Hi. This is Thesecret1070. I am an admin of this site. Edit as much as you wish, but one little thing... If you are going to edit a lot, then make yourself a user and login. Other than that, enjoy Villains Wiki!!!
There's an old saying. Enemies can kill you, but only your friends can hurt you. Spider-Man was a thorn in my side. He ticked me off, embarrassed me, infuriated me... but it's Peter who has finally succeeded in hurting me. And there is a price for that, Robbie. There is one hell of a price for that.

Turn on the TV. Go online. Pick up a newspaper. We hate them. We love them. We worship them. We condemn them. Hell, maybe we're the ones who elevate them. Maybe we force them to live like this because we need them to live like this. Maybe the only reason they exist is because we can't solve our own problems.

~ Jameson firing Eddie Brock for falsely evidences on Spider-Man.
John Jonah Jameson Jr., better known as J. Jonah Jameson, is a major character in the Spider-Man franchise.
He is the publisher and editor-in-chief of Now Magazine, Woman magazine and most importantly, The Daily Bugle newspaper and website, who possesses a deep resentment for costumed heroes and super-powered individuals. Because of this, he frequently uses his position to defame and incriminate superheroes in the public eye; most notably Spider-Man, whom he has repeatedly menaced while being unaware (until recently) that he is his photographer and former employee, Peter Parker. He is the former boss of Eddie Brock until he fired his employee for lying him and written falsely articles on Spider-Man.
Over the years, Jameson's antagonism has often varied between his appearances; with him being portrayed as both ruthless opponent of superheroes, willing to attack them outright or hire supervillains to further his agenda against them, and a man of integrity that reluctantly allies himself with superheroes to see justice done. At his worst, Jameson has been responsible for the creation of numerous villains such as Scorpion, Man-Wolf and the Spider-Slayers. In addition to Spider-Man, he has been an adversary of many other heroes, including Daredevil, She-Hulk and the Avengers.
John Jonah Jameson Jr. is cynical, wrathful and is not afraid to show it. He is constantly cruel and mean to his staff and those around him, and is often bossy, arrogant, short-tempered and controlling. He especially hates superhumans (both heroes and villains), and will resort to lies, slander, libel, and propaganda to defame and distort their public images. He is very cheap and pays his employees low wages. For the same reason, he encourages most photographers to work freelance rather than with a regular salary. Mostly his number one photographer Parker gives him a low wage since his spider-man photos are on the front page story sell like hot cakes. He rarely enters the fray himself, but when he does, he is shown to be determined and even a bit sadistic, as he wants nothing more than power over his opponents. This, of course, translates over to his constant conflict with Spider-Man, which has pushed him to outright criminal actions and supervillainy himself. Even when he is not engaging opponents physically, he will hire or recruit others to do it for him, such as Mysterio and the Anti-Spider Squad, crossing over into a field of evil that he himself claims to despise. He can even be unstable and lash out in rage and violence, such as with his attack on She-Hulk.
There are also times where Jameson can be a hypocrite, as while he vehemently opposes Spider-Man, he does sometimes praise the heroics of others, with Captain America being a good example. Jameson often claims that Spider-Man poses a threat to New York and its people with his vigilantism and secret identity. As well as believing that Spider-Man attracts the super-powered crime that the Web-Slinger is devoted to fighting against. While there are some fragments of truth in this statement, he still purposefully muddles outright facts with his own biased opinions, and will almost always use anything he can to say that Spider-Man is involved and/or to blame. Above all, one of Jameson’s most distinct traits is his hatred for those who hide themselves behind masks, deeming them as cowardly people who think that they’re above the law.
However, Jameson does show, deep down, to have a more caring side, which he expresses to his wives, son and Peter Parker (who unbeknowst to him is none other than Spider-Man himself) at times. While he has shown that he is not above villainy to achieve his goals, he is not expressly evil, and does care about his city and its people. It has also been revealed multiple times that Jameson hates superhumans, especially Spider-Man, really because he is envious of their gifts. Even then, there are moments where he does go out of his way to defend them or thank them if they save his life. Jonah also is a civil rights activist and as such, never acts out of bigotry; he does not condone nor tolerate the widespread public condemnation of mutants.
Arguably, Jonah's worst habit is his cigar smoking, which annoys his employees, co-workers, and nearly anyone he associates with. He has at times admitted it is a filthy habit and has tried to quit more than once, but never successfully.
In the films, he is portrayed as cynical and bitter, but honorable. Though he does not resort to the violence and illegal actions he does in the comics, he uses libel to defame Spider-Man and even causes him to temporarily quit in the second film. He hates lies and false evidences when he refused to let those who work for him and colouring the truth when he fired Eddie Brock for falsely accusing on Spider-Man, forcing Jameson to print a retraction.
While most of Jameson's past is kept a mystery in the series, he is shown to be happily married to his wife and the proud father of his son John, who has become a successful astronaut and even gone to the moon. Jameson is also shown to be strict with his employees as well as tight with money. He does, however, care about them as shown when he went out of his way to protect Peter from the Green Goblin.
Trivia[]
J. Jonah Jameson was created by the late Stan Lee and the late Steve Ditko.
Stan Lee modeled Jameson's appearance and personality off of himself, and even expressed a desire to portray Jameson in film or television. Lee eventually got his wish in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, voicing the version of Jameson from the 1967 series.
Jameson's appearance would serve as an inspiration for the supervillain Omni-Man from the Invincible comic series. Coincidentally, J.K. Simmons would provide the voice of Omni-Man in the Invincible animated series.
In the Sam Raimi film series, J. Jonah Jameson is notable for giving each of the main antagonists their nicknames, including Norman Osborn as the Green Goblin, Dr. Otto Octavius as Doc Ock, and Flint Marko as Sandman; with the exception of Venom.
Over the years, Jameson's motivations for hating Spider-Man have changed significantly. In his first appearances, Jameson's hatred of Spider-Man was motivated purely out of a desire to sell papers by slandering him, as well as a jealousy towards his heroism and good deeds. In addition, he thinks Spider-Man is everything he is not. In modern times, Jameson's hatred for Spider-Man is spurred by the fact that and and other heroes operate outside of the law; with him specifically targeting Spider-Man for always hiding behind a mask, and believing that he does it to avoid being held accountable or responsible for his actions. Most recently, Jameson's hatred has been derived from Spider-Man failing to save those he cares about, and feeling he has nothing else in his life.
The malicious libel (yes, in print it's called that; slander is spoken) Jameson constantly prints was called out by Captain America; right after Jameson released a cover implying Spider-Man helped A.I.M. Not pleased with the lies, Cap told Jameson that he and Spidey worked together to take down that A.I.M. cell; indirectly insulting Jameson's mustache as reminded him of Hitler. Jameson printed a retraction and shaved.
