Fungus? Alive? Why you-no matter...I won't let anything stand in my way...King Koopa will live! Fungus Won't! Hehehehehe...HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!...hehe. ...HEE!
~ Kamek before the final battle with Toad.
Hehehe... foolish little fungus. Did you really that I would entrust the actual Starsphere to such an incompetent underling? I, Kamek, have the real thing. Come if you dare!
~ Kamek revealing that he has the last Starsphere.

Kamek is the main antagonist of the 2007 Mario fangame Toad Strikes Back. He's the leader of the Koopa Clan who stole the Starspheres in an attempt to resurrect King Koopa. He is the descendant of the original Kamek and Toad's archenemy.

Appearance[]

Like his ancestor, Kamek is a Magikoopa who is dressed in blue robes with white and wears a blue wizard hat and round glasses. He's often seen riding a straw broom. When he transforms, Kamek becomes taller and starts wearing a black cape with a star motif, complete with a pin that resembles a star. He wears a red gem necklace and wields a long silver staff with a rainbow gem on top and a red gem making up the tip at the bottom. In his transformed state, Kamek is surrounded by a trio of colored shapes: A blue triangle, a red circle and a yellow square. When he's at his last hit, Kamek's robes and hat become red.

Personality[]

Kamek is an ambitious and fanatical Magikoopa. He'll do anything to revive King Koopa and will kill anyone who stands in his way, this including Toad himself. He's full of pride as he thinks that Toad will never stop him, laughing at him while sending his minions to kill him. Kamek isn't the best boss, to say the least. He disregards one of his Hammer Bros getting killed by a Bullet Bill prior to Mount Vulcan's boss fight and insults a Goomba for being weak before transforming him into a boss late in the game.

Synopsis[]

Prior to the events of the game, Kamek would steal the Starspheres, so he could use them to resurrect King Koopa. Hearing about this, Toad goes on a quest to stop him once and for all. Throughout Toad's adventure, Kamek often shows up to taunt Toad before sending one of them to fight him. They each drop one of the Starspheres when they're defeated.

In the final stage of the game, "Koopa Curse", Kamek sends a Goomba to fight Toad, annoyed that he's the only one that he can use to guard the last Starsphere. However, as it turns out, that Starsphere was actually and Kamek reveals that the real one is with him, forcing Toad to go and find him in the upper half of the stage. When Toad reaches him, Kamek powers himself up to fight Toad. However, Toad ultimately defeats the Magikoopa and retrieves the last Starsphere.

Even though Kamek has died, it's revealed that he actually succeeded in reviving King Koopa in the game's final secret stage "Showdown on the Bridge". Even then, Toad defeats the Koopa king, saving the Mushroom Kingdom for real.

Trivia[]

  • Kamek references the the concept of worlds twice in the latter half of the game.
  • The theme that plays during the fight with Kamek is a remix of Fight Against an Armed Boss from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
    • Ironically, Kamek's final form also bears resemblance to the appearance he takes while brainwashed in that game.
