Suki Kim does an excellent job of communicating how exhausting and demoralizing it was to live under constant surveillance and restriction. This was different from other books I've read about North Korea because it's about the sons of the elite, who may very well go on to become part of the ruling regime. It's surprising how much they don't know, despite their elite status. It makes you wonder at what point they cross the threshold of being a victim to being complicit. ...more
