“ | Do you think it's easy to get a ten-billion-won loan? They don't lend that kind of money to just anyone! Only to those who are capable of paying it back. | „ |
~ Im Jeong-dae telling the players how he lost ten billion won. |
Im Jeong-dae (Korean: 임정대), also known as Player 100, is a major antagonist in Season 2 of Netflix's South Korean survival thriller series Squid Game. He is a former businessman who has incurred a humongous debt and participates in the 2024 Squid Game to pay it off.
During the games, he is hell-bent on winning the prize money, encouraging the death of players to make the amount of money rise. He is also highly against the vote to end the games, persuading players to vote "O" to continue the games whenever there is a vote. He also becomes a prominent member of Team O.
He is portrayed by Song Young-chang.
Biography[]
Im Jeong-dae is a former businessman with a debt of 10 billion won who entered the Squid Games to pay off the debts, it is presumably that he did greedy or shady practices which led to this though this hasn't been proven yet.
He played Red Light, Green Light as the first challenge. He took no notice of Seong Gi-hun warning of the consequences of getting eliminated until people started going down in gunfire around him. All the players event followed Gi-hun’s orders and formed multiple straight lines to avoid being caught by the motion-tracking system of the snipers.
During the voting, Im Jeong-dae aggressively questioned Gi-hun for wanting to end the games, as he believed Gi-hun works with the Squid Game, being able to spin his comments against the game in his favour and having several people try to use Gi-Hun's knowledge to get a piece of the pie in beating the game. He became a prominent member of Team O, voting for the games to continue solely to pay off his debt, becoming a cold-blooded person.
Personality[]
Jeong-dae is first and foremost a very greedy man. He is one of the first to encourage other players to vote O in order to continue playing games and win more money. He seems to see very little value in human life, as he was disappointed that so many people were still alive after the second games, putting his own monetary gain above the well-being of others. His aggression is also apparent during the third game, Mingle, when he yells at another team for unintentionally taking his door.
He didn't trust Seong Gi-hun to begin with and began aggressively accusing him of being fraudulent from the moment he tried to help others, attempting to get the other players to rally alongside him. While he initially takes Gi-hun more seriously after learning he was a former Squid Game player, he still quickly becomes angry when Gi-hun makes a mistake during the second game, believing again that he is trying to trick the other players. He is very egotistical and arrogant, as he consistently insists that his actions are justified, puts his own self-gain above all else, and constantly berates the other players, especially members of Team X and particularly Gi-hun himself. He is also quite charismatic, managing to convince many players to vote O through the confidence with which he sows division between the two teams.
