"Waste Makes Haste" is the twenty-sixth episode of the first season of Goof Troop.
Synopsis[]
Goofy and Pete start a recycling contest. Soon Pete finds out that a millionaire lost a valuable pair of shoes that are made out of solid gold so he tries to become partners with Goofy.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Goofy having a bowl of cereal for breakfast, when he and Waffle hear a noise in the garage. At first they think the noise is being made by mice, but it turns out to be Max and P.J. sorting garbage. Pete asks what is happening, and Goofy explains that they are recycling. Pete decides to join when he hears how recycling can give money, so he challenges Goofy to have a recycling contest. It gets out of hand when Pete rents a large truck and makes a huge pile of trash on the lawn, much to Peg's dismay.
Things get more out of hand when the Goofs and the Petes arrive at a rich neighborhood and try to collect the trash of a wealthy man named Mr. Farmsworth, who is too busy to notice as he is searching for his 24 karat gold baby booties, which unfortunately are revealed to have been thrown out, and they're in one of the trashcans that the guys were fighting over. Mr. Farnsworth threatens to give his servant a big pinch if he doesn't get them back.
Meanwhile, Goofy and Pete have started a trash war, causing an avalanche on both sides. Peg tells Pete that he has until 6 in the morning tomorrow to throw the trash out, or he'll be in big trouble. Later as he starts counting the bottles, which he had to recount due to Pistol's interference, Mr. Farnsworth's butler arrives and begs for the 24 karat gold baby booties, but Pete claims they are his now, only to learn that there's a reward for them. Pete searches through his trash pile, only to learn that the gold booties are in Goofy's pile, so now he has to figure out a way to get them without him knowing and splitting the reward.
The next day, Pete sends P.J. to apologize to Goofy for acting this way and tries to give him some of his trash in exchange for the gold booties. Unfortunately, Peg arrives to see that Pete still hasn't taken out the trash, and reminds him to get rid of the trash, which results in the guys driving with numerous trailers and a boat to carry the trash to get it recycled, with Pete still looking for the gold booties. At the docks, he contacts Mr. Farnsworth's butler, as he is waiting for him to return the booties before his boss prepares to pinch him.
After loading all of the trash on a carrier, Pete allows Goofy to drive the ship while he continues searching for the gold booties, but when P.J. and Max notice a storm coming, Pete ignores it as they set sail while Pete is still looking for the booties. However, the on-coming storm causes the boat to lose balance. Pete tells Goofy to "Head to shore", which Max and P.J. misinterpret as "Give it More!", so Goofy gives it more power and sails further away from land. While trying to gain control of the ship, Goofy attempts to save Pete while giving the wheel to Max and P.J. Suddenly, a tsunami hits, resulting in the boat sinking, but Goofy and Pete manage to rescue their sons, but not before Pete grabs a piece of the trash, not wanting to lose the golden booties.
After surviving the storm, Pete continues his search for the booties as Goofy and the others make a homemade sail. As a box of trash sails adrift, Goofy tries to lasso it, only to be caught by a periscope of a sub. Max manages to save his dad, but this causes everyone to be dragged by the sub. After Goofy lets go and goes back to the carrier, it starts to sink, and even after they try to plug the holes, Max suggests they abandon the carrier, with Pete wanting to save the trash (and the golden booties). This leads to Goofy believing that Pete has come hysterical, only for Pete to rip Goofy's shirt off, revealing that he had the 24 karat gold baby booties around his neck the entire time. Goofy then gives the golden booties to Pete. After plugging the holes and making a home-made pedal with a bike, the guys head to the recycling center, where they learn about the 24 karat gold baby booties and the reward, and Pete reluctantly agrees to split the reward.
Now back in their neighborhood, Goofy, Max, P.J. and Pete are excited, because not only did they make enough money from the recycling, but they also got the reward for returning Farnsworth's 24 karat gold baby booties (and saving his butler from getting pinched). Unfortunately, their happiness turns out to be short-lived as an unhappy Peg reveals to Pete and the others that a a few bills came in the form of truck rental, trailer rentals, traffic tickets and the destruction of Pete's boat, meaning that Pete and the others are now broke again.
Just then Pete notices a can on the ground, giving him, Goofy and the boys the idea to start recycling again to make money.
