La primerísima colaboración de Neil Gaiman y Dave Mckean. Hecha a mano, en una época en la que aún no se inventaba el photoshop. Y poniéndo envergüenza a la mayoría de las producciones digitales de ahora. Buena historia, y genial arte.

A true work of art. Like few other works, it shows how childhood can be a magical and wondrous place, and at the same time a very dark and scary one. Visually and aesthetically it's unparalleled, and the story and storytelling are quite good.

The stories are simple, but beautiful and deeply sad. It's the artwork what makes this worth it, though. No computers or screens or any artifice involved here. Just plain ink and brush, and the artist's own masterful hand.

As with many long series, this starts spectacularly and then bogs down a little, storywise. I specially had a problem trying to sympathize with the male character, right til just before the very end. .Good ending, though; and it's good to see women looking like REAL women. (This is about the whole series)

La narrativa es buena -aunque hay gente que nno les gusta el estilo de William Gibson. La historia está dos tres -la resolución se me hizo floja. El personaje principal me pareció la mujer más aburrida del planeta Tierra; al contrario que varios de los personajes secundarios, que están muy bien hechos. Pudo haber estado mucho mejor.

A pity. Jack Vance is usually so much better... Three stories following more or less the same pattern, with kind of similar resolutions at the end. The context really lent itself to so much more, but the end result turned out somewhat banal and trivial. "The Dying Earth" stories are infinitelly better...

Prometía ser mejor de lo que resultó ser.Hay una razón por la cual dejé de leer historias de superhéroes hace años. Historias predecibles, dibujos predecibles, personajes acartonados, ramificaciones que tienden hacia lo infinito (por cuestiones mercantiles) pero que no le aportan ninguna profundidad a la historia... En resúmen, lo que todo eso hace es que las historias sean sumamente aburridas.

De los primeros cuatro libros del Capitán Alatriste que he leído, éste es sin duda el mejor, seguido muy de cerca por El Oro del Rey. La prosa de Pérez Reverte por fin fluye, y la historia y su desenlace se sienten menos forzados y mas naturales.

Art is OK, story's OK, but the storytelling is quite terrible! Very confusing at times, and the fact that the characters keep changing appearance (hair color and such) is kind of annoying.

Although it's the first book in the series, it's not the first one written, and it shows. In my opinion, the earlier stories were the more original of the lot (which I'm currently reading, collected in the 'Stormbringer' volume). This one reads more like the outline of a story, with some very good ideas, but not a lot of development of them.

This is very probably the best comic strip in history, in any language.

This one came this close to being a masterpiece.

It promised much more, but at the end it turned out to be as biased and monochromatic as many other spy stories out there -not to mention dated. The fact that world events and reality have overtaken it doesn't help much, either (even James Bond has of late shown more depth of story and character than this). A disappointment.

For any kind of story, it's always an accomplishment when they manage to tap into and to some extent mirror the reader's actual lives. This one did, pleasantly so even if it wasn't a happy story. And unlike the four previous Cerebus books, the story was quite coherent and self contained, which made it easier to read. The best one so far.

Muy bueno. Brutal y sangriento -como una historia de Conan debe ser-, pero muy bien escrito y dibujado. Y sutil y melancolico a la vez, aunque usted no lo crea.. De lo mejor de Conan hasta ahora.

So-so story (confusing! Somebody should tell Shirow Masamune to go easy on the footnotes), but stunning artwork.

Muy bueno a momentos, pero a veces cansa un poco -hay partes narradas por distintos personajes, escritas con estilos diferentes; algunos muy interesantes, pero otros algo tediosos. El concepto en si es bueno e interesante. Merecería un puntaje más alto, pero la novela queda inconclusa! El final parece que se encuentra en la segunda parte: La Caída de Hyperión. Habrá que leerla y evaluar la historia completa.

Impresionante, y mucho mejor que el anterior. Aquí el autor no experimenta tanto con el estilo (no rinde "homenaje" tan obviamente a otros autores), y la historia se mueve mucho mas, en muchas direcciones a la vez, y con varias sorpresas inesperadas. La resolución podría haber estado mejor, pero no está nada mal de todos modos. Muy bueno.

Not bad at all. Artwork is OK, but the story and storytelling are great. And it does leave you wanting to imerse yourself deeper into that world and try to find out more.

Short stories from a master artist and storyteller, drwn from different periods in his career. The stories themselves were a bit uneven, however.

This changed my whole perception of sequential art, storytelling and modern fantasy. The story as a whole (all the books) is a masterpiece.

Hay literatura fantástica, y luego está esta obra. Leído en español, en una traducción muy, pero muy, buena.

Muy bueno, y muy merecido ganador del premio Nébula. Hoy en día es dificil encontrar algún libro que no visite todos los lugares comunes de la ficción especulativa, pero Paolo Bacigalupi lo logra con creces. Una historia muy interesante, con personajes verosímiles, enmarcados en un mundo bastante creíble, y narrados en un estilo ágil pero nunca árido ni gris. Y una premisa sobre el futuro a la vez interesante, novedosa y aterradora. Bastante disfrutable y recomendable.

Buena colección de cuentos cortos, aunque cabe aclarar que se trata de literatura del siglo XIX, y el estilo en el que están escritos no siempre es fácil de leer. Algunos de ellos han envejecido mejor que otros -aunque esto mismo debe de ser testimonio de lo buenos que eran originalmente, ya que la razón por la que algunas de éstas historias se sienten ya cansadas, es por haber sido repetidas y reinventadas una y otra vez por mucha gente, en muchos medios (literatura, cine, radio, TV...), a lo largo de más de un siglo. Dan ganas de buscar algo más del autor, pues tengo el presentimiento de que sus mejores historias no han de ser las que están en este libro.

El futuro quizás no será así, pero es el futuro que a mi me gustaría. Uno de mis libros favoritos de ciencia ficción.

¡Espectacular! Nada que ver con el musical de los años 30 (que por cierto a mí sí me gusta). Un cuento para niños, pero mucho más obscuro de lo que yo esperaba. Los personajes realmente conectan con el lector, y el arte genial, lleno de movimiento y vida. Muy, muy recomendable.

Done with Interview with the Vampire! I'd read it so long ago that I had forgotten a great deal of it, which left me with the same feeling of satisfaction you get when reading a new book. And I really enjoyed it -again. A reminder that vampires are supposed to be these cold, dead, murderous creatures; and not the pretty young playthings from most contemporary vampire stories. Now, on to the Lestat novel!

Update- Done with The Vampire Lestat. Not bad, but I have to say it wasn't quite as satisfying as the previous book was. There are a lot more things going on in this story, but it somehow doesn't feel as cohesive as Interview with the Vampire did. I also felt that the author was somehow deviating a bit from the original concept; that might have helped make the series more popular, but I'm not sure it's made it better. Not a bad book, but not as good as the first one in the series.
