“ At the end, I hope you understand the truth, Clark. I hope you can feel my hate. Because you did this. Like you did on my world. Like you do on every world. You made them believe. You fooled them into always thinking that you would always be there for them, to save them, to lift them up, to make them better. And that belief is exactly what will drag your entire world to devastation. „
~ Bruce, ranting about Superman's heroism.
“ We wanted to believe in you. We wanted to believe that the strongest man in the world was there to save us.[...] But we were wrong. „
~ Bruce to his universe's Superman.

Bruce Wayne, better known as the Devastator, was a supporting antagonist in Dark Knights: Metal. Like most of the other Dark Knights in the Dark Multiverse, he began as a hero in his world, Earth -1, though the Superman of his world would turn evil for unexplained reasons. Though he managed to kill his former best friend, his world was doomed to be destroyed, causing him to accept an offer from the Batman Who Laughs to try to save his world. In reality, he would unite with his team to try to plunge the multiverse in darkness.

The character was created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • Although he was originally a hero, after infecting himself with the Doomsday Virus, he abandons his morals and slaughters his Earth's Superman. Though the former Man of Steel deserved it, Bruce soon becomes worse than his former nemesis.
  • Accepts The Batman Who Laughs's offer to save his world, only to later on repurpose his goals to plunge the multiverse in darkness.
  • Assisted his fellow Dark Knights in subduing Cyborg and taking control of the Justice League Watchtower.
  • Upon arriving in Metropolis, he infects Lois Lane with the Doomsday virus and causes her to act as a carrier to the virus in the city. This causes her to end up infecting numerous civilians, which includes members from Superman's family. This does not rely on Fridge Horror, as their transformations are all onscreen.
  • Brutally beat several Justice League Members, which included the Flash, Jessica Cruz, and Simon Baz.
  • Threw Lobo into the Sun. While Lobo was a morally questionably bounty hunter, he was helping the heroes.
  • Attempted to kill Prime Earth's Superman, and would've succeeded if it had not been for the Flash.
  • Assisted his fellow Dark Knights in slaughtering the Nightmaster, who stayed behind to let the heroes escape.
  • Attempted to kill the Justice League for foiling their plans on plunging the multiverse into darkness.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • Though the Devastator passes the baseline through infecting numerous civilians onscreen with the Doomsday virus (most notably Lois), the in-story standards are still too high for him to stand out. While he cannot be compared with with Perpetua or Barbatos, as he has less resources than them, other villains with similar or even fewer, such as the Joker, The Batman Who Laughs, and Robin King end up doing far worse, as they have more vile crimes under their belt.
  • He has a tragic backstory of having his best friend turning to evil for no reason, and only becoming the Devastator once it's made clear Superman won't stop rampaging. Given how Bruce turns out to be worse than his world's Superman, though, this makes for a minor prevention.
  • He has moral agency issues, as his the Doomsday Virus tampers with his intellect and prevents him from consistently understanding right and wrong. Given his pessimistic and ruthless personality, this makes for a minor prevention.
