- "Is he speaking? Do you understand him?"
"In a way. Grogu and I can feel each other's thoughts." - ―Din Djarin, having telepathy explained to him by Ahsoka Tano
Telepathy, known to the Chiss as Second Sight, was the ability to mentally communicate and interact with other individuals, as well as to transmit and receive information to and from the minds of others.
Description[]
Telepathy was the ability to mentally communicate and interact with other individuals through the Force, as well as to transmit and receive information to and from the minds of others.[2]
Applications[]
- "Sister. So... you have a twin sister. Your feelings have now betrayed her too."
- ―Darth Vader uses telepathy to read Luke Skywalker's thoughts and learn of the existence of his daughter, Leia Organa
Some Force-users were able to communicate with each other through the Force.[4] Telepathy could be difficult for a Jedi to use.[2]
Telepathy among the Chiss was known as Second Sight. The power typically manifested in young Chiss Force-sensitives around the age of ten and faded as they grew older, along with other Force powers. When used to touch the mind of another Chiss with the same power, Second Sight carried the risk that both would become lost in each other's minds.[5]
Lacking a mouth or other organ for audible speech, the Setaran species communicated with other sentients via telepathy.[6]
Users[]
During the High Republic Era, Jedi Master Avar Kriss possessed the rare ability to detect the natural Force bonds between Force-sensitives and strengthen them, linking the minds of many Jedi together through a form of telepathy that allowed all those connected to transmit feelings and sensations to each other without the need of words. Kriss used the ability to great effect during the Great Hyperspace Disaster, the Battle of Kur,[7] and the destruction of Starlight Beacon.[8]
The Iktotchi Jedi Master Saesee Tiin was a naturally superior telepath.[4] Mace Windu was able to send a telepathic message to his Jedi space fleet many planets away from the catacomb lair of Guattako on the planet Oosalon.[9] While on a mission to Mokivj, Anakin Skywalker was trapped in a prison cell. There, the Jedi Knight could feel the presence of his wife Padmé Amidala but could not speak to her with his mind. Thrawn believed that Skywalker would be able to do so and urged him to, but Skywalker responded that it did not work that way.[2] Members of the Agbui species possessed a form of telepathy allowing them to read the emotions and desires of other sentients when touching them.[10]
The Jedi Padawan Luke Skywalker was able to call out to his twin sister Leia Organa using telepathy when he needed rescuing on Cloud City,[11] as did Darth Vader to convince Luke to turn to the dark side and learn that she was his daughter.[3] Kylo Ren was also an experienced telepath, capable of extracting information from even unwilling targets.[12] He could have conversations with other Force users from light years away, such as Palpatine or Supreme Leader Snoke.[13][14] Telepathy was amongst the powers of Snoke, whom had achieved a great mastery of it.[15]
The navigator Vah'nya possessed Second Sight and used it to connect with the memories of Un'hee, another Chiss Force-sensitive.[5] Although not true telepaths, the Mahran species were able to faintly sense the emotions of others.[16] The disembodied B'omarr monks, who remained alive as bottled brains mounted on spider-like droid legs, communicated telepathically, with the help of a telepath response unit.[17]
