"Fonsett's school finally opened its doors. Then, all of a sudden, you were asked to teach a class of your own! Teaching sure is hard work."

Dialogue[edit]

Willas
Well, this is a bit of a pickle.
Willas
Well, there's a bit of a problem with the village's children, you see...
Willas
It's just that...well, as I'm sure you know, the Praetorium of Indol was destroyed in that great conflict.
And thanks to that, our Mark can't go to the Indoline Academy any more.
We don't have anywhere to send the children for a good education...
Willas
So I was thinking!
Maybe we could fix up this building that nobody's using right now...
Round up some good teachers from all around Alrest...
And start a brand-new school right here in Fonsett!
Willas
Oh! Well, I'm happy to hear it.
First thing we've got to do is get the school building in workable shape.
It's falling apart here and there after years of disuse, you see.
Willas
You'll find a carpenter out back, name of Mason.
He's working out what needs to be done. Could you lend him a hand?
Willas
Let's make this village a place where children can be proud to grow up!

See what Mason the carpenter has to say[edit]

Mason
Eyup, pal! I'm racking my brains a bit here.
The building's not in the worst of shape, all things considered...
But if there's gonna be kids using it day in, day out, it could probably do with being a bit more sturdy.
I dunno where we'd get our hands on the materials for that, though...
Party member: Help 1
Mason
Really?! You guys are the best!
Can I ask you to gather a few things right away, then? You can give them to the kids over there.
Mark needs some wood, Kazuna needs decorations, and Kirk needs some ore.
They all offered to lend me a hand. Said they wanted to help build their own new school - isn't that grand?
When I see passion like that, it makes me want to do the best job I can do!

Collect wood from various places and deliver it to Mark[edit]

Mark
Did you bring some wood? I'll take whatever you've got!
Not enough wood was given.
Mark
I still need more wood so keep it coming!
Enough wood was given.
Mark
Nice, that should be all the wood I need! Thanks!

Collect ore from various places and deliver it to Kirk[edit]

Kirk
I just need ore. Doesn't matter what type, apparently. Have you got any?
Not enough ore was given.
Kirk
Mmm...I don't think I've got as much as Mason wanted yet. D'you think this school will ever really be ready?
Enough ore was given.
Kirk
I think that should be enough, from what Mason said. Thanks!

Collect decorations from various places and deliver them to Kazuna[edit]

Kazuna
I'm doing the decorating! I need fabrics, musical instruments, artworks and books, that kind of stuff!
Did you bring anything I could use to decorate?
Not enough decorations were given.
Kazuna
I'm gonna keep adding decorations until the whole school looks beautiful! So keep bringing me stuff, OK?
Enough decorations were given.
Kazuna
I think that should do it! Thanks!

Report back to Mason[edit]

Mason
You gathered all the stuff? Fantastic!
Then let's get straight to work!
Mason
Erm...
Mason
Well, actually, I can't start working right away just like that.
Why don't you go help the mayor with something else while I get everything sorted here?

Speak to Willas[edit]

Willas
So it looks like the building repairs should go just fine? Excellent! On to the next phase!
We need to gather great teachers from across Alrest!
Language! From basic literacy through to detailed literary analysis and composition...
Our children must be raised to enjoy rich communication with others!
Sciences! From the workings of everyday objects to the calculations used in business...
Our children should master all kinds of knowledge to widen their horizons!
History! None of us would be here today were it not for the efforts of our ancestors.
By learning of the triumphs and failures of the past, our children will gain the wisdom to forge a brighter future!
Willas
I'm sorry to foist this all on you, but I'd like you to use your judgment to find the most suitable candidates.
You've traveled many more places and met many more people than me. If anyone can find us teachers, it's you.

Report back to Willas[edit]

Willas
Fantastic!
So, where are these teachers you've found?
Willas
Ah... They're all still making preparations to travel here?
Oh dear... I may have been a little hasty in my assumptions.
Willas
Well, when I heard you'd arrived, I thought you must have brought the new teachers with you, you see.
So I already gathered the children together so we could have ourselves an inaugural lesson.
Now I feel a little silly...
Hey, I had a brainwave! Perhaps our very own Mr. Rex can give the kids a little practice lesson!
He's the biggest success story this village has produced, after all!
Willas
I'll call the kids over, then!

Talk to Mark[edit]

Mark
Ding-dong! Mr. Rex! I've got a question!
I found a piece of rock near the Village Guardian the other day with this weird old writing on it!
Can you read this squiggly stuff?
Lesson With Rex fails.
Rex
Squiggly writing, huh... That might be a bit tricky.
Mark
Oh, really? I'll try asking the history teacher when they get here, then!
Rex
You're a hard worker, Mark, so you could probably learn to read it yourself if you tried.
Lesson With Rex activates.
Rex
Of course! I'm pretty good at reading ancient writing.
Mark
Wow, Mr. Rex! You're amazing! D'you think I could learn to read this stuff too someday?
Rex
You're a really hard worker, Mark, so I bet you could learn to read it if you tried.
Mark
All right! I'll study hard to see if I can read what's on that stone!
Rex
Right, next up is Kazuna's question.

Talk to Kazuna[edit]

Kazuna
Ding-dong ding-dong! Hey, Mr. Rex!
So the other day, we all tried to go down to the beach...
But there was a big rock washed up in the way, and we couldn't get past!
All three of us tried pushing it together, but it didn't move an inch!
In the end, Mason and some other villagers helped us get it out of the way.
But would you be able to move a big rock like that all on your own?
Lesson With Rex fails.
Rex
It would probably be easier to break it than move it, but a rock that big might be tough...
Kazuna
Oh, I see... I guess even you'd have to ask Mason for help, huh?
Lesson With Rex activates.
Rex
Of course! I can break through all kinds of rocks, no problem.
Kazuna
Wowwww! You'd smash them right up?! I'd love to try that!
Rex
Don't go trying anything dangerous, now. Corinne'll be really mad if you get yourself hurt.
Kazuna
OK! I'll be careful not to get hurt!
Rex
Is that all you wanted to ask, Kazuna? I guess Kirk's next up, then.

Talk to Kirk[edit]

Kirk
Bzzzzzt! A question for Mr. Rex!
Can you find all kinds of cool treasure in the Cloud Sea really easily?!
Lesson With Rex fails.
Rex
Well, it wouldn't be that easy. I'd probably have to salvage quite a lot of times to find the really good stuff.
Kirk
Oh, I see. I always thought you just dive in and bring up amazing treasure every time!
I've never seen you actually salvaging! You should show me sometime!
Lesson With Rex activates.
Rex
I sure can! I've salvaged so much, I could probably find treasure with my eyes closed at this point.
Kirk
Wow! I wanna see you salvaging sometime, Mr. Rex!
Rex
Right, I think that wraps it up for everyone's questions. I guess I'll give you a salvaging demonstration now!
Kazuna
Hey Mr. Rex! I got another question!
Which girl are you sweet on?
Rex
Wha-?!
Kirk
Ooh, I wanna know too! Are you going out with someone?
Mark
Me too, me too! I heard Corinne worrying about whether you'd get married!
Kirk
Ooh, are you getting married, Mr. Rex?! When? When?
Kazuna
Yaaaaay! A wedding! Congrats, Mr. Rex!
Mark
Congratulations, Mr. Rex!
Rex
H-hold on, all of you! You're getting way ahead of yourselves!
Rex
A-anyway, we're going to do a salvaging demonstration!
Everyone come with me to Messet Point!
Kazuna
Ahaha! Mr. Rex's face is bright red!
Kirk
He's still such a kid...
Mark
He's innocent, that's all!
Rex
Urgh...
Rex
They'll have to respect me when they see my salvaging skills in action!

Head toward the Salvage Point at Messet Point[edit]

Rex
All right, now I'm going to show you all how a pro salvager works, so pay close attention!
You all don't have any salvaging gear yet, so we can't let you try it out for yourselves today...
But watching how it's done will prepare you for when you do start salvaging for yourselves!
Mark
I've never seen a real salvager at work before!
Kazuna
Aren't those air cylinder things heavy? Won't you just sink?
Kirk
Bring us back lots of treasure, Mr. Rex!
Rex
Sure thing! Leave it to me!

Salvage at Messet Point[edit]

Rex brought an Aspid back with him.
Kazuna
Aaaahhhh!
Mark
It's a monster!
Kirk
Is this the treasure?
Rex
Watch out, it's going to attack!

Defeat the Quietus Aspid[edit]

Rex
Well, um...
Mark
That...was definitely a monster.
Kazuna
Not treasure.
Kirk
It was scary...
Rex
So...as you just saw, sometimes salvagers can haul up monsters instead of treasure!
Everyone make sure you're fully prepared and equipped with weapons when you salvage for yourselves!
Mark
OK, Mr. Rex!
Mark
Did he mess up...?
Kirk
Yes, Mr. Rex!
Kirk
He totally messed up...
Kazuna
I'll remember that!
Kazuna
Mr. Rex messed up...
Rex
Urkk...
W...well, that's the end of my lesson! Next time, there should be brand new teachers here to instruct you!
Make sure to be nice to them. No being rude or playing tricks, OK?
All right, class dismissed!
The scene fades to black for a moment. When it fades in again, the kids have gone back.
Rex
Did I just make a proper fool of myself...?

Report back to Willas again[edit]

Willas
So you're all done with the practice lesson, eh?
Perfect timing. Those teachers of yours just showed up, as well.
Now let's see...
Any combination of teachers other than Mesulia, Quiqui and Tortor (route A):
Willas
It looks like you've gathered a fine selection of teachers to stimulate the village children's minds!
Thank you for all your efforts. You've done a service to the children and to this whole village!
Willas
It can't have been an easy task. You've earned this reward.
The teachers are Mesulia, Quiqui and Tortor (route B):
Willas
They certainly see an...interesting bunch, but I'm sure they'll do just fine.
Thank you for all your efforts. You've done a service to the children and to this whole village!
Party member: Modest
Willas
It's not much, but please take this as thanks.
