I’ve been putting off starting this book for a while but I really wish I hadn’t. I literally couldn’t put it down. Stayed up all night thoroughly engrossed in Audrey and Soberly. Everything felt real, the interactions were normal, the chemistry and reactions and feelings. I swear I’ve had conversations in real life that Audrey experienced. I fell head over heels with this book, the pace was fantastic. The only criticism I think I could give it was the occasional grammar fail. Missing show more words that should be there, my brain provided the proper word but my eyes said “hey it’s missing.” All in all I will read it again and be just as entranced. show less

This is one of the best books I've read lately. It started out strong and kept going all the way through. There was no excess to it. Every single detail was pertinent and not overblown into a cacophony of filler. Each character was well-developed and "real", even if they only played a bit part. The visions of their past only enhanced their development. The story moved along quickly.

I especially liked that some of the early visions created doubt about the characters, which added to the show more intrigue. That the author wrapped the story up neatly by showing final visions was well done and gave the story a finality, not leaving any doubts or loose threads.

The coup de grace for this book was that you couldn't figure out the whodunit. When the author finally revealed the villain, it was a complete surprise. Never in a million years would I have thought it was that particular character. It went against everything else you'd seen from them in the book.

I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to see what else this author puts out.

In this novel, paranormal elements are combined with a bit of mystery and romance. Audrey Eames inherits an inn in a small town in Oregon from an aunt she hadn't seen in years. Initially intending to sell the inn to her aunt's partner and return to her life as an itinerant consulting historian, Audrey finds herself interested in the inn, the area, the history, and the people; and decides to stay on. Some suspicious deaths, financial oddities, and conflicts with her aunt's partner and other show more townspeople complicate her decision. Audrey also has a talent for getting glimpses of people's past lives when she touches them, and her readings seem tied to the deaths. I enjoyed Audrey's story, and would be interested to read more from this author. I was surprised to find that this is the author's first novel. I received this book from LibraryThing Early Reviewers. show less

Past Presence reeled me in right away. Not only is the plot intriguing and full of twists and turns, but the characters are also complex and their emotions are believable. The attention to detail, especially in terms of the visions, is something I appreciate very much. I look forward to more from this author!
