I’m telling you I don’t wanna fight anymore, Cell. Even though you’re evil… I really have no desire to kill you.
~ Gohan to Cell

Summary

Son Gohan is the eldest son of Son Goku and Chi-Chi, and one of the primary heroes of the second half of Dragon Ball. Unlike his father, Gohan was a timid and studious child who lacked the Saiyan fighting spirit despite possessing enormous strength inside him. Nonetheless, Gohan spends much of his youth defending Earth with the rest of the heroes, eventually becoming one of the most formidable Z-Fighters. After reaching adulthood in peacetime, he finally fulfils his dream of becoming a scholar.

Attack Potency: Planet level (Shattered Raditz's armor in a rage growing 3x stronger than his father, and after being trained by Piccolo, he became the second strongest of the Z-Fighters present, behind only Piccolo himself. When angry, he was capable of somewhat hurting a casual Nappa[Statistics Values 1]), higher as a Great Ape (10 times stronger than before. Piccolo had to destroy the Moon to stop him, and he injured Vegeta[Statistics Values 2]) | Planet level (Initially stronger than before. After getting his potential unlocked, he grew steadily stronger, approaching Vegeta's power during the Saiyan Arc and surpassing him after getting a Zenkai, becoming increasingly powerful[Statistics Values 3]) to Small Star level (During his rages, he was able to injure Frieza in his Second Form. After another Zenkai, he was able to briefly overwhelm his Third Form. Grew stronger after years of training to face the Androids[Statistics Values 4]) | Large Star level (Is 1/100th the strength of his Super Saiyan 2 self[Statistics Values 5]), Solar System level with Super Saiyan transformations (Superior to Goku as a Super Saiyan in his suppressed calm state. As a Super Saiyan 2 he casually stomped Perfect Cell, easily overpowering his most powerful Kamehameha from a standing position and at the last second[Statistics Values 6]), Varies (The Kamehameha works by condensing one's Ki into a single point, the power of the move proportionally varying depending on how much power is condensed), up to far higher with Kamehameha (His Kamehameha matched Super Perfect Cell's, and then overpowered and completely annihilate his body on a cellular level, despite Cell being utterly superior to Gohan prior, being able to break his arm effortlessly with a simple Ki blast while "fooling around". The Kamehameha can get strong enough to completely annihilate beings far superior to the user) | Large Star level (Is 1/100th the strength of his Super Saiyan 2 self[Statistics Values 7]), Solar System level with Super Saiyan transformations (His power stagnated since the Cell Arc.[39] His power registered far higher than Super Saiyan Goku's[40], though he is a lot weaker than his previous Cell Arc self.[40] Comparable to Dabura[Statistics Values 8]), Varies, up to far higher with Kamehameha | Large Star level, Solar System level with Super Saiyan transformations (Stronger than Shin in base, should be comparable to Goku after training with the Z Sword), far higher after having his potential unlocked (Easily overpowered and toyed with Super Buu, who matched Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks and who should be superior to Super Saiyan 3 Goku[Statistics Values 9]), Varies, up to far higher with Kamehameha

Speed: Relativistic+ combat speed (Faster than Raditz), higher attack speed as a Great Ape | At least Supersonic flight speed (Faster than Krillin who could fly this quickly), FTL+ combat speed (Approaches and surpasses Vegeta's speed during the Saiyan Arc) to Massively FTL+ combat speed (During his rages, he was able to briefly keep up with Frieza) | At least Hypersonic+ flight speed (Faster than Krillin who can fly this quickly), Massively FTL+ combat speed, far higher as a Super Saiyan (Easily kept track of Goku and Cell in their fight, so easily that he thought they weren't fighting seriously), even higher as a Super Saiyan 2 (Effortlessly outpaced Cell and even faster than Super Perfect Cell) | At least Hypersonic+ flight speed, Massively FTL+ combat speed, far higher as a Super Saiyan (His power stagnated since the Cell Arc[39]), even higher as a Super Saiyan 2 (Faster than Super Saiyan Goku) | Massively Hypersonic+ flight speed (Far faster than Gotenks who can fly this quickly), Massively FTL+ combat speed, far higher with Super Saiyan transformations, even higher after having his potential unlocked (Should be comparable to Goku in base, far faster than Super Buu after having his potential unlocked)

Lifting Strength: Unknown

Striking Strength: Planet level,[Statistics Values 1] higher as a Great Ape[Statistics Values 2] | Planet level[Statistics Values 3] to Small Star level[Statistics Values 4] | Large Star level,[Statistics Values 5] Solar System level with Super Saiyan transformations[Statistics Values 6] | Large Star level,[Statistics Values 7] Solar System level with Super Saiyan transformations[Statistics Values 8] | Large Star level, Solar System level with Super Saiyan transformations, far higher after having his potential unlocked[Statistics Values 9]

Durability: Planet level,[Statistics Values 1] higher as a Great Ape[Statistics Values 2] | Planet level[Statistics Values 3] to Small Star level[Statistics Values 4] | Large Star level,[Statistics Values 5] Solar System level with Super Saiyan transformations (Took a blast from Super Perfect Cell, though it broke his arm[Statistics Values 6]) | Large Star level,[Statistics Values 7] Solar System level with Super Saiyan transformations[Statistics Values 8] | Large Star level, Solar System level with Super Saiyan transformations, far higher after having his potential unlocked[Statistics Values 9]

Stamina: Superhuman (Gohan can train for days with minimal rest and continue to fight against opponents such as Frieza and Cell even after being beaten around and essentially tortured. He kept up his battle with Super Buu even as he was overpowered.)

Range: Standard Melee Range, Tens of Meters as a Great Ape, Planetary with ki blasts and attacks | Standard Melee Range, Planetary with ki blasts and attacks | Standard Melee Range, At least Planetary to Stellar (Comparable to Vegeta, whose Final Flash can easily extend into outer space) to Interplanetary with ki blasts and attacks | Standard Melee Range, At least Planetary to Stellar to Interplanetary with ki blasts and attacks

Standard Equipment: None notable

Intelligence: Gifted (While Gohan is not as experienced in combat as his father, he is still a skilled martial artist and an intelligent tactician. Trained in fighting and schooled throughout his entire life since the earliest years of his childhood, Gohan is a clever fighter capable of creatively utilizing his abilities. As a scholar tutored throughout his life, Gohan is competent and insightful, having an in-depth understanding of the metaphysical mechanics of ki itself)

Weaknesses: Gohan has an explosive temper that can flare up suddenly and cause him to act irrationally, but he is generally a pacifist who despises fighting. Due to this, he often keeps his true power restrained to avoid harming others. As a Super Saiyan 2 and after first getting his potential unlocked, Gohan was prone to arrogance, even dipping into ruthlessness during his battle with Cell and seeking to prolong his suffering as retaliation for his crimes. He needs a moon to transform and loses control of himself as a Great Ape. He never trained the weakness away; his tail is a vulnerable point and grabbing or removing it will cause him intense pain.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

The martial artist's fighting power and life force, substantial energy derived from the user's vigor, courage, and mind. Along with his Saiyan blood, Ki acts as the source of Gohan's incredible power and abilities. It can be used in several ways, such as to surpass the limits of one's body to increase strength immensely. It can be fired as blasts of energy or create defensive barriers. Gohan also had tremendous latent potential that could be unleashed whenever he felt intense anger. Even after getting his potential unlocked twice, Gohan still had room to grow further in power.

  • Masenko (閃光せんこう Masenkō?) Gohan's original signature technique, which he learned from Piccolo. After placing both hands above his head with his palms facing his opponents, he fires a powerful ki blast. He can also throw it as an explosive energy sphere by charging it longer.
  • Kamehameha (かめはめ?): Goku's signature technique, which Gohan learned from his father during their training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Gohan's most powerful and famous use of this technique is the Father-Son Kamehameha, utilized alongside his father's spirit to destroy Cell for good.
  • Kiai (気合きあ?): The ability to project an invisible burst of force with ki, which Gohan can perform with his hands.

The physiology of an aggressive warrior race of conquerors. Aside of their immense combat talent, Saiyans have the natural ability to control ki and to fly. While his lifespan is comparable to that of a human, Gohan will remain at his peak strength for much longer. A Saiyan's propensity to get stronger via battle allows Gohan to push his limitations continuously and reach new heights of strength. When Gohan recovers from a severe injury, this trait will significantly increase his power.

  • Great Ape (大猿おおざる Ōzaru?): When exposed to the light of the full moon, as long as he still has his tail, Gohan will transform into the Great Ape, a massive, gigantic monkey with far greater power. However, this comes at the expense of his skill, turning him into a violent, mindless monster who cannot differentiate between friend and foe.
  • Template:Nihonog: The mythical transformation of a Saiyan that enables them to dramatically exceed their limitations and attain the fabled state of a Super Saiyan. Gohan attained this form while practicing in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with his father. These transformations are possible only after experiencing and regulating great emotional upheaval. They cause the user to become more violent and vicious due to Saiyans' inherent aggression. Though Gohan's human side and training enable him to transcend this nature, his first transformation into a Super Saiyan 2 resulted in him developing a cruel streak due to profoundly intense anger. While super Saiyan transformations are powerful, they use great energy. The first was inefficient until Gohan attained mastery of the condition and became a "Full Power Super Saiyan," enabling him to sustain it passively.

Gohan's ultimate form gained after having his final potential unlocked by Old Kai's lengthy ritual. It vastly increases his power by opening his dormant strength. This state surpasses the strength of Super Saiyan 3 Goku and even Gotenks. In this form, Gohan is often known as Mystic Gohan or Ultimate Gohan.

Notes/Explanations

  • This profile strictly uses the original manga for scaling the characters. Please don't try to use feats or statements from Dragon Ball Kai to upgrade them, as Kai contains contradictions to the source material.
  • It should also be noted that the difference between the lowest and highest bounds of Solar System level is roughly a trillion times, making it incredibly inconsistent for even the strongest Buu Saga characters to be listed as anything more than 4-B.
