“ | It has been a while since I have had a visitor. I am quite thrilled. This sorry facility was once the testing ground for the NULL project. New Mecca's most promising soldiers and scientists were run through my gauntlet to ascertain their suitability. Let's see how suitable you are. | „ |
~ Leon's pre-recorded message to Zero upon entering the Slaughterhouse. |
Leon von Alvensleben is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside the Boss) of the 2019 indie action-platformer video game Katana Zero.
He was the creator of Chronos and the NULL project, both of which were used by the New Mecca government to produce supersoldiers to aid in their war against the Cromags. After the war's conclusion and subsequent cancellation of the NULL project, Alvensleben put himself in stasis in a cryotank, presumably to prolong his lifespan.
Biography[]
Past[]
Leon's past and exact connection to New Mecca and its government are unknown, other than the fact that he was presumably employed by said government to aid in the ongoing war efforts against a people known as the Cromags. Around this time, he developed a drug known as "Chronos", which allowed its users to experience a heavily altered perception of time and precognition. With this, he created and oversaw the NULL project, which was run out of a disguised slaughterhouse in the Third District and trained Chronos-users (collectively known as "NULL") into becoming elite supersoldiers dedicated to serving in the New Meccan military. Unfortunately for New Mecca, public opinion soured regarding New Mecca's involvement in the war as protests surrounding the unjust treatment of the Cromag civilians resulted in New Mecca's premature withdrawal from the war, thus claiming defeat despite their apparent technological superiority.
Afterwards, the NULL project was disbanded and all remaining NULL soldiers being released from governmental control. However, the government (and presumably Leon himself) were unaware of the lethal side-effects of Chronos withdrawal, resulting in the vast majority of NULL dying off due to the halt of all Chronos production. During this time, Alvensleben took stasis within a cryotank located beneath the aforementioned slaughterhouse, either to prolong his lifespan or to halt the progress of a deadly clinical condition.
Katana Zero[]
After being informed about the location of Alvensleben by the inmate Fa Yuan, Fifteen contacted fellow NULL mercenary Zero (who was suffering from amnesia and was unaware of his previous relation with the former or his connection to the New Meccan government) to inform him of this new information.
After arriving at the slaughterhouse, Zero was greeted by a pre-recorded greeting previously set up by Alvensleben. With this, the slaughterhouse automatically activates its pre-installed contingency system, effectively transforming the location into an obstacle course in an effort to kill any trespassers. These efforts prove fruitless as Zero is able to bypass all measures to keep him at bay and arrives at Alvensleben's holding containment. Wanting answers surrounding his past or simply out of curiosity, Zero opens Alvensleben's cryotank. Before getting any information out of the startled man, Alvensleben rapidly ages and promptly dies as a result of being forced out of his containment.
Trivia[]
- Alvensleben appears to be skilled with a sniper rifle despite lacking his right arm. However this is debatable as the viewing monitor which showcased him using said firearm were revealed to be pre-recorded.
- He appears to be acquainted with or at least know Josh Rose, a character and target featured earlier within the game. This is revealed in one of his pre-recorded messages in which he addresses Rose, demanding that he return what was stolen from him.
