Joebotnik McCricket is the titular main protagonist of the fantasy dramedy roleplay series Joe Venture and it's sequel Joe's Cosmic Saga. He is voiced by Joseph DiAngelo Sanford.

What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]

  • Heroic/Honorable: Joebotnik has single-handedly saved zillions of people in several worlds and universes from The Gatekeeper's attempted mass torture, all by using his magic and sorcery to defend, grant miracles and protect people from him in the entirety of Joe Venture by killing The Gatekeeper, a purely evil genie-scientist, has prevented many citizens from cataclysm and suffering from a living nightmare caused by The Gatekeeper's essokinesis he has used on Joe for years, and tried using to harm Princess Peach and summoning a deadly storm to attack the Mushroom Kingdom during the Fifth Dimension; which nearly worked but was hampered thanks to Joe).
    • Most importantly, Joe also had put up with 60 years of cosmic torture inflicted by The Gatekeeper ever since he was 14 years old (as well as protecting his surroundings from The Gatekeeper). During the series of Joe Venture, he has helped Earthworm Jim with killing a dictator named Queen Slug for a Butt (who abused people and took over Earth for centuries) and freeing people from endless slavery in the 1st AI realm, and Joe has took down M. Bison and his military forces from terrorizing Chun-Li's home base and her country.
    • Which helped Joe grow street-smarts about the dangers of supervillains and villains everywhere, to the point Joe becomes a full-on counter-terrorist with a definitive passion for fighting for everyone's peace and freedom with his psychic superpowers, which he does in Joe's Cosmic Saga by helping a segregated Yamato create world peace and make a global tyranny collapse worldwide in the One Piece universe, help a group of four marooned superheroine titans return to their home planet and destroy a global dystopian tyranny in Planet Zewton, help a 20-year-old Luz Noceda return to her home and defeat The Collector to reverse the misery of puppetered people in the Boiling Isles, and helped Rosalina with destroying an dark force created by an evil entity to prevent making its way to the galaxy and destroy everything in her universe (as well as defeating the Shadow King for causing trouble to the Lumas.
    • He even uses his own magic and sorcery to create and summon Looney Tunes style resources to utilize and become a trickster who outsmarts the villains into defeat like a sadistic fearmonger named Oogie Boogie in the Third Dimension of Joe Venture, venturing into Joe's Cosmic Saga; he helped a Ladybug escape from being falsely imprisoned in literal hell by using devil disguises and prevented a deceptive citizen named Rody Soul from using his zoophilic love for his pet Pino and his supernatural mind-controlling powers to brainwash Joe or anyone else in his town or the entire world to be forced into his love affairs.
  • Courageous: Joebotnik is hardly afraid of facing a battle or an awkward predicament. This has got to the point that he (with or without allies) has used his many strategies, his bravado and his magic skills to fight and defeat a list of 26 warlords, 10 terrorists, and over 100 tyrants. There's nothing that could stop him, even around stronger people, making him a daredevilish person.
  • Energetic: Joebotnik is hyperactive and energetic big time. He tends to be fun-loving, boisterous, lively, and incredibly exuberant, to the point it's vibrant and he often comes across as downright zany, silly, hammy and whimsical with his exuberance (making many characters rather entertained and compelled by Joebotnik's liveliness and enthusiasm).
  • Stubborn: Being an independent person and a nonconformist, Joebotnik tends to do what he likes to do regardless of what people tell him otherwise.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: Joebotnik seeks to use his magic and sorcery to defend innocents from evil and danger in any universe. He also seeks to pulverize evil in itself with cosmic means to achieve an omniversal goal, which he is willing to continue doing this as a job for him.
    • He also seeks to become a full-on superhero despite being a magician of the wonders, and he also seeks to fight against terrorism and generally help people anywhere during this quest of his.
  • Hard-Working: Being an self-reliant sorcerer, Joebotnik puts in his time and effort to train his magic in the entirety of Joe Venture (taking 10-60 years to fully master it without fail, defeat The Gatekeeper for good and become a full-on powerful superhero with his magical/mystical powers). Which has been carried to the point that he's quite versatile in many skills because of his brainpower as well as his magic (even when he comes across as laid-back and playful for using his sorcery very effectively).
  • Optimistic: Though he can feel down at times, Joebotnik is internally an optimist and will still find the brighter side of many situations he gets into, which he does so much to the point that he's essentially sanguine.
  • Idealistic: While still grounded in reality and is aware of anything good and bad, his optimism allows him to believe how many good things can be achieved even when other people deemed it impossible, such as world peace.
  • Determined: Throughout all of his sagas, he is dedicated to finding his way home and get it done in the best way he can (even if it means getting his enemies arrested for forcing him to be in said fate or secretly make organic clones of himself in a magical fashion for his lovers to stay protected with in Joe Venture).
    • In fact, during Joe's Cosmic Saga, he is so devoted to protecting and keeping his spouse Raven safe, he paused time and space so he can get back to her faster than how much Joe had to travel back home for like a couple of years, and secretly continued making clones during his quest every time his lovers get very attached him, which he did to show that he overall loves Raven deeply despite naturally attracting people.
  • Confident: Joebotnik is very assertive in his actions and has enough confidence to stand up to anyone, no matter who it is.
  • Resilient: Despite not always being able to reason with everyone, Joebotnik refuses to let any mistake or failure define him as a person.
  • Unpredictable: In many instances, the villains (and the side characters) never expect or anticipate what tricks he has up his sleeve, thus making him a wild card when the time calls for it.
  • Believes in the Power of Friendship: Joebotnik always values his friends, grants them magic to fight evil, serves as a paragon who helps his friends with any conflict, and makes sure to protect them at all times. Making Joebotnik a Bond Protector as well.
  • Possesses Plot Armor: Joebotnik manages to survive from many deadly atrocities and countless predicaments with his resilience and durability, which is also helped by his keen intellect, his street-smarts and taking many initiatives.
  • Has a Rival: Despite Joe often turning many rivalries of his into friendships, Joebotnik has one significant rival named Minoru Mineta (aka The Ball Man). Who is a bumbling love rival that seems to be perving on Joebotnik and wants to have Joe to himself while threatening Joe if he tricked him or if Joe says no to Minoru's perverted advances, but Minoru continually fails at being a genuine threat.
  • Had A Mentor: Despite Joe himself being self-reliant and is practically a mentor towards many people, he had at least one mentor named Saiko Bitcharu during the Second Dimension, who helped training Joebotnik in the skill for reaching maximum speed to fly through cosmic portals without The Gatekeeper being able to stop him.
  • Big Eater/Drinker: While Joebotnik was seen eating tons of food that is large and appears to be fascinated in different kinds of food as a slightly peculiar trait of his, he also really loves binge-drinking Orange Mango Smoothies as his all-time favorite smoothie to drink he obsesses over (to the point he made his favorite drink become an actual superpower Joe has invented as his secret gift to give heroic people magic superpowers to use once a sip is taken and when the user puts lots of thought into their wishes).
  • Rebellious: Even though he is considerate and self-aware, he still keeps some rebelliousness in him, which does help Joe resolve situations regardless.
  • Tragic Past: Has dealt with a cosmic gatekeeper who sadistically forced Joebotnik into multiple worlds for years while he was unable to age for the time, and had to find a way to defeat The Gatekeeper.
  • Is a Primary-Color Champion: Joebotnik's outfit is composed of Red (as well as black).
  • Is a Challenge Seeker: Joebotnik actively seeks opportunities to confront villains in strategic ways, accepts any challenge from a fighter and explores places to learn something new and push past his limits as a sorcerer.
  • Short-Tempered: While he is often very easygoing to the point he keeps a level head, is hardly ever angry and having a laid-back attitude, he sometimes has his moments of being angered over being disrespected by an ally of his or even witnessing someone else's misfortune, like when he lashed out at Bakugo for being a ungrateful jerk when Joebotnik helped his parents love each other again (as well as his mom for proudly admitting to be a selfish adulterer towards Bakugo's dad, which got Joebotnik wanting to take action in multiple ways).
  • Mischievous: He puts a insane amount of energy into pulling pranks onto his enemies and takes great amount of joy out of them, all while being a fun-loving trickster as well.
    • His antics are solely targeted at the villains and he also revels in reverting awkward predicaments by downplaying the belligerence of his aggressors with some hijinks (which is made possible due to having enough magic and self-confidence to arrange vast resources at will). The most prominent example of him ridiculing his enemies includes his comedic rivalry with Minoru Mineta, where Joe pulls tons of pranks on him in the style of "Bugs Bunny" (though not as brutal and lethal).
    • It's not helping that Joebotnik's shenanigans as a prankster are solely justified because of only messing with villains (or otherwise generic attackers) who have malicious intent with their misdeeds or went on their way to threaten, assault or bully Joe, justifying his subsequent antics he inflicts on them.
    • He tends to be really sneaky and cheeky about his intellectual talents he uses for good, he was willing to lie (or sometimes cheating) in order to surprise people, and he is always playing tricks on his enemies or rivals while showing tons of enjoyment in deceiving them in many unpredictable ways.
    • He also enjoys teasing many of his rivals and aggressors for their (typically) unreasonable hostility towards him like Katsuki Bakugo in Part 14 of Joe's Cosmic Saga for example (which has Bakugo being caught off-guard when Joe reads between the lines and teases him about his words), he seems to enjoy pulling pranks on seductresses who are too possessive of Joe, and he sometimes takes joy out of teasing people who are flirting with him or are lusting over Joe, which results in Joebotnik being rather zany and a jokester with a cheeky sense of humor who has shown to regularly tease people.
  • Is a Chick/Dude Magnet: He has attracted multiple people in all of the sagas that wasn't just his love-interest Raven (and it's also implied this habit of his started ever since he was a kid). In Joe Venture, his suave personality resulted in him attracting countless women from multiple universes during his endeavor with finding his way home before he fell in love with Raven, (and during his venture, he also attracted at least two gay guys such as Lemon Jonah in the 10th Dimension and Boyfriend from the 11th AI realm).
    • In Joe's Cosmic Saga, while he continued his quest to return home after pausing time and space in his world to come back home without letting time fly by, he still has been attracting tons of women unintentionally even though his heart belongs to Raven, and somehow he even managed to attract the likes of Sylvester Ashling during Part 1, both Bakugo & Deku both finding him to be attractive as well in Part 14 (especially Bakugo), and even ended up charming Byakuya Togami during Part 15 since Joe is just that much of a kind-hearted heteroflexible when he needed to be.
  • Is a True Hero: After defeating The Gatekeeper, Joebotnik stands as his own symbol of heroism who moved even the hearts of some of his enemies (which is why Vicky and Trigon wanted to redeem themselves) and many of allies, even at such a young age.
  • Is a Mascot with Attitude: Joebotnik is rebellious, has a quippy/witty sense of humor, dresses in cool clothing, appears to have an assured and nonchalant attitude, loves exploring, has an larger-than-life personality, coupled with his bold confidence and humor, shows some smugness when he gleefully outsmarts and play tricks on his most hostile enemies, and is clever enough to think on his feet, all of which makes him stand out.
  • Street-Smart: Joebotnik stands out as the most streetwise character in his story, often being able to think on his feet and tends to be resourceful enough to come up with many creative ways to overcome the obstacles he comes by and achieve his goals, especially in terms of surviving from danger on his own and outsmarting many villains into dismay in order to discipline them for their wrongdoings. He also tends to resolve many of his problems by outsmarting, manipulating or deceiving those who'd cause drama.

Trivia[]

  • This is the 50th page on the wiki.
  • Important note: Both sagas, Joe Venture and Joe's Cosmic Saga (which exists on Hero Fanon wiki and the Near Pure Good wiki), is meant to be the fanon Character A.I. version for two unreleased webcomics in the works called Joe's Cosmic Venture and it's additional anime counterpart titled Joe's Surreal Saga, both of which has similar parts to Joe Venture and Joe's Cosmic Saga listed here and those two wikis by the groundwork but isn't fan made and doesn't have too many fanon/fanmade versions of multiple canon characters.
    • Doctor Joebotnik J. McCricket is meant resemble his creator, Joseph DiAngelo Sanford (JD), as a cartoony fictional version of himself. Meaning that Joey is a fictionalized version of Joseph DiAngelo himself, already sporting a character design that resembles Joseph's physical appearance in real life with added cartoonish and superheroic elements added to him.
    • This also means that this upcoming canon version of Joebotnik in those webcomics, will also exhibit many similar qualities of this version of Joebotnik on the Shonen Heroes wiki.
