Flotsam and Jetsam are the secondary antagonists of the 2023 live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
They are based on the characters of the same name from the 1989 animated film.
Role in the film[]
Flotsam and Jetsam are first seen lurking under a coral where the two spy on Ariel swimming, which the scene loops into the scene where Ursula is introduced just as Ursula tells them to watch over Ariel where the eels follow Ursula's task. After King Triton destroyed Ariel's treasures in a fit of rage, because Triton fears that humans are a threat to merpeople like Ariel, Flotsam and Jetsam approach Ariel where they form an image of Ursula who tells Ariel if she has the opportunity to meet her so that she can change her fate, much to Sebastian and Flounder's worry just as Ariel follows Flotsam and Jetsam into Ursula's lair where they meet Ariel in Ursula's home. Later as Flotsam and Jetsam made sure that Ursula wins the deal, the two eels then sabotaged what would have been true love's kiss between Eric and Ariel.
During the climax of the film, Flotsam and Jetsam take part during the final battle attempting to kill Ariel with electricity they are generating. However, Eric strikes back tossing a harpoon into Ursula who then orders Flotsam and Jetsam to kill him. Ursula then uses the power of the trident to fire a powerful blast at Eric, but Ariel counters her, causing her to fire her blast at Flotsam and Jetsam, destroying them into bits, much to Ursula's sadness as she then takes revenge against Ariel and Eric.
