Doctor Magnos is the main antagonist of the 2024 HuxRen's Disneyverse feature Princess and The Frog.
He is a power hungry witch doctor who used certain events in order to take control of New Orleans first, and then the world itself. He is also Lawrence's boss, the former partner of his "Friends On The Other Side", the manipulator for both Baron Luke Hemsworth and Count Denforth of Britain, and the archenemy of Tara Hemsworth and Prince Naveen.
He is based on Doctor Facilier from the original Disney film. He is portrayed by Alex Pettyfer, who also played as Damian Carpenter in The Godfather fanfilms, William Weller in Auguste Gusteau as well as Emmanuel Macron from The Messiah, and will portray Xarus Dong from the MFU.
History[]
Doctor Magnos was a witch doctor who learnt Voodoo for purposes of gaining power and achieving world dominance as a final goal. He had debts to pay his shadow demons known as the "Friends From The Other Side" due to failing on missions which were part of his deal with them of achieving power.
As seen in the book about the prince and the "Shadow Man", Magnos came to meet the British aristocrat and traitor Count Denforth, who was bloodthirsty and wanted to overthrow Naveen for power and money, and he actually convinced and manipulated that warlord to invade Nareen's castle and kill him unless he gets out of the country by boat. As part of the plan, Magnos took the opportunity to use his boat and offer Naveen a drive after he and his advisor Lawrence ran away from their own British guards.
Doctor Magnos took the two to New Orleans, knowing that Naveen was going there anyway in order to meet and later marry the Baroness Tara Hemsworth, who was the daughter of the famous monarch, Baron Luke Hemsworth. The doctor however warned Prince Naveen and Lawrence that for their trip, they will need to pay a rather high price. He explained that he is going to use a voodoo spell, to make Naveen the richest aristocrat who ever walked the planet. However, he lied to Naveen, and when the spell began, Naveen turned into a frog infront of Lawrence, Magnos and the shadow demons. Doctor Magnos then sadistically remarked he is going to sell a frog in New Orleans.
Lawrence felt guilt for enjoying Magnos' act of terror towards Naveen, but Magnos convinced Lawrence to turn into a "Fake Naveen", so they can both become powerful people. Lawrence was happy to do that.
As Fake Naveen, Lawrence tried to win the heart of Tara at all costs. However, Magnos attempted behind everyone's back to manufacture the dragon flower for Tara so Lawrence can bring it to her before the real Naveen, who is now a frog prince. Naveen however took it from Lawrence, thus he won Tara's heart. Lawrence in retaliation and vengeance lied to Luke that his daughter is playing with a dirty, plague bringing frog, as Luke believed Fake Naveen was the real prince of Britain. Meanwhile, Doctor Magnos vowed to get his revenge on the frog who was the real Prince Naveen. Magnos reminded them of their deal, again promising and reassuring he will take over the world, and let the demons consume all souls on Earth when he is in control. Therefore, the demons give him a staff of very dark magic powers so he can use it for finishing his current mission and finally achieving his goals. Magnos orders the demons to capture the frog out of spite and vengeance. Once the shadow demons capture Naveen and bring him so Magnos can take care of him ruthlessly, Magnos uses the power of the staff to make Naveen float where he wants him to float in the air. Naveen asks him angrily what he did to make things with Doctor Magnos personal, to which the ruthless witch doctor answered the one who wanted to make things personal was Lawrence. Lawrence revealed himself to be Fake Naveen all along, as he wanted to overthrow Naveen, take over New Orleans under Magnos' guidance, and stop Naveen from further humiliating him. Naveen is surprised but nonetheless angry at Lawrence for his betrayal. Magnos then manipulates Luke into believing the frog is dirty and "plague bringing", letting the monarch order the guards to lock the princess and baroness up until she marries Fake Naveen/Lawrence, while still denying the truth.
However, in the castle after Tara is locked up by the guards, Lawrence reveals his true form and purpose to Luke Hemsworth. He almost kills Luke with a sword, but Luke takes the sword from him and stabs him with it. Meanwhile, Magnos orders the demons to consume the souls of New Orleans, thus being responsible for thousands of people losing their lives and being damned by the demonic liches. He then uses his staff's magic powers to torture and eventually kill Naveen in a very ruthless and painful way. However, after he manages to do so, Tara comes to try and save Naveen. She reminds Magnos that the staff cannot overcome or defeat her when she and Naveen feel true love for each other. The staff is then broken and for his failure and him not keeping his part of the deal, the demons then turn on Doctor Magnos, thus killing him ruthlessly and letting the lightning directly strike his corpse, causing it to burn and dissolve.
Personality[]
Doctor Magnos is a brilliant and sophisticated, yet a ruthless, megalomaniacal, tyrannical, sadistic and bloodthirsty witch doctor. Coming with good manners and seemingly offering Naveen all he needed, specifically offering him along with Lawrence an escape on a boat from Count Denforth's wrath and even a spell which could make Naveen a rich ruler, it turns out after a few good minutes that it was all a facade. He turned Naveen into a frog in order to complete his plans, and becomes vengeful towards Naveen after he, now transformed into a frog, ruins Magnos and Lawrence's plans with the baroness Tara Hemsworth.
Magnos is ambitious, wanting to rule the entire world and achieving world dominance by killing hundreds of thousands of people at the very least during the Great War in the past, while killing thousands much later in his life in New Orleans by feeding them to his shadow demon henchmen. Eventually, after his staff breaks and love wins him, the demons turn on him and he finally pays his price.
Trivia[]
- Despite being based on Doctor Facilier, he is very different than the original character, as the two stories are very different and the new fanfilm is not even a little bit similar to the original work.
- Doctor Magnos' final words to Naveen about him remaining a frog for the rest of his life, were pretty much the same as what Doctor Facilier told Tiana as his last words in the original work.
- Originally, John Boyega would play as Facilier. However, the creator of the movie thought of an original character to fight racism.
