Fallout 5

Fallout 5 is an upcoming title in the Fallout series, developed by Bethesda Game Studios. It will be the seventh major installment, after 2018's Fallout 76 (tenth overall).

Fallout 5 has not been announced publicly, but it is known that work has started on it. Todd Howard stated in a November 2021 interview that they have a one pager created, detailing what they'd like to include. He has also declined to comment on the potential involvement of other studios brought together under the Xbox Game Studios brand, such as Obsidian Entertainment, who previously helmed development on 2010's Fallout: New Vegas.^[1]

No details about the game's design are currently known save for that it will likely be single-player centric, as stated by Howard in an interview in Gamestar, as opposed to the multiplayer design used for Fallout 76.^[2]

In another interview, Howard confirmed that the BGS-developed Starfield was made using a new version of Creation Kit, called simply Creation Engine 2. The vast majority of their development work at that point was focused on Starfield, and the technology was built to support development on both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI, though he did not directly confirm that it would be used for Fallout 5.^[3]

In a June 2022 interview, Howard confirmed that Fallout 5 would be Bethesda's next project after The Elder Scrolls VI, which is itself in development after the release of Starfield in 2023.^[4][5]

In March 2024, it was stated that Howard advised the showrunners of the Fallout TV series to avoid depicting certain unspecified elements that were intended to appear in Fallout 5. Howard further elaborated that the story of Fallout 5 had already been finalized by the time the TV series began production.^[6]
