Thordak: (
chuckling) Let them. A new army awaits. An army that will soon inherit this world and bring glory to the Chroma Conclave.

Appearance[]

Vorugal is a gargantuan white dragon with large wing membranes that strand from his shoulders to both sides of the tip of his tail. He had many thick spiky protrusions along his body that resemble chunks of ice. He has yellow eyes that occasionally glow blue,.more than often from casting magic.

Biography[]

Background[]

Vorugal used to wander around the wasteland of Othanzia. He fathered children, one of which was slain by Vox Machina. It is unknown if Vorugal ever learned of this event. Vorugal eventually met and joined the Chroma Conclave some time after that.

Critical Role[]

Vorugal, along with the rest of the Chroma Conclave attacked and rampaged Emon, personally destroying Lady Allura's tower.

Vorugal flew to Greyskull Keep and battled with Vox Machina when they were trying to save evacuating citizens. Vox Machina manage to escape, but Vorugal kills many of the refugees with his ice breath.

Later on, Vox Machina allies with the Ravenites as well as Raishan. Vox Machina encountered Vorugal once again, this time Raishan fighting against him for her own reasons. Pike used a radiant fist to punch Vorugal out of the air. Raishan fought Vorugal when he got back up. Vex eventually fatally shot Vorugal in the heart. Vorugal was dying anyway, but Raishan ripped his throat out to further his demise.

The Legend of Vox Machina[]

Vorugal is first seen attacking Emon with the rest of the Chroma Conclave, (Save Brimscythe) destroying a building and killing many soldiers with his ice breath. A few minutes later, he directly attacks Vox Machina. Ignoring Percy's gunfire, he shoots at them with his ice breath, only for Gilmore to shield them. Gilmore later has the party transported far away from Emon, but Vorugal manages to track them down thanks to a long line of refugees that headed for their keep. Vorugal kills most of the refugees, but Keyleth manages to transport herself, her allies, and the the rest of the survivors to Whitestone. Vorugal informs Thordak of this when he returns to Emon, offering to correct his mistake, but Thordak simply tells him to stick to finding treasure to increase their hoard.

Later on, Vorugal is seen delivering a chest full of treasure to Thordak, informing him that Vox Machina had slain Umbrasyl and that they just might come for them next. Thordak is unmoved by this however, as he had been making an army of his own; incubating a clutch of eggs the Cinder King laid.

When Vox Machina attempts to infiltrate Thordak's nest after being given information on his clutch of eggs, Vorugal fights beside the red dragon, forcing the group to flee despite their best efforts. The incident enrages Thordak, and Vorugal takes the opportunity to offer his skills to hunt Vox Machina down. Raishan counters this, saying her skills are better, but Thordak threatens her giving her two days to find Vox Machina, and informing Vorugal to spread the word that if she fails, any bounty hunter or mercenary that succeeds will gain Raishan's share of the Chroma Conclave's new kingdom. Vorugal then sets out to enforce the red dragon's command.

The white dragon then arrives at Draconia, where he has been alerted to Vox Machina's presence by the dragonborn mage Dohla, having allied with Vorugal in exchange for Raishan's position. The two initially managed to chase part of the group, consisting of Vex'alia, Percy de Rolo, Allura Vysoren and her wife Kima and corner them, but when Dohla became fed up with the lack of bloodshed for their perceived betrayal, she insulted Vorugal, calling him stupid. This proved a fatal mistake, as Vorugal decided to eat Dohla alive, swallowing her whole in a spray of blood. Vox Machina then managed to get away, back to the gateway to Hell where the rest of the team had gone.

Vorugal pursued and found them just as team members Keyleth, Vax'ildan, Pike Trickfoot, Grog Strongjaw, and Scanlan Shorthalt escaped, a demon archfiend named Yenk hot on their tail. Upon meeting, Vorugal, ever the glutton for a challenge, fought Yenk one-on-one. The battle collapsed the entrance to the gateway to Hell, with the dragon getting his chest pierced and part of his tongue ripped off by the archfiend before they took their battle into the sky and open ground. There, the white dragon gained the upper hand, ripping off Yenk's left arm before finishing the battle by biting Yenk's throat and breathing ice into the wound as Vox Machina waited nearby to finish off the victor. Relishing his victory over the demon, Vorugal, exhausted, stomped on Yenk's head killing him.

This was where Kima, wielding her hammer and Scanlan's vestige, the sword Mythcarver, led Allura and Vox Machina into the fight, with Keyleth and Vex firing enchanted arrows using the Fenthras bow into the dragon's open wound while Grog held him down using the Titanstone Knuckles. The arrows caused a tree to grow around Vorugal's heart, slowly and brutally immobilizing and suffocating him, leaving him conscious log enough for Kima to finish the Frigid Doom by slamming her mystical hammer into his eye.

With Vorugal dead, Thordak, furious, was quick to turn to Anna Ripley, who suggested the Cinder King's offspring attack Whitestone as retaliation for this defeat.

Personality[]

Befitting a white dragon, Vorugal was very bestial and barbaric in nature. He was fit for carrying out simply tasks like hunting and pillaging, which he greatly enjoyed, leaving scheming to the more intelligent dragons like Raishan. Despite all this, he was envious of his comrades' greater strength and power, and probably had an inferiority complex.

Despite this, he was strictly loyal to Thordak as he addressed him respectfully strictly as "My King" rather than his name like Raishan & Umbrasyl have as well as the fact that he offered to fix his mistakes whenever things did not go to plan.

Powers and Abilities[]

In addition to his intense strength, Vorugal is capable of seeing through magical illusions, likely having magical capabilities of his own. He also has cold breath, known as a cryogenic attack, that can create freeze things solid. The impact of this breath can kill people instantly and destroy structures.

Quotes[]

Thordak: Did you dispatch them?
Vorugal: Most, but a group escaped with magic. They could gather forces against us. Let me go after them.
Thordak: No, Vorugal, keep to the plan. Plunder this land, and bring me its spoils.
Umbrasyl: And me, my king? Westruun's teeming with gold.
Thordak: Then you shall plate for me. And once you have, Umbrasyl, hunt down those vermin, show them the wrath of the Chroma Conclave.
Umbrasyl: With pleasure.

Allura: Dohla! (
blast a magic to stop Vorugal to no avail because she's not fast enough)
Dohla: No!
~ Vorugal ends his situational partnership with Dohla before chomping her for insulting him.

Trivia[]

  • For his appearance in The Legend of Vox Machina, Vorugal received a redesign to make his appearance more distinct as with other members of Chroma Conclave. In this case, he has more robust physique and his head possesses a single large rhinoceros-like horn as opposed of Parasaurolophus-esque crest. He is also comparable to Umbrasyl and Raishan in size.
  • In the campaign and by extent the TV series, Vorugal was one of only two dragons in the Chroma Conclave to have children: his daughter, Skysunder, was also killed by Vox Machina.
  • Vorugal was also courting a female white dragon named Gelidon, the Nightmare in Ivory, at the time of his death. Gelidon has since sworn revenge.
