** spoiler alert ** i cried fat tears at cade adopting silas🥹🥹 he’s like yea we’re besties now, no back talk😌 it was soo cute!! like the whole build up to them realizing their feelings was goddamn adorable, like wholesome little puppies….BUT……they went from 0 to 100 like fucking light speed…..literally the only thing they had done so far was jerk off next to each other and then the FIRST TIME one of them touches the other’s cock, the first time they KISS, you’re telling me they skip all the steps straight to anal!? bruhhh gtfo😭😭 cade’s never even had a finger in his ass and silas hasn’t ever done anything more than kiss somebody, and ur telling me they’re ready to fuck!? all of the sudden it goes from handjob to first kiss to frotting to ‘can i try putting a finger in ur ass’ to 3 fingers deep, now let’s fuck raw💀💀💀💀 not to mention apparently shy, anxious, practically socially inept and just coming out of his shell silas is a dirty talking expert and sex god his first time!??? wtf! no fucking way….like bruh is a worrier!!! he has no experience and ur telling me he had no apprehension and fucks like a seasoned vet?? good the fuck bye! and cade, aka total ass virgin, never even THOUGHT about a finger in his ass in his life, let alone a dick, jumps the gun straight to anal??? literally in the space of like 10 minutes. it was just sooo fast, it was JARRING as fuck…..i was like woah, this feels outta character & outta place…..like i just spent half this book getting to know these characters and i felt this was completely at odds with what i’ve learned and the mood of the book too…..like the mood was giving sweet discovery & tentative exploration, at least for their first time doing anything sexual (which should not have included immediate anal), not whatever the fuck that was. silas can be a ravenous filthy mouthed sexpert later in the book jeeez we’ve got time, can they just fucking pace themselves💀 so after that whole mess, and for the rest of the book, the depth of intimacy, emotional and physical, just wasn’t there for me. i couldn’t connect anymore, it all felt shallow and rote. i want to say that the writing started to feel like show and tell, but idk, either way, i was disconnected. then there was that third act break up and i was just desperate to end it. that said, i will be tuning into the next book😂

lila ⋆ i hate it when the mcs go out of character like this 😭 i can see why you'd be pissed if that happened lmao like how can they go from 0 to full speed this fast. no wonder it was jarring. i love how you're like ill tune in to book 2 though 😂 i'm still curious about this one but ill definitely keep in mind that there is basically no progression after they kiss. 💀 great review!! 🧡

✨Lucy IntheSky☄️ Huh I was all in for reading this one in a couple of days but now I'm not so sure, hmm. So not a believable bi-awakening there. I mean what you're saying about them going straight to anal isn't that outside the box, but it feels like it wasn't a satisfying read, I'm thinking. Hm. Ok not going to read this one any time soon.

Drache.... (Angelika) Mug this was similar for me, 3,25 stars. I too didn't feel their connection in the second half anymore, but didn't connect the dots that maybe that had to do with their first penetrative sex being over the top intense and dirty, hmm. Great review! Sorry this wasn't what we both had hoped for. Bit if you haven't read it yet, I warmly recommend The long run by James Acker! ❤️

ivanareadsalot aww sorry you didn't enjoy this! hope your next read will be awesome! <3

Brooke Sorry this was disappointing, Mug! 💕Totally valid reasons, I guess I connected with the characters so much, I just turned a blind eye to all the flaws, lol! 😂

Morgan ♓︎ I’ve been waiting for a non 5 star review for this book to get a better feel for it cuz it was sounding a little too good to be true for a minute there 😂 The sexuality discovery part sounds so disappointing!! Things like that should not be rushed :/ And it sucks that their relationship felt shallow towards the end after you enjoyed the beginning of their friendship. The premise still sounds really fun but I’m definitely lowering my expectations if I pick it up. Great review ✨

Mug @lila, thank you!🧡 i felt like i got whiplash😭 it was just too unbelievable to me to have them move that fast….i was like ??? who are these people??? i hate that they felt like whole new characters bc i really was digging the build up🥲 but i still think the author has potential, plus book two features a mute mmc!!!🤩

Mug @tema, isn’t that just the worst dear🤣🤣💛💛 it was hard for me to accept since up until that point, silas was socially awkward, anxious, and inexperienced. that combination doesn’t have me thinking he’s ready to go all the way after his first kiss, and for it to go so smoothly with confident dirty talk. i like that we got to see silas thinking about cade sexually before this, so at least we know he’s ready to take the next step. (the next step being something like handjob, blowjob, frotting, fingering…not anal). it bothers me that we don’t get the same with cade. sure, he’s way more experienced (with straight sex) and he definitely liked silas as more than a friend (although he couldn’t put two & two together until the very last moment🤣), but that left me with the sense he hasn’t really thought about gay sex (even if he’s aware of how it works), and then all of the sudden, as soon as he figures out he wants silas like that, he’s immediate ready to bottom and we don’t even know if he’s ever had a finger in the ass (you’re right, i don’t think he denied it, but i also don’t think he confirmed it) or thought about wanting to bottom before??? the reason it didn’t work for me is bc this seemed so out of place and not at all like the characters i was getting to know. and as i read on, i was never able to reconnect, which i’m very sad about bc i really wanted to like this🥲 but we all experience things differently so i can definitely understand how this worked for you and why so many people loved it!! i’m very happy this was such a winner for you!!💛💛

Mug @lucy, definitely felt rushed! the feelings of more had been there for both of them, but going straight to anal didn’t feel authentic to the story or characters. you never know tho, the way this unfolds might work for you….i’m definitely in the minority here😂💙

Mug @drache, oh drache!! is it bad i’m glad that i’m not alone in my disappointment?😝🤣 something was definitely different in that second half when it came to their connection, and since their first time is where it all started to crumble for me, that’s sorta what i chalked it up to. one of my goals this year is to read more YA, so i’ll definitely have to remember to check that out!! thank you dear!!💚💚

Mug @ivana, thanks babe!💕 it’s too bad they can’t all be winners, huh?😂😊😊

Mug @brooke, thanks brooke!!💝 i’m a known fan of turning a blind eye if i’m a enjoying a story so much😂 i would’ve have done the same here if i felt the connection as strongly as you did!!😊😊

Mug @morgan, thank you!!💜 it was disappointing!!😭 i just couldn’t get past how that fast pace threw the vibe of the mmcs and the second half of the book off. and unforch, the hit their connection took with this was never recovered for me. but yea the premise was great, and i had a lot of fun in the first half of the book getting to know these two cuties….if you’re able to connect with them better than me, it could end up being great for you!😊

len ❀ 100% AGREED!! the second half really ruined this for me. not only did their relationship feel more sexual than anything else, but their relationship NOT feel emotionally connected (for me) when they had anal sex for the first time. there was literally no progress that led to it. they went from a few jerk off sessions to anal sex like BAM! and like i said, their relationship felt more sexual after that. the intimacy we saw in the first half was gone. they had sex, and more sex, and more sex, and it’s like the people they were growing to be together before was gone. i’m all for first times but this was terrible. the fact that they both had never had thoughts about other men like this and suddenly it’s as if they’re pros? i understand romances are unrealistic but this took it too far because we didn’t see any progress whatsoever for their first time having anal sex. like it just happened. 😭 ugh anyway i really liked the first half but that second half ruined it all for me. it was a 3-star read for me for the first half and that second half made it go down to 2.
other reasons i didn’t love this was because the hostility between silas and cade was hardly relevant. they disliked each other for so many years yet their perspectives of each other changed quite quickly. this is more of a me thing than anything else, since i expected a little more. i still liked their friendship and loved how different they were. great review, mug! 💛

Mug YES exactly!! it felt like the tone of the book completely changed during and after that first sex scene. and you’re right, it kinda turned them into two brand new characters bc instant pros and immediate anal 10 minutes after their first kiss from the babiest of bi’s, one of whom we see zero thoughts of gay sex and the other who is the definition of nervous inexperience, did not fit the storyline or match the characters at all😭😭 they definitely needed a slower progression in between kissing and anal, like 2 to 3 non-penetrative sex scenes, in order to pull off the transition naturally, as well as build intimacy and make it cohesive to their characterization. but yea, the intimacy was gone for me after that, even when they had all that sex, it didn’t feel intimate😭 like there’s unrealistic good and unrealistic bad, and this definitely falls into the latter for me. their perspectives of each other did change soo fast😅 but i think this worked for me since it was refreshing cade was able to recognize he’d been a judgmental, assuming, conclusion hopper so quickly instead of continuing to be childish😂😂 their friendship in the first half was soo precious!🥺 i just wish the book didn’t go off the rails in the second half🥲 thank you elena!!💛💛
