Villain Overview

Masked Soldiers (also known as Soldiers or Triangles) are major antagonists of the South Korean Netflix drama series Squid Game. They are mid-ranked Pink Guards and are bound by most of the same rules that Masked Workers are, meaning they cannot remove their masks. They are, however, ranked above the Masked Workers and thus permitted to boss them around and occasionally convey orders to them on behalf of Masked Managers.

Clad in masks with triangle emblems, their role in the Squid Game is to execute players who violate the rules or fail the challenges. As such, unlike the Masked Workers below them, Masked Soldiers carry firearms, most often an automatic weapon (MP5A3) and a revolver (S&W M19) as a sidearm.

In addition to enforcing the rules of the game, Soldiers also serve as bodyguards to the Masked Managers to keep the Players from getting too close.

History[]

During the second round of the game, which involved carving a symbol out of a sugar honeycomb, a number of Masked Soldiers were deployed to guard the round and to execute any players that failed to finish in time or broke their sugar honeycombs.

In between the rounds of the game, one Masked Manager, two Masked Soldiers, and with Masked Workers 28 and 29, were involved in an organ-harvesting ring that sold off organs from dead players to China. To harvest the organs, the Soldiers recruited Byeong-gi, a doctor who had been selected for the game, trading him information they received about each round in exchange for his help in harvesting the organs. After Byeong-gi passed the information off to Jang Deok-su, who used it to win the third round of the game, the Front Man began to suspect someone was cheating and withheld information about the next round of the game from the lower ranks until it started. This meant the two Masked Soldiers did not receive information about what the fourth round would be and thus had nothing to pass off to Byeong-gi in exchange for his help, causing him to turn on them. It was then that the Front Man discovered what was going on and executed the Soldiers, Byeong-gi, and everyone else involved in the ring before hanging their corpses out as a warning to anyone who thought of cheating.

When it was discovered that detective Hwang Jun-ho had infiltrated the island and gathered evidence, several Masked Soldiers accompanied Front Man as he went out to deal with the intruder.
