I know this was awarded a Newbery, but I was still pretty dubious going into it. And then I cried my way through the last quarter of the book. Well played, Mr. Alexander. Well played.
I highly recommend the audio version. Having someone else tackle the verse aspect let me just relax and enjoy the story. (Verse is almost always better being heard, not read.) Plus, it's only about 2 hours - so it's super accessible for reluctant readers (especially boys)....more
