- "Tell your master I find his hospitality most generous, but an allergy to most insects means I'll have to decline snacking on those crunchbugs."
- ―Corran Horn refuses crunchbugs offered to him by Shala the Hutt
Crunchbugs were a non-sentient species of insects that were enjoyed as a snack food by members of the Hutt species. They produced chirping or peeping sounds. In 11 ABY, the Hutt crime lord Shala offered the Jedi Corran Horn a bowl of live crunchbugs in his base on the planet Courkrus, but the Force-sensitive had to decline as he claimed to have an allergy to insects. Horn later reflected that he wished to he could use the Force to perform a census of all the crunchbugs living in the city of Vlarnya on the planet.[1] In 19 ABY, crunchbugs were served at a huge feast held by Popara Anjiliac Diresto in his penthouse on the planet Nal Hutta.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Crunchbugs were first mentioned in the 1998 novel I, Jedi written by Michael A. Stackpole and then again in the 2012 novel Scourge written by Jeff Grubb. Scourge is a novelized version of the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars Roleplaying Game adventure Tempest Feud, although the insects are not mentioned in the original RPG material.
