Wait! Wait! I smell... dogs' droppings.
~ Elizabeth detecting Luke's presence in the meeting.

Elizabeth also named Elise is a witch who is one of the Grand High Witch's followers and a supporting antagonist in the 1984 Roald Dahl novel The Witches, and it's movie adaptations.

She was portrayed by Jenny Runacre.

Biography[]

Elizabeth is known to be a witch working as a maid in the Exclesior Hotel so it might be a reason why the witch meeting was held there. Like all witches, her main hobby is murdering children, due to the fact they smell like "dog’s droppings” to her. Just before the meeting, she tells Mr. Stringer that she will stay in the meeting just in case, as he didn't suspect that she's the witch. When she attends The Witches annual meeting at a hotel, she reveals what her true form looks like as she is bald and has scaly claws hidden by gloves. Elizabeth is the first witch who welcomes Bruno and introduces him to the other witches during the meeting. When the Grand High Witch demonstrates how her new formula 86 turns Bruno into a mouse, Elizabeth is shown laughing with delight. Before the ending of the meeting, she picks up some things laying on the stage, and she detects Luke's presence and immediately notifies Grand High Witch about her discovery.

Elizabeth is one of the main witches to give chase after Luke, and then she helps Grand High Witch to use Formula 86 on him. Elizabeth isn't shown to be present at the evening dinner prepared for the witches, so it's unknown if she was transformed into a mouse with the contaminated soup, but it is likely, since she was a member of the meeting beforehand.
