~ General Dox to Hunter X-05. |
General Dox is a major antagonist in Season 2 in the Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero series Loki.
She is a general of the Time Variance Authority who was sworn in to discuss the future of the TVA after the destruction of the Time-Keepers. Despite the revelation that their entire system was a lie created by He Who Remains, Dox insists that his warnings are true and that Sylvie Laufeydottir must be found and deal with. However, Dox later experienced a change of heart and refused to side with Ravonna Renslayer even at the cost of her own life after finally seeing the bigger picture for the very first time.
She was portrayed by Kate Dickie, who also played Lysa Arryn in Game of Thrones.
Biography[]
Judges' Council Meeting[]
After discovering that the Time-Keepers were androids and that they themselves were variants, the TVA members met to discuss their next steps. They listened to testimonies from various agents, including Hunter B-15 and Mobius, who revealed the truth about their existence. A heated debate ensued about whether to continue "pruning" variants or allow free will in the multiverse. Eventually, Judge Gamble ordered the cessation of pruning, and tensions ran high. When Loki appeared and caused a commotion, Dox demanded to know where Sylvie was, hinting at a growing concern for the Time-Keepers' warnings. She instructed Hunter X-05 to find Sylvie to unravel the mystery.
Attack on the Branching Timelines[]
Dox led a mission to deploy Reset Charges in various branching timelines by altering TemPads to control them. She started the operation with loyal troops but faced opposition from Loki, Sylvie, and Mobius, who disrupted the plan. Realizing that the mission was compromised, Dox tried to salvage it, but she and her loyalists were ultimately defeated by Loki and Sylvie's magic. Dox was arrested and returned to the Time Variance Authority, but her forces succeeded in pruning a number of timelines, killing countless people.
However, Dox's mission was ultimately in vain as Ouroboros revealed soon after that the timeline branches that Dox had pruned were starting to grow back again and the Temporal Loom was becoming unstable once more.
Death[]
On the suggestion of Judge Gamble, Hunter B-15 approached Dox, warning her of the likely threat from Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes and trying to enlist her help to protect the TVA should such an attack happen. Although surprised, Dox recognized that B-15 was being serious and considered her offer despite X-05's insistence on finding a backup plan, suggesting that B-15 would simply prune them instead.
When Renslayer arrived seeking the help of Dox and her forces for Renslayer's plan to take over the TVA, Dox refused, choosing to side with her former enemies, stating that she was finally seeing the bigger picture for the very first time. Of Dox's forces, only X-05 sided with Renslayer and Miss Minutes while Dox and the others were brutally crushed to death using the Time Cube, bravely facing their brutal end rather than giving in to Renslayer and Miss Minutes. With her last words, Dox taunted Renslayer about how everyone present would rather die than work with her.
The remains of Dox and the others were found soon after by B-15 and she reported Dox's death just after Victor Timely was abducted by X-05, Renslayer and Miss Minutes.
Personality[]
Even though Dox recognized the Time-Keepers as mere manipulated androids, she unwaveringly clung to the conviction that their warnings carried genuine threats to the integrity of the Sacred Timeline. Her steadfast belief in the importance of maintaining the timeline's stability led her to vehemently oppose Hunter B-15's suggestion of ending the practice of pruning variants and allowing free will to reign in the timelines once again. Her determination to preserve the timeline's order and minimize potential chaos drove her to maintain her strict stance against any deviations from the established protocols.
However, Dox was not entirely unreasonable, and her actions were meant to protect the Sacred Timeline and the TVA as a whole. As such, when Hunter B-15 appealed to her, Dox seriously considered her offer and siding with her enemies in case of an attack. Dox outright admitted that she and B-15 might not see eye to eye on things, but she knew that the other woman was someone of integrity. When Ravonna Renslayer arrived seeking Dox's help, ostensibly to return the TVA to the way that things used to be run, Dox refused, stating that she was finally seeing the bigger picture for the first time. Even when faced with death, Dox refused to side with Renslayer, bravely standing her ground along with all but Hunter X-05. With her last words, Dox taunted Renslayer about how everyone would rather die than work with her. Despite their differences with Dox, Loki and his allies were saddened by her death as Dox had chosen the right side in the end and could've made an invaluable ally had she lived.
Trivia[]
- In the comics, Judge Paradox is a Time Variance Authority judge who presided during the trial of She-Hulk. However, the real Paradox appears as the secondary antagonist in Deadpool & Wolverine.
- Her deleting multiple timelines makes her have one of the highest kill counts in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Presumably second only to Kang the Conqueror and his variants including He Who Remains who prune branched timeline for a very long time.
- However, this may have been undone as Ouroboros stated in the very next episode that the branched timelines that Dox had pruned were already growing back.
- Her codename is a palindrome for Dox.
