The scan grid was a piece of mining equipment that was occasionally used for more nefarious purposes, such as torture and interrogation, and as such was sometimes known as an interrogation array. In some of these instances, the sight of the device was so horrifying to the target that it often yielded the interrogator's desired results without even being switched on.^[3]

History[]

In 0 ABY a scan grid was used on Kalist VI by Lieutenant Zuud to torture Jorin Sol.

In 3 ABY, Darth Vader used one in Cloud City's security tower on Bespin to torture Han Solo.^[1] This scan grid had been specifically commissioned by Vader for use on Han, with it being designed and tested by the city's Ugnaught engineers.^[4]
