The Shadow Pianist is a character from the original Haunted Mansion attraction at the Disney Parks.
History[]
Background[]
The Shadow Pianist is a ghost whose shadow is only visibly seen. This pianist is proficient in playing the piano, even in death and is one of the ghosts featured in the attraction. Not much of this ghost's personality is known, other than having a hobby of playing piano.
Development history[]
Concept art for the original Haunted Mansion attraction often featured shadows of figures playing pianos or organs, which served as a possible inspiration in creating the Shadow Pianist for the attraction.
Appearances[]
The Haunted Mansion[]
Disneyland[]
In the California version of the attraction, the Shadow Pianist is encountered in the attic area where the figure plays an ominous version of the "Here Comes the Bride" theme just as the guests pass by Constance Hatchaway wearing a bride dress just as the guests avoid the Bride as they escape into the graveyard.
Magic Kingdom/Tokyo Disneyland[]
In the Florida and Tokyo versions, there is a music room where a shadow of a mysterious figure plays the piano projected on the wooden floor which is encountered after the library scene depicting a group of marbled busts in the area. The next room after the piano scene is the endless staircase scene (a pitch black room full of spiders in the Tokyo version).
Trivia[]
- In the Phantom Manor attraction, the Shadow Pianist appears to be inferred to as the spirit of The Phantom (aka Henry Ravenswood).
