American Born Chinese is an American streaming television series, created by Kelvin Yu and Charles Yu. It is based on the graphic novel of the same name. It was released on Disney+ on May 24, 2023.
Starting June 2, 2023, and for a limited time, the series was made available on YouTube, Hulu, and Roku, and aired on ABC.[1]
Synopsis[]
Based on the graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang, American Born Chinese is a genre-hopping action comedy that tells the story of Jin Wang, an average teenager juggling his high school social life with his home life. When he meets a new foreign student on the first day of the school year, even more worlds collide as Jin is unwittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.

Production[]
On October 4, 2021, Deadline reported that a brand new series based on the graphic novel American Born Chinese was in active development on Disney+.[2][3]
On February 7, 2022, Deadline also reported the series cast and that production is slated to begin in February in Los Angeles.[4]
Filming officially begun on February 8, and officially wrapped on July 6.[5][6]
On January 5, 2024, Deadline reported that the series had officially been cancelled.[7]
