"Tarzan and the Enemy Within" is the ninth episode of The Legend of Tarzan. It originally aired on UPN on September 12, 2001.

Synopsis[]

Tarzan and Terk find an injured gorilla named Gobu in the forest, who was attacked by hyenas. Little do they know, but he is under orders from his leader to lure Tarzan back to Gobu's family. Once the injured gorilla is better, he and Tarzan embark on the long journey to Gobu's home, only to find the evil Tublat, a bull ape who was expelled from Kerchak's family many years before and has killed the group's original leader, is waiting there to trap him. Meanwhile, Jane and Professor Porter attempt to teach Terk to be more lady-like to impress Gobu, though Gobu seems to prefer Terk as her tough tomboyish self.

Cast[]

Trivia[]

  • The two female gorillas from Tarzan's gorilla tribe that welcome Gobu to the tribe upon meeting him in named Munka (brown fur, green eyes) and Teeka (dark grey fur, blue eyes).
    • Teeka is a one-off character who only appeared in the short story "Tarzan's First Love" from the Tarzan novel Jungle Tales of Tarzan by Edgar Rice Burroughs, which is a midquel took place in Chapter 11 of the Tarzan novel Tarzan of the Apes. In that short story, Teeka the female ape served as Tarzan's first love interest prior to meeting Jane Porter during his teenage years which their romantic relationship didn't worked out when the female ape prefers the male ape Taug, their mutual friend, over Tarzan, causing both Tarzan and Taug to fight for Teeka's romantic affections. The character also served as a loose inspiration for Disney's version of Terk.
      • Co-incidentally, this episode featured a somewhat similar love triangle subplot between the gorillas as in that short story, albeit with the male and female roles reversed, with Terk (whom is female in this version) fighting the two female gorillas Munka and Teeka over Gobu's romantic affections, instead of the other way round.
  • The identity of the original leader of Gobu's gorilla tribe before it's death from the hands of Tublat is unknown in this episode, as not only is it never seen onscreen, yet its name is never revealed.
  • When Terk assumes a more feminine persona in order to impress Gobu, neither Flynt nor Mungo recognize Terk, and instead mistake her for another female gorilla from the tribe. This could be either due to Flynt and Mungo being the complete idiots they are, or both of them having used to Terk being a tough tomboy for years since childhood.
