Angelo Punchinello is the secondary antagonist of the 2001 third person shooter video game Max Payne. He is the Don of the Punchinello Crime Family, and helped Nicole Horne peddle Valkyr on the streets of New York City.
He is voiced by Joe Ragno.
History[]
Angelo is an Italian-American mobster, the head of New York City's Punchinello crime family, and the godfather of New York's crime underworld at least from the late 1980s to early 1990s until 2001. His top three most dangerous henchmen are known as the Trio: Vince Mugnaio, Pilate "Big Brother" Providence, and Joe "Deadpan" Salem.
Punchinello's early life are mostly unknown, whenever he founded or inherit the crime family is unknown. At some point prior to 2001, he married a woman called Lisa, whom he often beat.
Around 1999, the CEO of Aesir Corporation, Nicole Horne, began to use Angelo's criminal organization for her valkyr business, which also addicted his right-hand man, Jack Lupino. Angelo never found out who Horne was, but thought that she was someone from the government.
He plays a central role before and during Max Payne's revenge quest in 2001. First Max finds many of his letters to his soldiers but after killing Lupino in his night club he meets Mona Sax who informs him that it wasn't Jack he should be after but Angelo Punchinello. After Vladimir Lem told him to return back his ship and cargo and kill his former soldier Boris Dime in the docks, Punchinello makes the contact with him.
He tries to lure Payne into a trap by setting a meeting with his enemy, which contains his own restaurant, Casa di Angelo burning down to capture Payne, but the trap goes in vain, as Payne escapes the place.
Knowing where to find Punchinello, Max heads to his manor in the outskirts of the city. After killing every mobster present there including the trio, Max goes after Punchinello. Along the way, Max finds the corpse of Lisa lying on the bed and notes that she has been brutally beaten to death, likely by Punchinello himself. Just in front of his office, Max hears Punchinello begging for help and when Max enters it he tells him that he was just doing what he was told to do and he was working for someone that might be from the government. But before Max can kill Punchinello, Horne's personal army bursts into the office and executes Punchinello.
