But rounded up because in the end I did like the book. I had issues though with it, first, there was a whole lot of personal baggage from each main character for such a short story. And, second, there was too much talking and thinking about those events in the characters past that, imo, it took too much of the story time. The other half of the story consisted of sex scenes. I have no problem with that but this was a case of insta-love sorry lust. I think the author tried really hard to have characters that we are supposed to like but I thought it was a bit forced. I didn't see the falling in love between Courtney and Sean very believable.
I did write some notes while reading this: (I wrote a lot but most of it was grumbling about one thing or another)
From the first page on, whenever the author wrote down Jaxon I just kept thinking "don't walk barefoot because there are jacks on the floor". (One of my issues)
23% - "I absolutely adore your audacity." -Sean WTH a woman who is audacious, what a concept.
26% - "...bent over in a full out chortle." I don't understand why authors can't use belly laugh or something usual like that.
30% - They just met and he wants those kind of pics with Courtney. He becomes hard. Okaaay.
57% - Smashed potatoes. Same thing as mashed potatoes. I must be so old because I just don't get the changing of perfectly good words.
58% - "Open your eyes, pretty girl." -Sean Because ugly won't work.
59% - This is so gross. She is ugly crying and they start kissing. Go blow your nose, wash your face, then kiss. Now, they are having sex. And she has active boobs. Lifting with the inhales and jiggling with the exhales. Then we have to know what her nipples and areolas look like. Do we really have to?
61% - Oh, no no. Sean winked. (This is definitely a trigger for me. I hate guys who wink)
65% - This is where the story turns for me. The best line of the story - "Motherfucking, son of a bitch, head over heels in love with her." Neither wants a relationship but that's where it leads. But I am a romantic at heart and kind of fell in love with these two.
94% - Courtney and her mom are talking and the mom says that having a good looking guy is so nice. So if the guy or girl is ugly, well, they are out of luck then.
This ARC also came with a bonus scene. I had mixed feelings about this. No way would I go for a surprise wedding. Plus, two almost complete strangers walking the "bride" down the isle. Nope. But there were parts that made me tear up. So, I'm a complete mess and you should take my opinion with a grain of salt.
This author is such a good author. I love the way she writes and draws me in with her stories and characters.
Thanks to the publisher and author for the ARC and this is my honest opinion.

I happened to love this little story. I think the reason I only gave it 4 stars is because I would have loved to read a longer book. Not so much the book that the kids were reading in class but more of the kids in the class. I think the author did a great job of not pushing the views down the readers throat. Some kids knew they were gay, or otherwise queer, some of the kids really didn't know, and that sounds so true to life.
I did write some notes down while reading this book: ( I was trying to find my notes thinking I wrote them down on paper but they were actually in my kindle, lol)
Loc 762 - Ok the mom is weird and a bitch. I know there are some people who read the end first but the mom here would read the first part of the book and then read the ending to see if she approved of the book for her 5th grade son to read. So she did this with the book the teacher assigned to the class and pitched a fit because her son might "turn gay" if he read it.
Loc 1115 - These are kids in 5th grade talking about Valentines Day and giving presents like chocolates, flowers, and dinner, in a restaurant, or all three? Wow, I never thought about stuff like that in 5th grade. We were still doing the giving stupid little valentines day cards for everyone. I know it was many years ago and things probably have changed but wow!
This book was a cute little story and I think it would be fun for all to read....more

This story was so good and yes I keep saying it gets better and better but it's true. I hope the author keeps going with this series for years. I can't imagine not being able to stay updated with Kate, Tomasetti, Glock, Skid, Pickles, and the rest of the best little group of people.
I did write some notes while reading this book and like before most of them are the Deitsch definitions.
loc 1560 - "Not to speak ill of the dead." Why is that a thing? If the person is bad say it!!
loc 2014 - Here is where I found out the word of the book. Eschew. I lost count how many times this word showed up but it might have been 7 or 8 times.
loc 2792 - Around here is where I figured out who Ananias was. Or at least had an inkling of who he was.
So now I'm lost as to what series to read without Kate Burkholder. I know the author has other books so I'll try those. Hopefully they are just as good as this series.

It just seems like the young adult books she writes are so sweet and adorable and I love that. And this book had ghosts and romance and that is something I would love to read but I'll have to look elsewhere. I will try and finish this book at a later time. I got 36% in and put it down and never picked it back up. Maybe I didn't give it enough time. I'm so sad about it.

I can't imagine where he will go next!! I don't usually read science fiction but if the author is Blake Crouch it is a definite yes for me. He writes about science that would be way above my head but he makes it, not easy to understand, but easy to read and I always feel like I know what is going on. That is what makes him a great author. My all time favorite is Abandon but the books he has published lately are amazing. One thing I have to say is I don't usually cry while reading sci-fi but this one did it.

First, I would like to say that my daughter recommended this book to me and she liked it, so it will be hard to give it 2 stars and then kind of trash it. Sorry to my daughter but she knows me and we do have a little bit different tastes when it comes to books. I didn't care so much for this book. I didn't like Sadie. The premise of the book is about her and Adam, the man who she is exchanging post-it notes with at work. She feels a connection with him. Where is he throughout the book? Nowhere. It's all about Sadie and her relationship to her boss, Damian. If you base your book on someone, he needs to be there and, yes, I know the ending, but no spoilers here.
I did like that the author talks about the area and how beautiful it sounded especially around Christmas. That was the good part. I scanned quickly through the Christmas chapters because I was so tired of hearing Sadie but started reading again when they had their little spat. It seemed so insignificant a spat. What did she expect? No woman would throw themselves at him again because he is "taken"?
I would recommend two other books instead of this one. A Dog Called Jack by Ivy Pembroke. So adorable, and its setting is London. You love all the people and it is a Christmas book as well. Also, I recommend a book called Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall. It's not a Christmas book but it is a romance and it is so stinking cute, you can't help but fall in love right along with them. ...more

I really liked Mason and Jade. It only took a couple of hours to read once I was able to sit and read for a continuous amount of time and with minimal interruptions. I only had one note while reading this and it was almost a nothing thing but it had to be written. Some authors get one word stuck in their heads while writing and it shows up in their work often. This book's word of the day is "chortle". Everyone, especially the baby, chortled. Not laughed, giggled, chuckled, or tee-heed, but chortled. Like I said not much and I was close to chortling myself this book was so adorable. Another good book in this series.

I thought they only had not yet published books but this book has been previously published back in 2016. I loved Bird Box and Malorie by this author and thought this was a new book.
This book was only 187 pages and I thought I could read it pretty quickly but it started slowly and I didn't know if I would finish it. It was like a teenager was writing this. Maybe he did write it when he was a teen. But then it started to get more interesting and I really wanted to finish. When I did, it was "ah, eh, huh?" Is it an allegory for young love? Is it a paranormal story? I don't know. The author needs to write an epilogue about what he was trying to put across to the reader. Because I sure as hell didn't get it. I didn't care so much for the main characters. We were told they were falling in love but I couldn't see it. It didn't feel like it to me. Maybe the author was at the age where he could get away with writing "penis" in a book. And the end, I couldn't figure it out. Others said the same in their reviews.
I'm so glad he did write Bird Box, and the sequel, Malorie. Those books were fantastic and held you and didn't let go until you finished. More books like that, please, Mr. Malerman.

I liked Maggie and all her pregnant I really liked this book in the series (the last in the series, although there is a novella soon to be released). I liked Maggie and all her pregnant issues. I remember being that way. I liked Cord but he was a little too handsy for someone who didn't want to be in a relationship with anyone or be a part of his son's life. And, no, do not touch a pregnant woman's belly unless she gives you permission. I would have smacked his hand every time he did that. But I liked how they each wormed their way into each others hearts. So this book was a nice ending to the story line.
I did have a problem with one of the books. It was Jaden and Arsula's book. I didn't like the way Arsula got her point across physically. In their book she would throw things at Jaden and he ended up falling down the stairs and broke his ankle. And she kept throwing things and in this book she actually got mad at Cord and lunged at him. Her behavior hasn't changed. I'm scared for their children when they have them. And then, there is Jaden; he thinks he knows everything and puts his therapist degree to use even in other people's business when it isn't asked for. These two people just put me off every time I read them. If they weren't around this book would have gotten 5 stars from me.
I loved the area that this story is written. It would be a perfect place to visit. And I love the other characters in the family. Kim Law is a great writer and I can't wait for more.

I love the setting - Australia. Intrigue and suspense from the first chapter. I couldn't put it down. It was recommended to me and sounded like the Kate Burkholder series by Linda Castillo, and wow was I taken with this book. It is the first book in a 2-book series. I hope the author writes more of Aaron Falk. I will read the second book.
I did write down a couple of notes. Since it is based in Australia I wanted to note when the author wrote about the amazing creatures and animals there.
First creature - Huntsman spider. I googled this and this is one of those spiders that is one of the reasons I will not visit Australia. I'm surprised I didn't dream about these things. Stuff of nightmares.
Second creature - A Redback. This is the Australia version of a black widow spider. They were all over the barn and even the officers didn't want to bother them.
Third - there were a lot of Cockatoos. The author described them as "shrieking in the trees".
And lastly - bunnies. We in America find bunnies as sweet little pets and in the wild we see them hoping around with butterflies flying around, etc. In Australia farm country they see them as pests that need to be gunned down on a daily basis. Wow!
I really liked this book and can't wait to read the next in the series.
