Still as good, if not better the second time around. Still cried this time. This one really tugs at the heartstrings while setting you at the edge of your seat.
For a novella, this reads better than some other full length books I've read. Pamela Clare is a great story teller, and she knows how to create some great heroes! The build up of tension, suspense, and all the emotions she conjures up in her writing is nothing short of extraordinary. Throughout this book, I held my breathe, lost some sleep, and shed a few tears going through the ordeal with this group of characters.
It's almost Christmas and that means parties. There are two separate parties held at one location, and they both have members and affiliates of the I-Team in attendance. But soon enough, the celebration turns into a nightmare for them all. Some of them are held hostage by a groups of narco-terrorists who wants an imprisoned family member released. Meanwhile, some of their friends and loved ones are on the outside figuring out how to deal with these people hellbent on destruction and killing.
The way Ms. Clare tells the story can be played out like scenes from a movie. And it's on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of movie. I loved every part of it. I have come to love these characters as well so it's hard to let them go. I hope Ms. Clare will revisit them sometime in the future. This book also has the collaboration of Kaylea Cross's HRT men, I haven't read that series but I'm intrigued now after reading this book and will be checking them out soon.
SO. SO. GOOD. Definitely a 2015 favorites!

Youtuber, philanthropist, CEO, and author Connor Franta second memoir delves into his personal life, from dealing with depression, anxiety, love and heartbreak.
The book is aesthetically pleasing with its layout of photos interweaving between poems, essays, short stories. There are a few poignant and inspiring quotes and encouragements for life philosophy from living in the moment, balancing being selfish and selfless, to random act of kindness. Sharing some of his personal life, you get a glimpse into the last 2 years.
The writing itself is simple enough yet there's a raw openness to it. There were certain parts of the book where I felt like he barely scratched the surface but some things are kept private. Especially when he's in the business of disclosure through social media. There's a somber tone to the book and overall I enjoyed his thoughts and journey. ...more

What she lacks in confidence is her abilities Mercy Conde has all the confidence she needs in the corporate world of running her parents restaurants. What she lacks in confidence is her abilities and strength to take care of herself in dangerous situations. To prove to her parents she can do just that and take over their international business, she enroll in Brothers In Arms self defense course.
Vann Highrider is one third of the owners of Brothers In Arms. With Cherokee blood, he's known for his tracking skills. And certain activities around their company are raising his suspicions that may be related to their last case. His job however is distracted by Mercy, who can't seem to get any closer to her goals of getting physically stronger. So he takes her under his wing one on one to improve her skills.
This is a short quick read, the relationship between Vann and Mercy develops quite fast, and their connections are instantaneous. Although the threat to the company is related to the last book, you get enough background that you don't feel lost in the story. The suspense could be built upon a bit more but I still enjoyed the overall story.

Now near the anniversary of his death, another body is found, linking it to those cases. The recent murder is being investigated by detective Tobias Novak, and Julia Vargas, Jim's daughter.
Julia never really knew her father, considering he was in undercover work and was never around before his death. Now it's her chance to reopen the cold cases to learn what her father knew and what he might have been involved in. Julia has quite a few demons to slay herself from her own work. She has a sexual relationship with Novak, but has never given them much of a chance in the commitment department. As they work together to piece together the clues, they discover complex connections between all the key players and it's a race to find the killer before Julia becomes the next target.
This book was full of mystery and suspense, in fact, the romance was about 5% of the book and I wasn't disappointed. The mystery kept you guessing of who and where all these characters fit to complete the puzzle. The romance between Julia and Novak felt true. I understand Julia's hesitation to get too close to people, but Novak patience and faith make you root for them both.
This is the third book in the series but it can totally be read as a standalone.

If you have a fear of blood or its details, this book might not be for you. I find it a bit hard rating this book as well. There were good and bad aspects which I will explain in my review.
Cain Killion, also known as Killer Killion's Kid, aka Triple K, has been living in the shadows of his father's sins. He was forced to endure his father's torture as a child, and through that torture, he developed a sensory ability to get into a killer's mind by touching and bathing in the blood of the victims and replaying the moments before their deaths. Now he uses that ability to help the FBI solve murder cases.
Very interesting premise for a book, right? Though you have to suspend some disbelief to get through the book.
It is almost twenty years since the Ledgers family was murdered by Adam Killion, leaving the only victim, Mercy Ledger and a symbol drawn on the wall as evidence. Now on a current murder case, that same symbol has surfaced and Cain must decipher what it means and what connections it has to his father's crimes.
Mercy Ledger is trying to survive, as much as you could survive in a mental institution where the psychiatrist who's supposed to be helping you is also a sociopath. Cain needs to know what Mercy knows from that crime years ago, so they must somehow work to figure this out. Not easy to do when you have a target on your back.
There's a romance that develops between Cain and Mercy but what ruined the enjoyment for me was their self-deprecating thoughts of themselves and how they'd be better off leaving the other person alone. It was frustrating in that as soon as something happens to the other person, they realize they can't live without them. Mind you, both these characters have been through the ringer in the "mindfuck" category of twisty proportion.
There is an unexpected twist in the book that left some questions unanswered, which I assume will be addressed in the next book. Although there were some issues in the book, such as the unexplained reason how Adam Killion was caught in the first place, what drove him to kill, his motives, etc. I find it hard to believe that after 70-something murders, he would be caught so easily. It would be nice if this information was filled in. There were parts where the story and its directions were predictable so I wasn't surprised when they were revealed. The author's writing is good, albeit the prose is flowery at times considering the context of blood and gore. It was still an interesting read for a psychological thriller but the loose ends and the pacing, which dropped halfway through, made me round the ratings down to 4 stars instead 5.

One - This picks up the story where The Beast left off with Rhage and Mary in the process of adopting Bitty, a young girl who lost her mother from domestic violence. Bitty has heard her mother speak of an uncle, Ruhn, but as far as efforts go to locate her bloodline, no one has shown up to claim Bitty. Which is what Mary and Rhage hope for. The three of them are starting to become a family, growing with love and hardships. Bitty was abused by her father and as vampire transition looms, it also threatens her life due to her previous injuries. The scene at Havers nearly broke my heart. But as a family, they will get through this pain. Then their world gets turned upside down again when they find out the uncle does exist and he wants to meet Bitty. I love this story of these people. There was heartbreak, amusement, love, and in the end, a true HEA for a family, one that was impossible considering Mary is infertile. Bitty is a great character and I love the bond she has with everyone in the house, especially with Lassiter. We kind of get to see Lassiter playing in the role of fate in a way, so this may be a slow introduction of him to taking over Virgin Scribe's role?
Two - The other story involves trainee, Axe, and Elise, daughter of an aristocratic family who wants to break away from glymera social norms to pursue her career in psychology so she can help her vampire race. Axe really shows himself to become a soldier among the Brothers. He has a rough family history that was also heartbreaking. He gets hired on to be Elise's bodyguard and their attraction grew from there. There are trust issues along the way but they work through it.
I'm really enjoying this spinoff series as it's a way to read more about the Brothers and their shellans. It'll be interesting to see how the trainees evolve as well.
P.S. Saxton and Ruhn. I'm so ready to see if a book will be written for them....more

The book opens with the main characters, Julene and Samson, going about their daily lives. It was then understood that they recently had a breakup but we don't know the cause. The mystery of that breakup didn't last very long as the cause was revealed just a couple of chapters in. After the breakup, Julene discovers her passion for art again and became successful. As well, the situation Julene finds herself in can be related to by many women. However, the story lacked the insightfulness that could have been achieved through better writing execution. The characters' actions also didn't feel true or realistic given the situation. Samson, who have been warming his sheets with another woman dumps her and automatically Julene takes him back even though the breakup was so bad she had to leave town for six months?
As a reader, I like when authors show me their world they want to portray. There was too much telling in this book and even so, the description or lack thereof in certain parts, missed the mark. One of my favorite hobbies is drawing, and considering the vocation of the character, I expected some description of Julene's art process. It was just told that her art magically gets created and accepted by the art world, I don't think I ever got a sense of what her art would look like. I felt like I got the summary of the characters day-to-day activities in each chapters. It got mundane and boring really quickly. The dialogue felt forced and some situations felt very awkward. For example, Julene and her date laughing hysterically over her use of the word "pizzazz". Not sure why or how it was so funny, or was it an Aussie joke that I completely missed?
I had to force myself to finish the book in order to give this a fair rating. Unfortunately this book did not work for me....more

This book explores the connections of the characters and their ancestors leading back to the goddesses. I enjoyed the search for the star as I did the first two books. The only thing I wanted more was the connection between Riley and Doyle. It felt more like a relationship of convenience. They were the only two single people left, and even the beginning of their relationship was a no frills enjoy it while you can sex. I wanted a little more than that for them.
Overall, I still enjoyed the story and the epilogue was nice. Would've liked to see them a few years down the road to see how they lead their lives though....more

Eve and Roarke are returning from a party when a naked woman comes stumbling out into the path of their car. After taking her to the hospital, it's clear the woman, Daphne, is a victim of rape and assault. Eve soon learns her identity and as she search the victim's residence, she also finds the dead husband, Anthony Strazza. However, Daphne doesn't recall the events of the night, only that she seen "the devil".
As Eve and her group of trusty cops look for evidence, they learn that there's other similar unsolved cases of rape, assault and robbery. Though those cases didn't involve a dead body. Now as their investigation builds, Eve explores all avenues and person of interests. The case hits close to home as she's no stranger to being a rape victim. Memories from the past surface, but now she has the support system to beat those dark memories back. I love the little moments between Eve and Roarke, them watching The Avengers, and the gift Roarke bought her to give new meanings to an old sad memory. Roarke really knows how to grab a woman's heart!
The killer is quite a piece of work, and I love the way Eve brought him down. The epilogue was also very well executed. And a good message to all rape victims... You are not to blame and it is never your fault.
Now I go and await the next book for 6 months....more

For tripletsA little too slow in pacing for me as a romantic suspense hence the 3 stars. I see this one more of a CR with a bit of suspense thrown in.
For triplets, Savannah, Samantha, and Sabrina, their world came toppling down on the night that their parents were killed in a murder-suicide. Believing that their father killed their mother then took his own life, they lived not knowing the truth.
This story spans the teenage years focusing on Savannah before she went off to become a prosecutor, how she met Zach Tanner, and the romance that grew and the missed chances they had from their circumstances and inability to communicate. I think the last part really irked me. They could've come clean with their secrets early on in the book but it took three-quarter of the book to have them tell each other the truth. They dragged their feet too much that I felt it slowed the story down.
The romance bit was sweet and sexy. The interest I had was finding out who killed their parents, and turns out, it was a bit anticlimactic and over the top. There's a bit of intrigue with the other sisters so I'll continue with their stories....more

Another favorite in this new series. This one focus around Eric Hawke and Victoria Woodley. Eric got off on the wrong foot with Vic in the first book, thinking she was a man getting in between his friends happy ending. Of course he was led to believe Vic was a guy so it wasn't entirely his fault. There was an immediate attraction when they both met.
Vic is escaping the big city of Chicago to come to Scarlet for Lexi and Austin's wedding. Even though she's on vacation, her boss is hounding her with work. She's also trying to escape the nightmare and torture that she endured with a sleazy ex-boyfriend. Vic is a city girl and Lexi has all sorts of wonderful activities planned for the bridal party to show Vic the beauty of Scarlet, and to get her mind off her past ordeal.
Although they didn't meet on the best of terms, Eric and Vic teams up to work on a project for the wedding. Vic has sworn off men but the attraction to Eric is so strong, will she be able to stick to that promise?
Everything in this book was great. The development between Eric and Vic's relationship was sexy and sweet. What was also great was Eric's approach to Vic. He knew that someone from her past hurt her and he never rushed her in any way. Eric is off the charts hot. Vic also wins a lot of people over with her big heart and kindness.
There was no angst, drama, or big misunderstandings tropes that made this a great read. It was simply straightforward and very enjoyable. There's cameos from Gabe, Nate and Jack's family in this one. Looking forward to more books in the series.

Maggie Rose is a lawyer and true crime writer who's known for overturning convictions of murderers to set them free. At first glance you wouldn't guess that she's a lawyer. Her bright blue hair, reclusive tendencies and refusal to do court or press appearances put her more on the quirky side than a professional lawyer. But what is it about her that allows her to find loopholes to put enough doubts in crime investigations to set convicts free?
Hamish Wolfe has been in jail for the last two years for the murder of four women. He claims he's innocent. So does the fan group lead by his mother. His charm and good looks has amassed a following who's devoted to setting him free. They're focused on bringing Maggie in to do the same.
The author uses letters, newspaper clips, and other articles to give the many perspectives on these characters and what occurred to put Wolfe behind bars. There are lots of questions that arise as you're reading so they keep you wondering and guessing. I started to work things out in my head but even then the events unfolding still surprised me.

I'm a bit sad we have come to the conclusion of Simon and Meg's story, I want to read more of them even if it's just snippets of their lives. There'll be more Others books but it'll involve newer characters and new places. These characters of Lakeside Courtyard have etched a place in my heart!
When Meg Corbyn stumbled into Lakeside Courtyard, where human laws don't apply, she changed the course and relationships between humans, terra indigenes, and more. Since the last book where the Humans First and Last Movement have been brought down and destroyed by Namid's teeth and claws, fearsome Elders of the wild country, communities are trying to rebuild within the turmoil of limited resources. When faced with adversity, there are those who band together to work for the benefit of the whole group. Then there are others who wants everything for themselves.
Cyrus "Jimmy" Montgomery belongs in that latter group. He has come to Lakeside Courtyard looking for a handout. He's a manipulative, disgraceful conman who cares for nothing but himself. As his presence brings negative impact and distrust among those who established a pecking order in the Courtyard, Simon Wolfgard, as pack leader wants Cyrus gone. However, the Elders have other reasons to let him stay. They want to observe and learn how to decipher from a good human and bad human so that they can decide who and how much of them can be permitted to pass through parts of the wild country. Cyrus's schemes cause more distrust and loss of lives, though he thinks he's above it all and not responsible. Trying to make a quick buck, he makes the biggest mistake of all by taking the most treasured thing in the Courtyard. And the chase is on.
The events that played out could've all been preventable but lessons are now learned. There was much excitement and anticipation in the last few chapters, and a super sweet ending that I'm sure I'll come back to read over and over again.

Penelope Featherington has loved Colin Bridgerton from afar since she was sixteen. Everyone knows that Colin is a charmer and there's no way he could fall for a wallflower like Penelope, even she knew that.
Both Penelope and Colin thought they knew each other, but there were a few things about them that will surprise each another. Colin's more than just the charmer, and Penelope's more than the quiet wallflower everyone knew her to be.
I love Penelope's honesty, she may have had her secrets but she stayed true to herself.
I love seeing more updates of the previous Bridgertons and the evolving relationship between Penelope and Colin. And the identity of Whistledown is also revealed, which wasn't surprising as much as delightful. So glad that it's the person I expected it to be.
Next I'm curious as to whom Eloise has been corresponding with. Looking forward to her book....more

This book is like an updated version of Cinderella without the glass slippers.
Sophie Beckett, an illegitimate child of an earl, has always yearned for family and love. The earl never shown her any affection even though he had accepted her into his care. When the earl remarried, Sophie hoped that she would gain a stepmother and stepsisters. That however, wasn't the case. After the death of the earl, Sophie was relegated to tasks of a servant, and at times, duties enough for three servants. One night, she wanted to pretend that she wasn't a servant and attended Lady Bridgerton's masquerade ball. It was there that she met the man of her dreams, none other than Benedict Bridgerton himself, the most eligible bachelor in London high society.
All Benedict wanted to do was to escape to a quiet study away from the noise and the mamas and their marriageable daughters. Until his mother requested that he have one dance with Penelope Featherington, who's usually a wallflower at these events. He was on his way to do just that until he felt a sensation. Responding to this sensation, he turned and met the lady in silver. From this moment on, both their lives changed.
Like Cinderella, Sophie had to be home by midnight, and when she disappeared without divulging her identity, she left Benedict searching for the lady in silver for years to come.
Their paths cross again, and although Benedict doesn't recognize her, Sophie remembers him all too well and the things he made her feel.
What I love about this story is that Benedict falls for both versions of Sophie, without realizing she's one and the same. He does have a very un-gentlemanly moment when he blackmails her but he more than made up for it once he realizes he doesn't care what the gossipers will say about him and the housemaid.
The other enjoyable moments in this book involved Lady Bridgerton going toe to toe with Sophie's stepmother/slavedriver. Who really surprised me though is Posy. I hope there's some sort of update about her in upcoming book(s). I also loved seeing more of the younger Bridgerton siblings interact here, especially Hyacinth. She's a hoot.
I'm leaning more towards one person for the identity of Lady Whistledown, so hoping it'll be revealed soon to see if I'm right.
And I'm ready to jump directly into Colin and Penelope's book after the awkward scene in this one! Poor Penelope, I wanted to hug her....more

This second book follows the eldest of the Bridgerton siblings. Anthony has always loved being the oldest. He is the first born; first to know his parents, and the one to love them the longest. But when his father dies at 39, an age when his uncle also died, Anthony believes that it will also become his fate. Anthony is known around the London ton as a rake and a rogue. But believing that he will die early, he decides to marry, so that he can see his children born. Plus, he already has in mind who the next Lady Bridgerton will be.
Kate Sheffield has only made her debut to London society recently, and at the age of 21, it seems rather late. Her younger, more lovelier and beautiful sister, Edwina, is the one catching the eyes of many bachelors. Kate is quite protective of her sister, so any suitors must meet her standards and approval. So when Anthony comes calling, Kate decides he will need to pass the test before he can court her sister. Kate is well aware of his reputation and she knows there's no way Edwina will be his wife. But the more time she spent in his company and learning more about him, Kate find herself falling in love bit by bit. Perhaps he's not as bad as she assumed. But how can she fall for a man who's asking her sister for her hand in marriage?
Anthony and Kate are perfect together. They are funny, smart, and know how to push each other's buttons. They each carry a fear that must be overcome. Anthony comforting Kate during a scene of her phobia was heart-melting. *sigh*
What I love about this book: Witty/funny dialogue and banter ✓ A heroine that I can respect and admire ✓ A hero that I can add to my book boyfriends list ✓ Characters who have family values ✓ Heartwarming moments between H/h but also with their families ✓ Romantic gestures ✓ Laugh out loud scenes ✓ Great writing and characterization ✓ Lady Whistledown's columns ✓
Really, there isn't anything about this book that I didn't like. I have two characters in mind that I suspect as Lady Whistledown, but only time will tell if I'm right (if she is revealed at all).
Pamela Clare's venture into contemporary romance is just as delicious to devour as her historical and romantic suspense.
I love a rekindle romance betPamela Clare's venture into contemporary romance is just as delicious to devour as her historical and romantic suspense.
I love a rekindle romance between two characters. Lexi Jewell escaped Scarlet, Colorado 12 years ago for the big city. Now she returns to help her father with the family inn when as he has personal struggles with his own marriage. On her first day back, she runs into her first love, Austin Taylor. They both broke each other's hearts years ago. Can they mend those fences and be friends? The answer is yes they can. Even friends with benefits as the sparks between them remains. Austin Taylor thought he hardened his feelings toward Lexi after she left, but having her close reminds him that maybe he has a soft spot for her still.
This is strictly CR but there's a hint of mystery/suspense as things kick up to discover an embezzlement along with a man on the run.
I completely enjoyed this, and I love seeing some of the I-Team characters like Zach and Gabe.

To Daphne, most men sees her as a friendly companion instead of something in the romantic sense. The few who are interested in her hand for marriage... well she feels nothing for them. That is, until a certain duke returns to London.
The Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, had overcome quite a lot since he was young. He's well versed, well traveled, educated, and smart. So you wouldn't have known that he struggled with speech as a child. He's not perfect by any means, but he proved his father wrong who had shunned and disowned him long ago.
With his return to London, Simon finds himself immersed in parties and fending off mothers and their parades of young daughters. Until he meets Daphne and they both scheme to be a pretend couple so that he can avoid the advances of other females, while Daphne may be able to have more suitors come to call if she look more desirable.
This is my first book by Julia Quinn and I quite enjoyed it. I love the large and imposing Bridgerton family. Their meddling ways was entertaining to read. Simon and Daphne were quite fun themselves, I love the witty banter between them. They're not the perfect couple and their flaws make the story have more depth.
