Still as good, if not better the second time around. Still cried this time. This one really tugs at the heartstrings while setting you at the edge of your seat.
For a novella, this reads better than some other full length books I've read. Pamela Clare is a great story teller, and she knows how to create some great heroes! The build up of tension, suspense, and all the emotions she conjures up in her writing is nothing short of extraordinary. Throughout this book, I held my breathe, lost some sleep, and shed a few tears going through the ordeal with this group of characters.
It's almost Christmas and that means parties. There are two separate parties held at one location, and they both have members and affiliates of the I-Team in attendance. But soon enough, the celebration turns into a nightmare for them all. Some of them are held hostage by a groups of narco-terrorists who wants an imprisoned family member released. Meanwhile, some of their friends and loved ones are on the outside figuring out how to deal with these people hellbent on destruction and killing.
The way Ms. Clare tells the story can be played out like scenes from a movie. And it's on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of movie. I loved every part of it. I have come to love these characters as well so it's hard to let them go. I hope Ms. Clare will revisit them sometime in the future. This book also has the collaboration of Kaylea Cross's HRT men, I haven't read that series but I'm intrigued now after reading this book and will be checking them out soon.
SO. SO. GOOD. Definitely a 2015 favorites!

It's been three years since Ellie Meeks lost her husband, a helicopter pilot in the Army Ranger. Raising twin toddlers, Daniel and Daisy, as a single parent has been a challenge. She didn't need a challenge of a broken down vehicle to add to her list. But that's when local volunteer/ski patroller/Rocky Mountain Rescue team member, Jesse Moretti showed up. Although the two have been neighbors for two years, they never actually met. He's the good neighbor who have shoveled her sidewalks and put out the trash bin when she forgets. Though Ellie thought all those deeds were from all the good folks of Scarlet Springs rather than one man.
Jesse Moretti has some challenges of his own, such as PTSD from his time in the Rangers, as well as from losing a girl he couldn't saved. He didn't have the inclination to be involved with anyone. Until he came across Ellie with her sick kids. As their encounters grew, so did their attraction.
Ellie struggles with moving on, and Jesse struggles with letting himself get too close for fear of letting this family down. The characters were very likeable and issues were resolved through communications instead of misunderstandings, which is a huge plus. The romance was fast paced and quite steamy. The twins added some cute moments and I love getting to see characters from the I-Team series again. This time with Nate, Megan, and Jack's family.
Loving this series so far, and guarantee you will for hard for these characters and this little town.

Another great procedural book, some people read for the romance, some focus on the process of figuring out the killer. This book gives you both and a bit more.
Eve and Roarke are returning from a party when a naked woman comes stumbling out into the path of their car. After taking her to the hospital, it's clear the woman, Daphne, is a victim of rape and assault. Eve soon learns her identity and as she search the victim's residence, she also finds the dead husband, Anthony Strazza. However, Daphne doesn't recall the events of the night, only that she seen "the devil".
As Eve and her group of trusty cops look for evidence, they learn that there's other similar unsolved cases of rape, assault and robbery. Though those cases didn't involve a dead body. Now as their investigation builds, Eve explores all avenues and person of interests. The case hits close to home as she's no stranger to being a rape victim. Memories from the past surface, but now she has the support system to beat those dark memories back. I love the little moments between Eve and Roarke, them watching The Avengers, and the gift Roarke bought her to give new meanings to an old sad memory. Roarke really knows how to grab a woman's heart!
The killer is quite a piece of work, and I love the way Eve brought him down. The epilogue was also very well executed. And a good message to all rape victims... You are not to blame and it is never your fault.
Now I go and await the next book for 6 months....more

Another favorite in this new series. This one focus around Eric Hawke and Victoria Woodley. Eric got off on the wrong foot with Vic in the first book, thinking she was a man getting in between his friends happy ending. Of course he was led to believe Vic was a guy so it wasn't entirely his fault. There was an immediate attraction when they both met.
Vic is escaping the big city of Chicago to come to Scarlet for Lexi and Austin's wedding. Even though she's on vacation, her boss is hounding her with work. She's also trying to escape the nightmare and torture that she endured with a sleazy ex-boyfriend. Vic is a city girl and Lexi has all sorts of wonderful activities planned for the bridal party to show Vic the beauty of Scarlet, and to get her mind off her past ordeal.
Although they didn't meet on the best of terms, Eric and Vic teams up to work on a project for the wedding. Vic has sworn off men but the attraction to Eric is so strong, will she be able to stick to that promise?
Everything in this book was great. The development between Eric and Vic's relationship was sexy and sweet. What was also great was Eric's approach to Vic. He knew that someone from her past hurt her and he never rushed her in any way. Eric is off the charts hot. Vic also wins a lot of people over with her big heart and kindness.
There was no angst, drama, or big misunderstandings tropes that made this a great read. It was simply straightforward and very enjoyable. There's cameos from Gabe, Nate and Jack's family in this one. Looking forward to more books in the series.

Maggie Rose is a lCleverly written, this book is full of surprises. It will lead you down the rabbit hole and feels like you'll never meet the ground.
Maggie Rose is a lawyer and true crime writer who's known for overturning convictions of murderers to set them free. At first glance you wouldn't guess that she's a lawyer. Her bright blue hair, reclusive tendencies and refusal to do court or press appearances put her more on the quirky side than a professional lawyer. But what is it about her that allows her to find loopholes to put enough doubts in crime investigations to set convicts free?
Hamish Wolfe has been in jail for the last two years for the murder of four women. He claims he's innocent. So does the fan group lead by his mother. His charm and good looks has amassed a following who's devoted to setting him free. They're focused on bringing Maggie in to do the same.
The author uses letters, newspaper clips, and other articles to give the many perspectives on these characters and what occurred to put Wolfe behind bars. There are lots of questions that arise as you're reading so they keep you wondering and guessing. I started to work things out in my head but even then the events unfolding still surprised me.
Looking forward to reading more from this author....more

I loved every minute of this. It pulled at your heartstrings. Nate and Tammy recognized each other as mates when Tammy turned sixteen. Nate is stubborn and protective but only wants the best for his mate. His parents loved when they were also young but the mating bond wasn't strong enough to make them last. Nate didn't want that for himself and Tammy. He thinks he's doing what's best for her by holding back and let Tammy grow and expand her freedom in life experience. But all Tammy wants is to love Nate. It took a bit for Nate to come to his senses and everything about them was sweet and sexy. Love the flower scene and the epilogue with their twins. ...more

I'm a bit sad we have come to the conclusion of Simon and Meg's story, I want to read more of them even if it's just snippets of their lives. There'll be more Others books but it'll involve newer characters and new places. These characters of Lakeside Courtyard have etched a place in my heart!
When Meg Corbyn stumbled into Lakeside Courtyard, where human laws don't apply, she changed the course and relationships between humans, terra indigenes, and more. Since the last book where the Humans First and Last Movement have been brought down and destroyed by Namid's teeth and claws, fearsome Elders of the wild country, communities are trying to rebuild within the turmoil of limited resources. When faced with adversity, there are those who band together to work for the benefit of the whole group. Then there are others who wants everything for themselves.
Cyrus "Jimmy" Montgomery belongs in that latter group. He has come to Lakeside Courtyard looking for a handout. He's a manipulative, disgraceful conman who cares for nothing but himself. As his presence brings negative impact and distrust among those who established a pecking order in the Courtyard, Simon Wolfgard, as pack leader wants Cyrus gone. However, the Elders have other reasons to let him stay. They want to observe and learn how to decipher from a good human and bad human so that they can decide who and how much of them can be permitted to pass through parts of the wild country. Cyrus's schemes cause more distrust and loss of lives, though he thinks he's above it all and not responsible. Trying to make a quick buck, he makes the biggest mistake of all by taking the most treasured thing in the Courtyard. And the chase is on.
The events that played out could've all been preventable but lessons are now learned. There was much excitement and anticipation in the last few chapters, and a super sweet ending that I'm sure I'll come back to read over and over again.
Great ending to a spectacular series. I loved every moment of it!...more

This second book follows the eldest of the Bridgerton siblings. Anthony has always loved being the oldest. He is the first born; first to know his parents, and the one to love them the longest. But when his father dies at 39, an age when his uncle also died, Anthony believes that it will also become his fate. Anthony is known around the London ton as a rake and a rogue. But believing that he will die early, he decides to marry, so that he can see his children born. Plus, he already has in mind who the next Lady Bridgerton will be.
Kate Sheffield has only made her debut to London society recently, and at the age of 21, it seems rather late. Her younger, more lovelier and beautiful sister, Edwina, is the one catching the eyes of many bachelors. Kate is quite protective of her sister, so any suitors must meet her standards and approval. So when Anthony comes calling, Kate decides he will need to pass the test before he can court her sister. Kate is well aware of his reputation and she knows there's no way Edwina will be his wife. But the more time she spent in his company and learning more about him, Kate find herself falling in love bit by bit. Perhaps he's not as bad as she assumed. But how can she fall for a man who's asking her sister for her hand in marriage?
Anthony and Kate are perfect together. They are funny, smart, and know how to push each other's buttons. They each carry a fear that must be overcome. Anthony comforting Kate during a scene of her phobia was heart-melting. *sigh*
What I love about this book: Witty/funny dialogue and banter ✓ A heroine that I can respect and admire ✓ A hero that I can add to my book boyfriends list ✓ Characters who have family values ✓ Heartwarming moments between H/h but also with their families ✓ Romantic gestures ✓ Laugh out loud scenes ✓ Great writing and characterization ✓ Lady Whistledown's columns ✓
Really, there isn't anything about this book that I didn't like. I have two characters in mind that I suspect as Lady Whistledown, but only time will tell if I'm right (if she is revealed at all).
Pamela Clare's venture into contemporary romance is just as delicious to devour as her historical and romantic suspense.
I love a rekindle romance betPamela Clare's venture into contemporary romance is just as delicious to devour as her historical and romantic suspense.
I love a rekindle romance between two characters. Lexi Jewell escaped Scarlet, Colorado 12 years ago for the big city. Now she returns to help her father with the family inn when as he has personal struggles with his own marriage. On her first day back, she runs into her first love, Austin Taylor. They both broke each other's hearts years ago. Can they mend those fences and be friends? The answer is yes they can. Even friends with benefits as the sparks between them remains. Austin Taylor thought he hardened his feelings toward Lexi after she left, but having her close reminds him that maybe he has a soft spot for her still.
This is strictly CR but there's a hint of mystery/suspense as things kick up to discover an embezzlement along with a man on the run.
I completely enjoyed this, and I love seeing some of the I-Team characters like Zach and Gabe.

To Daphne, most men sees her as a friendly companion instead of something in the romantic sense. The few who are interested in her hand for marriage... well she feels nothing for them. That is, until a certain duke returns to London.
The Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, had overcome quite a lot since he was young. He's well versed, well traveled, educated, and smart. So you wouldn't have known that he struggled with speech as a child. He's not perfect by any means, but he proved his father wrong who had shunned and disowned him long ago.
With his return to London, Simon finds himself immersed in parties and fending off mothers and their parades of young daughters. Until he meets Daphne and they both scheme to be a pretend couple so that he can avoid the advances of other females, while Daphne may be able to have more suitors come to call if she look more desirable.
This is my first book by Julia Quinn and I quite enjoyed it. I love the large and imposing Bridgerton family. Their meddling ways was entertaining to read. Simon and Daphne were quite fun themselves, I love the witty banter between them. They're not the perfect couple and their flaws make the story have more depth.

I always imagined a heroine deserving of him enough but can also bring him to his knees. A heroine that's strong enough to match him but also challenge him. And the author definitely delivered in Lila/Isadora.
Book 1 and 2 built up to this finale. Gabe thought he lost the woman he loved along with his only son. Until a woman shows up claiming to be Isadora and that his son is also alive and well. In a world of spies, Gabe is a lone wolf, who always have his guard up and does not trust anyone. So could he actually believe this woman? She looks, talks, walks, and carries herself differently from Isadora.
Lila Wickham has been so deep undercover for the last 5 years, she's no longer the same person. Now that she's free from her CIA duties, she wants to return to the man whom she left years ago, but would he believe her story let alone recognize her?
The premise behind this story is intriguing though you may have to suspend some disbelief to buy into it. I don't know much about CIA stuff but perhaps implantation devices could be done (scary thought). Gabe took a while to see who Lila really is, she knows things that only Isadora would know, but then again she's a spy. I found his resistance plausible. Would you believe someone who shows up claiming to be the person you loved and lost?
The tension toward the end is quite high as Gabe and Lila figure out who's behind the implants. I couldn't guess who the baddie is until they showed up at the doorstep.
Gabe and Lila are wonderful together. He's cocky, but loyal and protective. She's stronger than she used to be but also vulnerable in many ways. Rafe is a devil child, he's cute but kind of bratty. I love that Nino could take him under his wings.
Overall, a nice conclusion to Gabe's story that I've been waiting years for. I guess you can say it's worth the wait.

Francesca (Chessie) Rossi. Planner. Computer genius and Gabe Rossi's baby sister. Malcolm (Mal) Harris. Ex-con. Former spy and Gabe's friend.
Their paths crossed when their flight to Florida got delayed, and their attraction ignited into a night of pleasure... Until Mal learned of Francesca's last name and bolted from their hotel room.
Little do they know that they're both needed by Gabe to work together to search for his son. We learned from the last book that Gabe had loved and lost a woman, then finding out that he has a son, who is somewhere in Cuba. Only problem is, Gabe can't set foot in Cuba or risk death. So he needs someone who knows Cuba like the back of his hand, and his sister with her computer skills to locate his son.
Mal is an experienced spy. Chessie on the other hand, is a rookie in all things undercover, including one night stands. She may have been raised in a family full of agents/cops/spies but she feels more comfortable in front of a computer. Now she has to use her wit to work with Mal to find her nephew. But how does she feel about working with a former criminal?
This book is packed with tension, emotion and suspense. I liked Mal and Chessie separately and together. Mal thinks that finding his happiness is hopeless while Chessie is determined to help him clear his name from a crime he didn't commit. For a rookie in the field, I thought Chessie handled herself and their dire situations quite well. She was just as badass as her brother!
It was heartbreaking and promising to learn more about Gabe's little family. Which is why I'm diving right into his book next!
Great read. You don't have to read the first book to understand what's going on in this one but it makes a better impact of the characters to read it in order....more

A stormy night. A Nora got her mojo back! Her last couple of standalone books to me were good but they weren't great. This book was better than great!
A stormy night. A root cellar. Her father. A monster. Serial killer. Naomi lost part of her innocence days before she turned 12, discovering a horror within her own family. She saved a young woman's life, which in turn, destroyed the foundation of hers. The 12 year old girl had to be brave and stoic, for her brother, and her mother, who have been so manipulated and controlled by her father that she couldn't see beyond the truth of his actions.
The story follows Naomi from that stormy night through to her high school years, then to Sunrise Cove. A place with a house on a bluff that has possibility and potential to be called her own. Nora written books that involve details of renovating a house and at times, it could be tedious and detract from the story. But in this case, I enjoyed every nuance and change that was happening to the house she bought. It was part of the process of setting roots, creating that foundation again and making something hers. The secondary characters really add strength and charm to the book as we see Naomi build friendships through working on her house.
And then there was Xander and the stray dog that she found by the side of the road. Xander and Tag can both be described as loyal, protective, and dependable. I love the both of them. Tag pretty much stole all the scenes he was in. Seriously. Adorable. The romance between Xander and Naomi was great. I thought they really balanced each other out.
As to the killer, my suspicion clicked immediately as soon as one scene unfolded but that did not make the story any less suspenseful. Nora built up the background and the present events really well and it just drew you in page by page.
A very gripping story that makes it hard to put the book down. Highly recommended!...more

This is another story with the concept of nature vs nurture. In I never get disappointed when I go back into the world of Eve and Roarke, and company.
This is another story with the concept of nature vs nurture. In this case, the nature already stems from evil, and a fatherly obsession that nurtured that evil beyond its scope, honing the skill to kill.
Eve Dallas and the gang has to figure out who these long distance serial killers (LDSK) are before it's too late and the number of deaths rises.
The investigative procedures again, take center stage, and I love seeing the process of it as it unfolds, as Eve, with the help of her genius husband Roarke and his program to find out the killers hideout. It doesn't take long before the bad guys are revealed, however, the motive might make you shake your head in bafflement and ask why? It's a race against time to catch them before more innocent lives are taken.
I enjoyed this installment and as usual cannot wait until the next one. This is one of the books in the series where I would reread based on the procedural a alone aside from its relationships. And of course, Bella steals the show like always. When she kissed Eve's bruise... heart... melted. And when she flirted with Roarke, lol! That kid is going to go places, then again, she's Mavis's daughter, you can't expect any less.

Excellent beginning to the series.
Six months ago, the CDC and its head researcher Lynne Harmony was trying to find a cure for a bacterial contagion found on a meteorite that was unleashed. The bacteria causes fever within hours and a change in the infected person's brain that either enhances some of their intelligence or turn them into sociopaths and serial killers, also known as Rippers. Lynne was infected in the first couple of weeks but she survived, along with having a glowing blue heart.
Now Lynne is on the run from a force that is out to hunt her down and possibly kill her. The bacteria has killed 90% of the population, and what's left of people are scattered around the the states forming rogue groups and gangs made for survival. One of those groups is Vanguard led by Jax Mercury and Lynne is determined to find him and seek his help.
There are rumors that Lynne is dangerous so people are reluctant to get close and risk getting infected. Jax doesn't take anything at face value as he leads a band of people to survive this disease. Knowing Lynne may be able to help find a cure, he gives her his protection. The last thing he expected was to get close or form any kind of relationship, especially during times of war.
As they scavenge for food, weapons and supplies, they must fight off rival gangs and whoever is coming after Lynne.
This is the first book but the prequel Scorpius Rising lays the groundwork of how the disease spread and a little background on Lynne so I recommend reading it first before starting this one.
I really enjoyed the writing, the suspense and intensity in building up the story. There's a sense of urgency as they race against time to find a way out of their dire situation. The members of Jax's group each has secrets and I'm looking forward to finding out what they are....more

Meg Brogan left Shelter Bay two decades ago after the murder of her older sister and the subsequent deaths of her father and mother. Now she's a true crime writer, picking stories she wants to tell. Finding herself difficult to commit to her fiancé, she decides to go back to her roots and tell the story that kept her from really moving on with her life. Meg's memories from the night of her sister murder is blotchy, everything remains blurry with no sense at all. Upon returning, Meg immediately finds herself unwelcome, for there are those who do not want the past and their dirty little secrets revealed. And they will do anything to keep those secrets from unfolding.
Blake Sutton loved Meg when they were younger, he never gotten over her after she abruptly left. As they work together to discover what happened that night, they find themselves in greater danger, especially Meg. And as Meg gets closer to the truth, more key players are exposed, each with a secret they would kill to protect.
My suspicions of each character grew with each chapter and the villain changed quite often until the last third of the book where I kind of keyed into who the actual killer might be. It was fun guessing and the writer did a great job of keeping you guessing. The style and the prose were well written, easy to picture the scenes the words portrayed. The romance is minimal but the story itself is what pulls you in. This is my first book by this author and certainly won't be the last....more

So the stars were casted and scattered across the world until they can be found again to destroy evil.
There were certain elements in this series that were similar to NR previous trilogies. Light versus dark. Good versus evil. Six individuals: three men, three women. But that's where the similarities end.
Sasha Riggs have had recurring dreams about herself and five other people. Always the same people. So she put them on canvas as her gift is to see and art is her expression. There must be a reason for these dreams, so she left her quiet life in North Carolina and flew to Corfu, Greece. And that's where the adventures began.
I say adventure because that's what this book is. It's an adventure, a quest, a journey, to find these individuals who will make up the core group that seek the stars and end evilness once and for all.
Each of the character has a secret and unique abilities that all contribute to the group. It was fascinating learning about each one as you go on. As the characters discover more of one another, we, as a reader do as well. So I thought that was well balanced.
The romance part was fated in a way considering Sasha saw herself in the dreams with Bran, so the love was accepted automatically. I wouldn't quite call it insta-love but more of a recognition/knowing in each other. Bran pushes Sasha in her abilities a bit and she needs that push. She was already brave, she just had to believe in it.
This was a very good start to the series and I'm excited about book 2!

This installment involved Dennis Mira, a beloved character, whom aside from Feeney, I could see as a father figure for Eve.
Dennis is on his way to a house entrusted to him and his cousin, Edward Mira, when he stumbles upon a murder a in progress and was knocked unconscious. When he woke up, he knew who to contact, none other than Eve Dallas herself.
What unfolded behind the motives of these murders drew the fine gray lines to justice, taking the law into ones own hands. One particular scene was super hard to read, and this is one book where it's easy to not sympathize with the murdered victims.
There were many emotional and memorable moments. Some involving Eve and Roarke (plus Galahad), the scene with Eve and Dennis brought me to tears, and then I was crying with laughter when Eve and Peabody found the dolls *shudders*. After this many books though, there's still character growth in Eve which I loved and then seeing how their love grows deeper with understanding and trust warms my soul.
Like the movie Inside Out, this one turned me inside out from all the emotions. Laughter, amusement, sadness, heartwarming, disgust, and anger. It makes you feel it all. There are some books in the series that has scenes where it's hard to go back and re-read due to its sensitive content, and this one will also be one of those. It might be a while before I can even consider of re-reading this one. That being said, Robb delivered another great read, and a book that will make you think about these characters after it's done.

This is a favorite series of mine and I love seeing all the previous characters here again, pulling together to protect one of their own. You learn something new in the characters and it definitely will surprise you.
This is also one of the hottest book in the series. Phew, get me a fan, or better yet, ice cubes. ;)
