Leaping lizards!
~ Anežka's catchphrase.

Anežka, later known as Anežka Archuletta after marriage, is the secondary antagonist of Jane the Virgin. She is Petra Solano's evil twin sister bent on taking over her life.

Like Petra, she is portrayed by Yael Gobrass, who later played Psi in Supergirl.

Biography[]

Background[]

Magda gave birth to twin daughters Anežka and Natalia, but could only afford to raise one baby and chose Natalia (who was renamed Petra) and abandoned Anežka in an orphanage growing up without care. Anežka became a fearful survivor who grew up in the Czech Republic as a pickpocket. As a result, she picked up a Czech accent that she can't shake off and dyed her hair brunette to be differentiated from Petra.

Meeting Petra[]

In 2017, Anežka came to Miami where she finally met her long-lost twin sister, who is now co-owner of the Marbella hotel and the mother of twin daughter Elsa and Anna. Anežka gets a waitress job at The Marbella and is introduced to her sister's ex-husband Rafael and best friend Jane Villenueva. Thinking it would please Petra, Anežka forges an email under Jane's name to the college she teaches at to advertise her essay-writing business, getting Jane fired and straining her friendship with Petra.

Revealing her true colors[]

On the eve of Jane's wedding to Michael Cordero, Anežka paralyzes Petra with a narcotic syringe and switches their hair colors to impersonate her. For months, Anežka kept injecting Petra with the same drug to keep her paralyzed. While impersonating Petra, she slept with Rafael and started a romance with Scott Archuletta, the lounge manager at The Marbella. She also caused a fight with Jane and pushed her into a pool. When Jane accidentally startled "Petra", she recognized Anežka's distinctive shriek and warned Rafael that "Petra" is really Anežka. Just as Anežka was about to drug Petra again, Rafael stops her and allows Petra to finally awaken from her paralysis.

Petra's Revenge[]

After getting her blonde hair back, Petra punishes Anežka by tattooing the words "Not Petra" on her forehead and breaks up with Scott (who is still under the impression he was dating Petra). However, Rafael told Scott that Anežka was the one he was dating and they end up getting married. However, Petra sabotages their relationship by luring Anežka to a Czech event and breaks up with Scott disguised as Anežka.

Reunion[]

Three years later, Scott was murdered and Anežka mourned her ex-husband's death. She also gets Magda out of prison, and Magda finally reconnects with her family. On the eve of Jane's parents' wedding, Anežka meets Luisa Alver, Rafael's adopted sister, who helps her realize that Petra was behind her breakup with Scott. Likewise, Anežka informs Luisa that Rafael lied about having cancer again to arrest Luisa's girlfriend Rose and revealed to her Emiliano's will disinherting Rafael from his shares of The Marbella because he's adopted.

While Luisa takes over the Marbella and kicks Rafael out, Anežka steals Rafael's phone and texts Petra luring her into the pier where she tries to kill her with a gun. Fortunately, Anežka gets distracted by a text message on Rafael's phone allowing Petra to take the gun from her, knocking them both into the ocean. Although Anežka was believed to have drowned, she returned to The Marbella weeks later to expose Petra impersonating her in front of Luisa. She then blackmails Petra into letting her stay in The Marbella or else she will reveal that Petra lied about being in contact with her sister in the aftermath of Scott's murder.

Revenge and Death[]

To take over the Marbella, Anežka gaslights Luisa into believing she's hallucinating a man named Carl (an actor she and Magda hired), causing Luisa to committ herself to an asylum with her insanity defense legally entitling Petra's family to The Marbella. Petra eventually discovers that "Carl" is real when she finds his breath spray and sees security camera footage of Luisa's meetings with him. To convince her sister to clear Luisa's name, she claims to Anežka that their mother was using her to claim ownership of The Marbella and didn't care about her. To test this, Anežka fakes her death with a dummy hanging and has actors playing peremedics to check the "body".

At her own funeral, Anežka reveals to herself to Petra and explains how she faked her death to see who cared about her death the most. Petra then allows Anežka to disguise as her again to trick Magda into admitting she didn't care Anežka was death. However, while to talking to her nieces as Petra, Anežka then realizes that Petra didn't care about her death either and only cried at the funeral because her eyes were watered by her perfume. Completely outraged that nobody in her family ever loved her, Anežka confronts Petra in her penthouse. Petra initially tries to ignore Anežka and walk away, but Anežka gets her attention by threatening Elsa and Anna. Finally having had enough of her sister ruining her life, Petra charges at Anežka and accidentally throws her off the balcony to her death, as the railings were sabotaged by Magda.

Legacy[]

Anežka's death left a major impact in ruining Petra's life. Petra was charged with murdering her sister and had to hire a lawyer named Jane Ramos to clear her name. This led to Petra discovering her bisexuality as she fell in love with JR and eventually dated her. However, JR eventually finds out Petra lied about her sister's murder being self-defense and temporarily broke up with her.
