“ | We shall cleanse this world! | „ |
~ Herobrine to the zombies. |
“ | You primitive creatures. You cannot understand. You cannot understand what I am doing. You don't even understand what you are doing. What you are doing to each other... That the very action you are taking, is leading to the very destruction of your home. So what am I to do? To be a god that accepts your suffering? That accepts you harming each other endlessly? To just stand there? And do nothing? No... No, I choose to help you. Even if you reject me. Even if you don't understand. I will help you. For isn't this what a loving god should do? | „ |
~ Herobrine talking about his motives. |
“ | What you call evil... Is my greatest love for you. So let me ask you. Am I really an evil god? Is that how you see me? What would you do? What would you do if you had my power? How would you use it? Can't you understand me? I just wanted you to stop suffering. That's why I use my power. My power to control you. So you can finally stop hurting yourself. Can't you see... This was my only choice! | „ |
~ Herobrine telling his vessels that he only wanted to love and protect them. |
Herobrine, also known as The White-Eyed Demon, is the overall main antagonist of the animated action-comedy Minecraft YouTube series Annoying Villagers.
He is a creator that interjects himself during the war between the villagers and players, seeing an opportunity to became the new god of the world and bring around a new age of peace and prosperity out of love for the creatures of the world. Herobrine is known throughout the world in legends as a demonic being that wields strange, supernatural powers and can control an arsenal of various creatures. He is also capable of resurrecting dead players and adding them to his ever-expanding army, which he primarily uses to gather information.
He acts as the hive mind for the Herobrine Vessels and is the arch-nemesis of Steve.
Personality[]
“ | Sometimes love has to be cruel. | „ |
~ Herobrine |
Although he has only spoken directly on rare occasions, Herobrine shares a collective consciousness with vessels as he is their hive mind. When his vessels do speak, they speak as Herobrine due to sharing his consciousness.
Although a lot of vessels act differently, they never stray far from Herobrine's true nature, that of a conniving, wicked, intelligent, twisted, intimidating, megalomaniacal and sadistic figure to all who know his tale. Herobrine is usually a very quiet, calm and reserved individual who keeps to himself and doesn't like to waste time, as he is more interested and preoccupied with planning attacks and expanding his army. Although he rarely shows it, Herobrine can become unusually aggressive at times, such as when he was talking over the phone with the witch, yelling at him to kill the players before abruptly hanging up. He is also not afraid to take matters into his own hands, sending in his doppelgangers into battle if necessary.
One of Herobrine's most glaring traits is his extreme narcissistic egomania. Due to his immense power and (in his own twisted mind) noble goals, Herobrine has developed an intense superiority complex, believing himself to be the one who will bring about the salvation of humanity and establish a peaceful order over the world where he rules as its new god. Despite how extreme his methods are and the numerable atrocities he has committed, Herobrine genuinely believes that he is benevolent, and speaks akin to a zealot when rambling about his plans for the future. It appears as though Herobrine doesn't care about the countless amount of lives he has and will sacrifice for what he believes to be the greater good, as he is completely lost in his delusions of power and world peace. Herobrine also possess a Darwinian view on life, believing that "the old must make way for the new" and that ignorant leaders must be replaced by people who are stronger in body, will and raw power.
Herobrine truly believes his ideology and that what he is doing is good, as he explains to Chris, Herobrine only wanted to love the creatures he helped to protect, and that his actions are motivated out of love for the players and to stop them from fighting, understanding that they were hurting and confused and just needed guidance. While having noble intentions, Herobrine's own compassion has lead him to take drastic measures in order to ensure the survival of the world. Although Herobrine doesn't display arrogance or more extreme parts of his personality shared by his vessels, his vessels are extensions of himself due to being connected to Herobrine's hive mind and sharing his mind, which is best shown during the "bringer of peace" monologue, where multiple vessels speak collectively as "I".
Biography[]
Early Life[]
In the past, Herobrine was a creator who observed the players and saw that despite being given this world, they were suffering and felt alone in the world. Herobrine, wanting to help, began to help the creatures of Minecraft through subtle ways such as leaving chests with items inside for them to plant the seed for their journey. Despite helping them, Herobrine wished to teach the players and hoped that they loved their world as much as he loved them so they would stop suffering and be happy.
As tension began rising between players due to their differing views, Herobrine looked and saw that their attacks were just cries for help, and that they were confused, thinking that if they couldn't ask for help, hurting others would solve their problems. Understanding them, Herobrine began to help them, but was rejected numerous times. Herobrine decided to force his help onto the players even if they rejected him, one of his methods being to send a horde of zombies to attack a village, despite knowing the suffering he would cause, Herobrine believed he was doing the responsible thing, but still vowed to find a solution to solve their problems, and that the players would have to endure his methods.
Building his army[]
At some point during the conflict between the villagers and players, legends began to spread among players about an alleged "White-Eyed Demon" roaming the land. Many players was simply an attention-seeking hacker or an extremely powerful virus that went unchecked by the creators of Minecraft. Multiple variations of the legend exist, ranging from Herobrine only attacking players or only attacking villagers, but no matter the story, no one really knew where he came from, what he is or what his goals were.
At some point, Herobrine was responsible for saving a group of zombies from an XP farm, informing them that they would cleanse the world. Herobrine taught the zombies how to fight and survive, and began sending them out on missions.
At an unspecified point in time, Herobrine was made aware of Notch's plan to send a group of players to his island to eliminate the hostile mobs and their spawners. Herobrine prepared the mobs with special armor and weapons and sent them out to defeat the players.
It turns out the players were Steve, Chris and Greg, who had been chosen by Notch to be Minecraft's protectors. The mobs easily overpowered Greg and Chris but were unable to catch up to Steve, who had been sent away on a boat by Chris before being killed. Steve witnessed the mobs toss Chris and Greg's corpses to the ground and stood aside to make way for Herobrine, who resurrected both of them, turning them into his doppelgangers as Steve watched in horror. This event would traumatize Steve and lead to him and Herobrine becoming mortal enemies, with Steve seeking to hunt down and get revenge on Herobrine for the death of his friends and Herobrine seeking to finish what he started.
However, one of his soldiers, Blue Demon, betrayed Herobrine after realizing he was merely a tool for Herobrine to use for his selfish intentions and to finally be free and live his life, becoming a major threat to Herobrine's forces.
Being Heard[]
Some time after Chris was possessed, Herobrine manifested in his mind and explained that the players could not understand what both Herobrine and the players themselves are doing, and that he cannot sit by as a god and watch them suffer and accept the endless violence. Herobrine stated that even if the players couldn't understand and rejected him, he would continue to help them, as any loving god would do. Chris agreed to answer, but first requested to hear Herobrine's story, nearly bringing him to tears, as no one had asked him about his past up until this point.
As Herobrine explained his past, he told Chris that he only wanted to protect the players from harm and watch them flourish, and that they're violence was the result of not being heard, which Herobrine understood. Herobrine told Chris and several other possessed players that he hopes that one day they will realize that all of his actions were done for them, and that he wished he didn't have to make them suffer. Herobrine told the players that what they perceived as evil is Herobrine's greatest love for them. Herobrine then asked them if they believed he was evil, and how they would use his powers if given his responsibilities. Herobrine admitted that he controlled the players so they would stop hurting each other, and angrily exclaimed that it was his only choice, and that Chris should tell Herobrine he's wrong before yelling at Chris to explain it to him, as be began to glitch. Chris realized Herobrine and Steve had similar goals, but went about doing them in different ways, and admitted that although he was unsure what he would do in Herobrine's position, he would share his responsibility with everyone else in the world.
Hunting Steve[]
Many years later during the war between the villagers and the players, Herobrine finally enacted on his plans and put them into motion. Herobrine stayed in his fortress for some time. He was later told by his servant, the witch, that zombies were conspiring with villagers against a player named MrFudgeMonkeyz, and Herobrine ordered the witch to tell the zombies to kill the villagers with a convincing message. Herobrine's order was able to turn the zombies against the villagers, who were capturing MrFudgeMonkeyz, but he realized the zombies were taken out by Steve.
Herobrine ordered the Witch and some of the witch's minions to eliminate Steve, MrFudgeMonkeyz, and the villagers. When the witch's attempts to kill the gang was taking too long, Herobrine made a phone call with the witch and ordered him to finish them. The witch, however, failed, and the witch's many attempts were also failed. Tired of these constant failures, Herobrine sent in the resurrected Chris to deal with Steve while he continued planning.
Observing[]
During the battle between Armored Herobrine and Boop (with the assistance of Notch), Herobrine views the situation through Armored Herobrine when Boop does his "Super Mega Ultimate" move on the former. Herobrine questions why Notch and Boop possess so much power, and how they will inevitably lead the world to its destruction.

I would watch and watch, looking at everything you creatures did, and trying to understand. I saw many things. I saw, many of you were suffering. That you were crying. That you felt all alone. I wanted to help. So I offered my help in subtle ways. Not enough to be intrusive, but just enough I thought to give you direction. To simply plant the seed, you could overcome the obstacles you face. I remember, I was always wishing, wishing to teach you, to show you all. Trivia[]
- Before being confirmed, it was heavily speculated and implied that Herobrine was also a creator (mainly due to his immense power), which would lend more credibility to his claims of being a god.
- Sure enough, this theory would be proven true in episode 51, where Herobrine revealed his origins.
- Despite being the main antagonist of the entire series, Herobrine has little physical appearances, mainly appeared in flashbacks, and an unseen appearance in episode 6, while his clones have been doing his dirty work as he operates behind the scenes.
- It was speculated that Herobrine and Reaper Herobrine were one and the same, due to Reaper Herobrine being arguably the most powerful member of Herobrine's forces and being the one who directly trains and commands his minions.
- This was proven false in episode 51.
