Presumably, Dark Specter rewarded Darkonda with his nines lives for this task.
Using the fear many other villains had for his immense power, Dark Specter forced them to serve him in a new organisation dubbed the United Alliance of Evil which had the ultimate goal of conquering the entire universe. He was able to subjugate the Evil Space Aliens, Machine Empire and Divatox's Crew although groups like Scorpius' army somehow managed to remain independent. However, although the various villain groups and their leaders were all subordinate to Dark Specter, he allowed them to operate independently and use his organisation's resources to become stronger since this would keep them loyal and give him greater resources to use in the future.
Zeo[]
After Master Vile leaves the Earth in disgrace, the Machine Empire defect from the United Alliance of Evil to attack Rita Repulsa and Power Rangers and attempt to one-up them. Despite the in-fighting, Dark Specter does not intervene because they fear him enough to obey his orders when the time comes. After Rita and Zedd destroy the Royal House of Gadgetry, Dark Specter has them rebuilt in exchange for rejoining the United Alliance of Evil.
Turbo[]
During Divatox's campaign on Earth, Dark Specter organises an attack on Eltar and succeeds in capturing Zordon who he begins draining his power and then calls a meeting of the United Alliance of Evil to celebrate (or rather brag). He sends a messenger to Earth to get Divatox who initially refuses since she has just destroyed the Power Chamber but Dark Specter's mention makes her immediately move.
In Space[]
During the meeting, Dark Specter makes his first appearance pretentiously announcing his capture of Zordon but Andros is found spying on his meeting. Dark Specter tries and fails to hit him on before sending two Quantrons in Velocifighters to destroy him but they are destroyed and he escapes. Angered, Dark Specter sends Astronema after him despite Divatox and Rita Repulsa asking him to make them the leaders. Later, when the Space Rangers and Karone try to save Zordon, Dark Specter sets up a trap for them and even pretends to be Zordon but the Rangers escape. However, he captures Ecliptor and gives Darkonda control of the Dark Fortress before he manages to use cybernetic enhancements to regain control of Karone when. However, this backfires on the Grand Monarch of Evil since it makes Astronema so evil that she turns on her former master.
Dark Specter eventually initiates a universal invasion by the United Alliance of Evil which is an extreme success because the combined forces of Rita and Zedd, the Machine Empire, and Divatox's Crew horribly outnumber the Aquitarian, Gold Zeo and Phantom Rangers and the Blue Senturion while Astronema fights the Space Rangers. However, when Astronema reports to him, he is assaulted by Darkonda who attempts to destroy him with a missile capable of annihilating a planet. Though it works, Dark Specter manages to swallow Darkonda's jet, taking the bounty hunter with him. His death enables Astronema to take supreme control of the United Alliance of Evil.
Legacy[]
With her "master" dead, Astronema took control of the United Alliance of Evil and ordered the other factions to obey her. However, since the being everyone feared was gone, the organisation began to fracture with at least Rita and Zedd deciding to stop following orders and operate independently. Ultimately, Dark Specter's true dream was never realized as Andros killed Zordon at his request which released a giant wave of good energy that either disintergrated or redeemed all members of the UAE; putting a permanent end to his ambitions.
Part of Dark Specter's remains were eventually acquired by Prince Olympius in 2000, to enhance a fire demon.
In 2023, a revived Lord Zedd gloated how he wished he could rub it in Dark Specter's face how he had stolen the powers of of six Morphin Masters.
Personality[]
Dark Specter was a ruthless, tyrannical, sadistic and cruel creature whose only interest was conquest and advancing his own goals and was willing to do anything to advance his own power. This ranged from backstabbing allies if it benefited him, blackmailing the Machine Empire into serving him to be rebuilt and brainwashing Karone back into Astronema to use as a pawn.
However, it was ultimately his own arrogance that was Dark Specter's undoing. Being unwilling to let Astronema go lead to Darkonda brainwashing her into being cold and apathetic to such an extent that she plotted against Dark Specter almost destroyed him by by her siphoning his power to fuel the Psycho Rangers. In the end, it was his
Trivia[]
- Dark Specter bore an unmistakable resemblance to Maligore due to the same suit being reused albeit with additions to his cheeks to flap out and attempt to hide this fact.
- This was lamp shaded by Divatox when he appeared at the meeting of the United Alliance of Evil and she said he reminded her of her fiancé).
