Nutty is one of the main protagonists of the Happy Tree Friends series.
He is not exactly evil, and in most episodes, he can be friendly, more so mentally ill, crazy or mischievous. However, he is known to occasionally be selfish and antagonistic towards others, due to his addiction to sugar.
His addiction has put his and other characters' lives at risk, and he is shown to care more about getting sugary treats than others injuries (such as when he causes Cub to get his face ripped off).
His name comes from sugar making him crazy or “nutty”.
He was voiced by Michael "Lippy" Lipman.
Appearence[]
Nutty is a lime squirrel with mismatched eyes and a large tail. His body is covered in sweets, including a big swirly lollipop, candy cane, small all-day sucker, and a candy apple stuck to his fur.
History[]
Nutty first appeared in the episode "Nuttin Wrong with Candy" in which he tried to get a candy bar out of the machine and ended up being gruesomely killed.
He is depicted as having a strong sweet tooth as he even uses candy for other things such as brushing his teeth with a lollipop and rinsing it out with soda and makes coffee with jellybeans instead of coffee beans.
Nutty's addiction usually leads to him killed or other killed due to caring more about candy than his friends.
In False Alarm, after being crushed by candy from a truck, Nutty was sent to an asylum and cured of his addiction. However, Lifty and Shifty offered him some video games and he became hooked on them for a year. Eventually he regained his sugar addiction.
Villainous Actions[]
- Sweet Ride: He chases after Cuddles for his ice cream cone.
- Class Act: Causes an explosion alongside Lumpy, The Mole, Sniffles, Toothy, Giggles, Flaky, Lifty, and Shifty. He also eats part of Sniffles’s body after mistaking him for a candy cane.
- Icy You: Tries to shoplift candy from a store and drinks out of the slushie machine while the clerk (Lumpy) was unable to move.
- Party Animal: When Flaky suffers an allergic reaction to peanuts, he takes her chocolate kisses instead of helping her. He then causes her second allergy reaction, indirectly causing Flippy to flip out and kill everyone except Flaky and the Mole.
- Concrete Solution: He steals a bag of sugar from a cafe. Due to a mix up, a constructed bridge gets made with the sugar instead of cement, and Nutty unintentionally causes the deaths of himself and numerous drivers.
- Chew Said a Mouthful: Kidnaps Toothy in order to grab the jawbreaker out of his eye socket that was accidentally inserted there during surgery. He ends up killing several characters, among them Toothy and himself.
- A Sucker For Love: Steals Cub's lollipop just because he "falls in love" with it. After fighting Pop over it, the lollipop lands on Cub's face and, after it rips off and falls down a cliff, Nutty follows. He also imagines murdering Lumpy for eating his chocolate.
- False Alarm: After being locked in an insane asylum, he gets addicted to video games. Following this, he carjacks Cuddles, runs over Petunia and smashes the Mole, thinking that he was playing video games.

- Despite being a squirrel, Nutty's behavior, mainly his sugar addiction, is more akin to a sugar glider.
- Nutty is a playable character in the video game Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm!.
- In Nuttin' Wrong with Candy, From Hero to Eternity, Chew Said a Mouthful, A Sucker for Love Part 2, and False Alarm, Nutty can be seen without all of his candy.
- After Nutty gets killed in A Sight for Sore Eyes, Russell mistakes his googly eye for his contact lens. After putting it on, Russell sees his kite's ribbons as being made of candy. This is evidence that Nutty may see everything as candy because of his eyes, meaning that his problem is at least partially physical, instead of purely psychological as was previously believed.
- He has a low attention span and gets distracted easily, implying that he might have ADHD.
- He has rabies.
- His lip-smacking noise was created by his voice actor sucking his thumb.
- He sometimes spins around like the Tasmanian Devil or makes jackhammer noises after he eats sugar.
- In “A Change of Heart”, he was seen waiting in line at a butcher shop, implying that he’s at least willing to try other foods.
- He seems to be friends with Sniffles, since they have been shown together a few times, particularly in “Random Acts of Silence” when Sniffles laughs at his joke.
