Leave us be, Ashen One. Sweep all thought of us from thy mind. As thy kind always have.
~ Sister Friede to the Ashen One.

Sister Friede (born Elfriede) is the main antagonist and (alongside Father Ariandel) final boss fight of the Ashes of Ariandel DLC expansion for the 2016 action role-playing dark fantasy video game Dark Souls III.

She is a powerful and dark Ashen One and the ruler of the Painted World of Ariandel along with Father Ariandel. Friede is a human who wears a grey and white dress. In combat, she wields one scythe in the first and second phases, and two scythes in the third phase.

She was voiced by Amara Karan.

Biography[]

Sister Friede is an Ashen One, suggesting that she attempted to link the First Flame or usurp it but failed, resulting in her being resurrected as ash. Having abandoned the Sable Church, she happened upon Ariandel's Painted World. There, she tricked Father Ariandel by convincing him that the only way to preserve the Painted World was by suppressing the fire with his own blood to prevent it from being burned to the ground and resulting in the rot that afflicts it.

Despite giving ample warning, Sister Friede is ultimately forced to wield her scythe and confront the meddling Ashen One, not before asking the good Father to turn his gaze away from the imminent carnage. When she collapses the first time, an enraged Ariandel sparks the flame he bled so much to prevent the fire's spread in a desperate attempt to revive her. Now rekindled, Friede comes back from death to fight by his side. After falling a second time, Friede rises yet again and tinges her flame black with the Dark in one final struggle to defeat the Ashen One and prevent the painted world from being eventually replaced with a new one.

Powers and Abilities[]

Sister Friede has a variety of attacks starting with slight cutting attacks and then unsuspecting attacks of invisibility, besides freezing the floor and making crystals of ice from the ground. During the third phase, she starts to use black fire attacks and some of her attacks gain an increased area of effect. She is also shown to gain more aggression as well.
