~ Arbitro capturing Akira in bad ending. |
Arbitro is a supporting character and a secondary antagonist of a Japanese BL visual novel Togainu No Chi created by Nitro+CHiRAL, its television anime adaptation, two manga series and a novel based on original visual novel.
A disgraced researcher at Nicole Project from a wealthy family caught red-handed by Motomi at torturing a young boy, Arbitro went to hiding in a dystopian post-World War 3 city named Toshima, formerly known as Tokyo. Living in a luxury mansion known as The Palace, Arbitro is a head of a drug ring Vischio controlling the city and host for a deadly game Igura, which involves its participants fighting to death to collect enough tags to fight II Re, the game's sole unbeatable champion. Out of majority's eyes, Abitro has captured, mutilated and enslaved dozens of young boys, among which his most prominent victim is Kau.
Depending on the player's choices, Arbitro may met his end at the sword of Shiki, successfully abandon Toshima City after the start of civil war, or be successful at capturing Akira and making him a "mate" for Kau. In almost all routes and adaptations, including television anime adaptation, Arbitro never meets any punishment for his crimes onscreen.
He is voiced by Kōsuke Okano in PS2 version of the game and anime, who has also voiced Shadow Man and Metal Man in Super Adventure Rockman, Negatron in Japanese dubbing of Power Rangers Samurai, and most infamously, Kenta Nakamura in Initial D: Second Stage. In CD drama and PC version of the game, he is voiced by Masaru Hishi.
Appearance[]
Arbitro has an eloquent sense of fashion, wearing white gloves and a white suit with crimson shirt underneath, swathed in a splendid piece of purple-shaded fur. His face is always covered by a piece of white mask, showing his blueish green eyes and bleach-damaged blonde hair. He stands at 181 centimeters or 5'11 ft tall and has slim build. According to the manga, he is forty years old.
In the flashbacks, Arbitro had short black hair and wore glasses.
Personality[]
On the surface, Abitro is a calm, kind, theatrical and pretentious person with a bizarre taste for fashion and art, being described as the very picture of a lech by Rin. The Palace, his headquarters, are filled with erotic and exotic sculptures of nude young boys, which disgust most characters from his environment. He also has a fetish for mutilating living, breathing human beings and modifying their anatomy to his liking; for example, he had removed Kau's eyeballs, scratched an X-shaped scar onto his stomach and somehow boosted his sense of smell to superhuman levels. He views this as a unique expression of art, and likewise trades his slaves to people who collect enough tags for him.
Despite his cruel tendencies, Abitro is a coward disgusted by the sight of death, as shown when the Executioners busted into his office during with Keisuke's initiation with a corpse, Abitro lost his composure and demanded them to immediately leave. When Toshima falls into chaos caused by military forces exterminating everyone on sight, Abitro immediately and successfully leaves the city, letting Shiki run rampant for months after the city becomes a ghost town.
Like almost all the characters in the story, Abitro has set his sights on Akira, which the latter first noticed during their first meeting, where the aristocrat was staring at him for much longer than necessary with snake-like gaze. Likewise, if the player decides to foolishly taste the poisoned bread offered by Abitro after the first encounter with insane Keisuke, Akira will fall unconscious and be tortured for the rest of his life. Unlike all the other love interests in the game, Abitro does not pursue Akira for his own romantic needs, but wishes to make him a "mate" for Kau.
Trivia[]
