The characters annoyed me a bit in this book, especially the girl.
Again, a lot of unexpected things happened, I can honestly say I can't remember the last time a book managed to surprise me as much as this one did. And in the end, I kind of liked how it all turned out.
Still, the first part of the book was really annoying, at least for me. Though I understood the logic in everything and in many ways, the characters acted like real people would act, I expected a bit more.
Still, a really good book, it made me cry (again), and my feels were all over the place. [image]

Can't say I liked this book too much. True, it got better later on, but I wanted to DNF it at the beginning. I don't know if I'm glad I finished it or it was a waste of time...
The male MC has a weird way of dealing with his problems and I really don't like his personality. I know he's suppose to be the good guy but sometimes I felt like I could relate to the bad guy better than to him. The bad guy has a reason for being like that, Mack is just an as*hole. [image]
The female MC isn't too great either, she's just not as bad.

Ok, so it was better than the last one. This time I didn't want to throw my kindle out the window every 4 pages, so I'll count that a a win!
The first part was damn annoying though, the characters were idiots and, again, pretty bypolar. I wanted to DNF it a few times. It did get better later on, it even became a bit interesting and managed to surprised me.
So let's toast for giving books a second chance (whether they deserve it or not!) [image]

Again, I appreciated the new, interesting world and characters. Can't wait to see what's next!
IMO, though, you should start this series only after the 3rd book is out, finishing the 2nd one with nothing else to do than wonder what will happen next is agonizing! [image]...more

This book was a bit of a rollercoaster, up, down, up again. The first part was interesting, with the new world and all that. I absolutely loved the idea that you have to "pay" to use magic (it was a first for me). Also loved the idea that magic was "discovered", "invented" even. Like fire or water or sliced bread. [image]
So, I can say that I found a lot of really interesting things in this read. The bad part was that, after the "wow" thing passed, I kinda got bored. The story didn't make me curious and the characters weren't as good as I had hoped. And for some reason I really didn't like the male MC (he has a complicated name, something with a Y and an I and a V).
But after I decided that it's a boring book, it started being interesting again! Ok, only about the last 10%, but I absolutely loved loved loved the idea! Dunno why, maybe because it's new and all that, but I found it damn interesting to see that (view spoiler)[ the main character loses her memory of the whole story; basically all she learned and the new guy were erased. (hide spoiler)] [image]
So yeah, in the end, it did kind of make me curious about the next book in the series and what will happen. And who knows, maybe the writing gets better and the characters more interesting! [image]...more

I admit, I skipped the sex parts (they were awful!). Don't get me wrong, I like some sexy time in books, but this one was about 40% sex (and bad one), 30% annoying stuff and well, the rest wasn't so bad.
The plot was interesting, and it could have been a great thing, if not for the annoying characters and the author wanting to put too many stuff in too few pages. I'm surprised the main char didn't end up pregnant, by the way their relationship was going. [image]
As I said, the plot is interesting, so if you're willing to skim a good part of the book, it's worth reading. Ok, maybe it's not... but ah well, you win some, you lose some. ...more

I couldn't connect with this one. The MC was annoying as hell at the beginning (with good reason, but still!) and the story dragged for the first 30%. It was a 2 star read for a pretty long time...
It got better later, though, so it went up to 3 stars in the end. But it all was just, well, not what I expected. Maybe it was me, not the book. And it still made me curious enough not to skim (too much). It's not the best book Wright's ever written though. [image]...more

I admit, it's more like a 2.5 book, but I appreciated some stuff about it so it got a 3 star rating from me. First, it was a freebie, and the book was much better than I expected (like everyone, probably, when I see a free book I expect it to be a 1.5 read, awful writing, plot, characters, everything), the writing was decent, I liked the characters and it made me curious at times. Second, the author ended the first book before the main character got really annoying (to me), if it had continued with this plot it would have been way too boring. [image]
It was nothing special, I wanted more of a build from everything (meaning better built characters, a story with more world building, even a longer, a bit more interesting plot). Ah well, as I said, it wasn't bad and I appreciated some things, worth the hour I put into reading it. [image]...more

There were things that I enjoyed, the idea mainly, and even Kane at the beginning. I enjoyed the plot twist, it was a bit unexpected and appreciated (why I gave it 3 stars, not less). But well, those first days, they were too long and boring and damn long! [image]
I admit, I was curious. I expected Kane to be a badass from the beginning 'til the end (but guess what? That didn't happen!). Of course, he ended up being the good guy. I know, I shouldn't have been surprised, but for some reason, I expected something more from this author (courage? Maybe it's too much to ask). [image]
I want a story where the bad guy stays bad and the chick accepts him as is or she gets the fu*k out. Or I want a good reason for his/her personality to change, not the usual.
Basically, I expected something different and all I got was the same old story, good girl bad guy, good girl good guy, happily ever after. Not a bad concept, but nothing special either. [image]...more

The other book I loved! This one was ok too, but it was "ok" as a whole. Meaning pretty meh for about 55% then pretty interesting afterwards. Too bad though, it made me cry at one point (and I appreciate a book that makes me feel!).

Don't get your hopes up though, it wasn't that much better, but hey, I didn't want to throw it out the window and I ended up liking parts of it. The characters were still annoying (at least the main female one) and I felt absolutely no chemistry. But I liked some ideas from the plot, some stuff that I haven't heard of before.

It was pretty hard to get into this book, it took me a while to want to actually start reading it. And it felt like the main character took everything so easily! It just didn't feel real (not that I expect fantasy books to be real, but you know what I mean). On the bright side though, once I got caught up in the story, everything went smoothly. I didn't like the first half of the book, I even thought about abandoning it at one point. I didn't like the characters and I can't say I felt any chemistry between them. And I skimmed a lot (especially the sex scenes... there were so many of them, and so damn boring!). But after about 60% I started liking it, really liking it. Maybe I just got to understand the characters better, I don't know. I still think they didn't really have a lot of chemistry, but at least I started to feel something from this book (and that's what I'm looking for in a romance). I still skipped the sex scenes, but hey, you can't have it all. Does it deserve a 4.2 rating ? Nope, not at all. But it's not too bad either. ...more

Gah, I tried to read as fast as possible to get to see where and how everyone winds up and it ended like this! I need to start the next one :P It was a pretty nice book, although it took a bit 'til I got caught up in the story, guess that's why I only gave it 3 stars. On the bright side though, this was the first vampire I've found that actually acts like one. He's not that lonely "old" guy who hates his power and who has to suffer for it. No, this guy is badass and I really really liked that. So I can't wait to start the next one, and maybe find the ending I'm looking for....more

The first part of the book was about 1.5 stars, I wanted to stop reading it at one point. The characters annoyed me and I didn't really like either of them. Then it got better, for some reason I started getting into the story and I actually liked it. So about 3 stars. I appreciate the fact that the author managed to drag me in despite the fact that I was rather reluctant to continue. In the end though it was soooo so so cliche. It was, again, annoying. If not for that it would have deserved 3 stars, with a better ending maybe 3.5. Ah well, all in all, a cute romance, nothing special but not awful either. :)...more

I have no idea how to rate this book. Everyone seemed to hate it so I started it with really low expectations. What can I say, I was surprised. Some were good surprises, some not so much. On one hand, there were a lot of things that I didn't like. The long, maybe useless descriptions were annoying (but I got used to them by now). I didn't like the "new" Richard and how he seemed to change from the guy I was used to. I didn't like the sexual relationships (if you can call them that way) and all they implied. But well, that's kind of the only stuff that I didn't enjoy. The good part is that all these changes were logical, Hamilton was really good at explaining everything and made me see the rationality behind all these changes. Can't say I liked them but they made sense. On the other hand, there were a lot of things that I really enjoyed. This book made me "feel" more than any other book of this series. It made me smile, frown, love, hate, yell etc. For me, that's one of the most important things in a book: to make react. It was long but really fast paced. It was very well written. It's everything I began to expect form this series. I just couldn't bring myself to rate this book any lower. Despite all the things I disliked, this was a damn well written book. Despite all the people who hate it and say that this is the beginning of the end, I just see it as a new beginning, a pretty big plot twist (for lack of a better word) that made some people hate this series and some just a bit more curious. I say it's worth a try :)...more
