Fantastic! I really needed to read something this good after the disappointing "Prince of Tides". Liv & Kolya are a great team and their adventures around St. Pertersburg during WWII make for a great read. Benioff knows how to tell a story. I'm happy Liv gets the girl. 5 stars.
I liked the characters in this book right from the early chapters. I was rooting for the good guys...Michel the spy black hat, Mad Ben Styke, and Lady Vlora the powdermage. The supporting characters made the story even more compelling...Salene, Fidelis, Vallencian, and Tampo/Two-Shot. There will be more battles in Landfall. Who's Mama Palo? Will the God Stones work?
Excellent fantasy! 4.75 stars

This is an awesome series. Can't wait to read the next one. What will happen to sweet mad Ben Styke and Celine. How powerful is Carpole. Michel is a great character too...and he doesn't even have any socery! These books make me happy.
Great book! It was slow at first but the 2nd half made up for it. Corey is the Forest Gump of Zephyr. It has a Stephen King The Stand vibe in a way...southern, race, good and evil with a fantasy edge.

Probably 4.5...I really enjoyed this book up until the end. I kinda got a bit lost which is too bad because the individual "stories" were fantastic.
The priests, Dure & Hoyt and the Bikura people that crashed on Hyperion a longtime ago and infected with the cruciform. Dure's battle to escape and his ultimate failure is quite a story.
As is The Matian, Colonel Kassad and his spy lover Moneta that meet in his sim battles.
Next is the drinker and poet Silenus and his lifelong journey to write the Hyperion Cantos - past or future?
Sol and his daughter Rachel's story and her aging backwards is my favorite I think.
Brawne, Johnny, and the Consul's story of his grandparents wrap it up and they head to the tombs and the Shrike - what's next?

I couldn't wait to finish this book. I almost stopped reading several times. I hoped it would get better. I remember parts of the movie so I knew some of the story and really hoped I'd get into it. It does get better near the end. Sorry, but the endless droning about every little detail was bad. And Tom's endless rants tiresome. Savannah might be the most interesting character in the whole book but she's not around much. It's really too bad, as I've been on a "books made into mini series" reading list.
(in this case a movie). I read Lonesome Dove before this and it's fantastic.

I'll miss the Fraser clan...Ian especially lol
“Thy life's journey lies along its own path, Ian,” she said, “and I cannot share thy journey—but I can walk beside thee."
“But what I do say is that there is nothing in this world or the next that can take ye from me—or me from you.”
“You alone, hold all my heart, whole in your hands. And you know that.”

FIVE STARS...Brilliant
I put off reading this for a longtime as I'm not into westerns per se.
I laughed alot while reading this book and smiled even more.
But I loved this book. It flowed so nicely. There's something so uniquely satisfying about McMurty's writing in this novel. His characters are simple & complicated at the same time.
Gus is the star of course. But I liked them all except for Jake and the badguys lol....Caul, Lori, Pea, Newt, Deets, July - although his was a bit weak, Rosco, and Clara are wonderful characters.
“Oh, I had a job waitin' tables once. S' on a riverboat. I wasn't no older than Newt, there, but I hadda give it up…I was, too young and pretty and the whores wouldn't let me alone.” Gus
“A man who wouldn't cheat for a poke don't want one bad enough.” Gus
“My main skills are talking and cooking biscuits…And getting drunk on the porch.” Gus

At this point I have to admit this series is very good. This book is not necessarily better than the others but the story has kept me very much intrigued. I looked forward to reading it everyday and as such give it a 4.5. I really don’t know what I’ll do when I’ve finished these books. I can’t wait to see what Jenny does.
Calamity! This was my 1st superhero book. If you like the Avengers you'll enjoy this. I liked it. It was an easy refreshing read. The writing was o.k. but to be expected in this genre probably. David got Steel heart in the end which is the only way this book could end and I'm happy about that. I know Meghan will be back.
3.5 stars.
Gave it a 4 because it's not my usual read and I enjoyed it.

Again no writing awards for this one but I like 90 yr old dad and Jane and Zoey and the Oben. I don't like all the he said she said jane said zoey said I said etc...i'd say 3.75
Pretty good 3.5. Miles is nice but not a very believable hero. A bit young to be a real leader.
Great cast...Holden plus Avasarala (awesome) and Bobbie. Even better than the 1st one. 4.25 stars
Amazing...I loved all the characters. Just a great read. No dramatic deaths or wreckless plot twists. A story of a truly American family wrapped around the history of World War II.
Good....I like Anna but the Miller thing is a bit odd. I like the female villain. Clarissa, even sounds mean lol. I'm glad I read it but I wasn't blown away.
3.75

i really enjoyed this space opera. Although I felt a little lost sometimes. The ending was a bit of a let down too. He didn't look for his mate as soon as he could? Kinda of odd. Then the book ends before the reunion. Still 3.75 stars - I've never read a book in this setting before.
I liked this book for the most part but it was too long and too historical if you know what I mean. This book was recommended here after I read The Winds of War and War and Remembrance. But those books were amazing and this one wasn't.
Not quite a 4 but close. The last 1/4 of the book saved it for me. I almost gave up in the middle and I skimmed alot of pages. Too wordy but good story. I also think killing off the 1st 3 characters made it hard to build a relationship with the rest.

When the story comes together it really works. Mulva was a bit overdone and Tom Christy falling for Claire even more far fetched than the dude whistling yellow submarine in 1775 ;) Fun though...
My fav of the series. I loved how the 3 female characters were developed and how the story came together. Hoa is such a little unknown treasure of the book.
Jemisin creates a fantastic new world. The orogene have long suffered but are the strength of the planet.
“We aren't human."
"Yes. We. Are." His voice turns fierce. "I don't give a shit what the something-somethingth council of big important farts decreed, or how the geomests classify things, or any of that. That we're not human is just the lie they tell themselves so they don't have to feel bad about how they treat us.”
The characters in this book are so vital. Even Schaffa and Jija reveal soo much of the whole story.
“This is why she hates Alabaster: not because he is more powerful, not even because he is crazy, but because he refuses to allow her any of the polite fictions and unspoken truths that have kept her comfortable, and safe, for years.”

I can't stop reading these books lol. I think this one is my favorite soo far. 4.75 stars. Brianna finds them...
“An Englishman thinks a hundred miles is a long way; and American thinks a hundred years is a long time”
“I hated him for as long as I could. But then I realized that loving him...that was a part of me, and one of the best parts. It didn't matter that he couldn't love me, that had nothing to do with it. But if I couldn't forgive him, then I could not love him, and that part of me was gone. And I found eventually that I wanted it back."
({Lord John, Drums of Autumn}”
“He blinked , and his eyes moved at last from her face, slowly taking in her appearance, and- with what seemed to her a new and horrified awareness- her height.
"My God," he croaked. "You're huge.”
“But a man is not forgotten, as long as there are two people left under the sky. One, to tell the story; the other, to hear it. So.”

Probably 3.75. Not as good as Drums of Autumn. A bit drawn out but ended well.
Outstanding...I loved the characters and Martin weaves a fantastic story. The brave Northerners against the wicked Lannisters? The children; Jon, Robb, Sanza, Arya, and Bran...what will happen to them? Revenge for the Ned and the King. I hope Sanza poisons the boy King. Lol soo much fun. Of course let's not forget about the wolves and dragons... Brilliant!
Very good...loved the voyages of Jamie and Claire's lives apart and of course their reunion! Better than book 1.
4 Stars!
Better than the 1st book! Much of this book is set in Paris which is my favorite city!
Claire's adventures continue...she hangs out at Versailles and even sleeps with the King of France lol. While others fall victim to rape she does not. She also consorts with the English - Jack Randall to spy for the Scots.
As for Jamie...he lives, I think.

I give this book a 3.75. Book 2 is better.
I wasn't sure about this book...I didn't realize it was more a love story than an adventure story. So I was a bit disappointed in the 1st half of the book. However, the 2nd part was much better although somewhat sad. The ending was good and I'm already reading the next book, of course.
Claire is a super hero for sure! She has an encounter with the Loch ness monster, she kills a wolf with her bear hands, and is almost burned at the stake for being a witch.
Jamie is a strong beautiful soul.
“You're tearin' my guts out, Claire.”
“I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have.”
“Ye werena the first lass I kissed," he said softly. "But I swear you'll be the last.”

I wasn't sure I liked Cassie in the beginning. Kids against aliens...really? But the story works somehow. Her, Evan, Ben, Ringer, and Sammy will kick their asses!
