This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.While my I found the humor fun, I found the inclusion of information fantastic. I loved that the back of the book also offers further information on the varieties of ants presented. While my kid is a bit young to fully understand the information presented, she really enjoyed the counting element.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.I am of two minds about this book. On the one hand, I love all the facts about ants and their behavior. I had no idea there were so many different kinds! On the other hand, I feel like the desire to share these facts sometimes clashes with the equally strong desire to make this appealing to kids — in particular, the jokey illustrations (boomboxes? hats?) and language. My wife, a preschool teacher, said her class would’ve definitely missed all the information because they would’ve been too distracted by all the talk of butts, and some would’ve been turned off by the picture of the main character completely swarmed by ants. A good attempt, but fell a bit short for me.… (more)
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.This was super cute and my kids (4 & 8) really enjoyed it. It had a good balance between being informative but silly enough to keep their attention. The only they would have changed is that they were hoping there was going to be a page where it showed the comparative size of each ant.
