Wikipedia:WikiProject Devon/Assessment

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is updated every 3 days by WP 1.0 bot

Welcome to the assessment department of the Devon WikiProject! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's articles related to Devon. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 programme, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WPDevon}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Devon articles by quality and Category:Devon articles by importance.

Frequently asked questions

[edit]
How can I get my article rated?
Please list it in the section for assessment requests below.
Who can assess articles?
Any member of the Devon WikiProject is free to add or change the rating of an article.
Why didn't the reviewer leave any comments?
Unfortunately, due to the volume of articles that need to be assessed, we are unable to leave detailed comments in most cases. If you have particular questions, you might ask the person who assessed the article; they will usually be happy to provide you with their reasoning.
What if I don't agree with a rating?
You can list it in the section for assessment requests below, and someone will take a look at it. Alternately, you can ask any member of the project to rate the article again.
Aren't the ratings subjective?
Yes, they are, but it's the best system we've been able to devise; if you have a better idea, please don't hesitate to let us know!

If you have any other questions not listed here, please feel free to ask them on the discussion page for this department.

Quality assessments

[edit]

An article's quality assessment is generated from the class parameter in the {{WikiProject Banner Shell}}. Articles that have the {{WPDevon}} project banner on their talk page will be added to the appropriate categories by quality.

The following values may be used for the class parameter to describe the quality of the article (see Wikipedia:Content assessment for assessment criteria):

FA (for featured articles only; adds articles to Category:FA-Class Devon articles)  FA
A (adds articles to Category:A-Class Devon articles)  A
GA (for good articles only; adds articles to Category:GA-Class Devon articles)  GA
B (adds articles to Category:B-Class Devon articles) B
C (adds articles to Category:C-Class Devon articles) C
Start (adds articles to Category:Start-Class Devon articles) Start
Stub (adds articles to Category:Stub-Class Devon articles) Stub
FL (for featured lists only; adds articles to Category:FL-Class Devon articles)  FL
List (adds articles to Category:List-Class Devon articles) List

For non-standard grades and non-mainspace content, the following values may be used for the class parameter:

Category (for categories; adds pages to Category:Category-Class Devon articles) Category
Disambig (for disambiguation pages; adds pages to Category:Disambig-Class Devon articles) Disambig
Draft (for drafts; adds pages to Category:Draft-Class Devon articles) Draft
File (for files and timed text; adds pages to Category:File-Class Devon articles) File
Portal (for portal pages; adds pages to Category:Portal-Class Devon articles) Portal
Project (for project pages; adds pages to Category:Project-Class Devon articles) Project
Template (for templates and modules; adds pages to Category:Template-Class Devon articles) Template
NA (for any other pages where assessment is unnecessary; adds pages to Category:NA-Class Devon articles) NA
??? (articles for which a valid class has not yet been provided are listed in Category:Unassessed Devon articles) ???

After assessing an article's quality, any comments on the assessment can be added to the article's talk page.

Some articles that are stubs will have the following template located at the bottom of the page: {{Devon-geo-stub}} by inserting {{Devon-geo-stub}}. Doing so will automatically add the article to the Category:Devon geography stubs. If you see a stub from the WikiProject Devon it is advised that you add the template to it, but make sure that it is removed for articles that are Start or above class.

Listed below are some of our finest articles, which are great examples of how to improve your article! If you're writing about a settlement there's a guideline page, especially written for you as part of our parent WikiProject, UK Geography. See How to write about a settlement. For articles to reach good article atatus they must go through a peer review by one of the GA reviewers. They will assess it on the quality of its prose and references mainly. Unlike featured article status, you don't need to cover all the areas in detail. For more information see: Wikipedia:Good article criteria and Wikipedia:Featured article criteria.
