I chose this Kindle Unlimited because it was a very short read (around 200 pages). I will say the pace was quick and headed straight into "train wreck" territory!
If you are looking for an afternoon distraction and don't mind an OTT plot, this one was readable.

I did like the author's writing style though, it is to the point and moves quickly.

Betty Lou is a struggling author and a therapist (with a BIG secret). I guess you could call her Author-Doctor?? She lives in a historic mansion in a quiet coastal town.
More than one of the characters are certifiable bat-sh*t craaaazy! Ulterior motives, some nightmarish scenes, a cabin in the woods, and a shot in the dark. There are more than a few plot holes I questioned, but I liked the end.
This novella is part of a standalone domestic suspense series. It is free on KU and the next comes out on Jan 20, 2023. I'll read it because I'm curious....more

"No,no, no. This can't be happening." Lying isn't exactly his forte and his mind is working overtime trying to cover all his tracks. He is right in the middle of it!! He has no clue what to say to someone holding a loaded gun, his girlfriend is leaning hard on him and his mom is now dating a detective! (yep, just what he doesn't need)

It took a minute for me to get into, but around 22%, the ball was rolling fast! Here we goooo... The cliffhanger chapters and twisty turns kept the pages flying.
Fun, fast-paced, great ending. Loved it!

A short story/listen ~ it has great narration, some "action" feels, emotion and intrigue. Recommend if you love special connections, Bletchley Park and code breakers history.

It started off well and I liked the protag, Brooke and the prison setting. I could almost hear the prison doors slamming at Raker Maximum Penitentiary where Brooke is a new nurse practioner. She has a connection to an inmate that she is hiding, but it won't take long to come out.
The narration made it good enough to finish, but I wouldn't recommend.
