Haunted Mansion is the soundtrack to the 2023 supernatural horror comedy film of the same name, directed by Justin Simien and based on the Disney theme park attraction of the same name. The album features the original score composed by Kris Bowers, as well as one song performed by The Soul Rebels. It was released digitally by Walt Disney Records on July 26, 2023, two days before the film's theatrical release.
Background and production[]
In February 2022, it was announced that Kris Bowers, who had previously collaborated with Simien on the Netflix series Dear White People, would compose the score for Haunted Mansion. Simien praised Bowers' work, saying that he "turned those simple phrases into one of the most lush, exciting movie scores I've heard." Simien also revealed that Bowers incorporated several variations of the "Grim Grinning Ghosts" theme, written by Buddy Baker and Xavier Atencio for the original attraction, into his score. The soundtrack also includes a song titled "His Soul Left Gloss on the Rose", performed by the New Orleans-based brass ensemble The Soul Rebels. The song plays during the opening scene of the film, which depicts a Mardi Gras parade in 1926.
