Evanora Harkness is a minor antagonist in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ miniseries WandaVision and one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Scarlet Witch) of its 2024 spin-off series Agatha All Along.

She is a powerful witch from Salem Massachusets, the leader of the coven "the Salemites" and the mother of Agatha Harkness.

She was portrayed by Kate Forbes.

History[]

In Salem Massachsets, 1963, Evanora Harkness led the Salemites in punishing her daughter Agatha for practicing the Darkhold, the darkest of all magic. They tied Agatha to a stake and started blasting her with magic despite her pleas of mercy; however, Agatha quickly drains the other witches of their powers and kills them instead, leaving only Evanora. Agatha once again begs her mother for mercy, even claiming she can change. Evanora disagrees and blasts her again, forcing Agatha to kill her mother in self-defense. She then runs away due to being forever plagued for her crimes, keeping her mother's brooch as a souvenir.

In 2026, Evanora's ghost is accidentally summoned during the séance trial in the Witches' Road and possesses Agatha, giving Agatha a zombified makeover before attacking the other witches in Agatha's new coven. Evanora eventually leaves Agatha's body and reveals herself to the coven, demanding they leave without Agatha so she can torture her for eternity as revenge for killing her (although it was in self-defense). When Agatha asks her mom why she hates her, Evanora reveals that she saw evil in Agatha the instant of her birth and even wishes she had killed her as a baby. Agatha begs the coven not to leave her and even repeats the same plea words she gave her mother ("I can be good"), only to be possessed again by her mother's vengeful ghost. Alice Wu-Gulliver saves Agatha by blasting Evanora's ghost out of her body, but in the process Agatha drains Alice's magic and kills her. It's unknown what happened to Evanora after this, whether she returned to the dead or ceased to exist entirely in spirit form.

Personality[]

Evanora is shown to be a brutal, ruthless and apathetic witch whom is all to eager to kill and later torment her own daughter Agatha. She seems to have a twisted sense of morals as she condems Agatha for being evil and practicing the darkest of magic but sees no problem with attempting filicide and admitantly feels nothing for her own offspring, outright stating she wishes she killed her the day she was born. She is however implied to have cared for the rest of her coven as she appeared saddened when Agatha killed them.
