May we never go to Hell, but always be on our way!
~ Swansea.

Swansea is the main antagonist of the 2024 psychological horror game Mouthwashing, developed by Swedish Developer Wrong Organ.

He was the mechanic aboard the Tulpar, a massive cargo ship transporting goods across space for Pony Express. He finds himself stranded with the crew after the co-pilot, Jimmy, intentionally steers the ship into an asteroid. Swansea becomes intoxicated by the seemingly endless supply of alcohol-based mouthwash on board, and secretly works on a cryo-pod to offer Daisuke, the young and innocent intern, a chance at survival.

Following Daisuke's death, a result of Swansea's mercy kill, Swansea embarks on a vengeful rampage, seeking to kill Jimmy. However, he ultimately finds redemption by confessing his own flaws, condemning Jimmy’s actions, regretting that he couldn't save Daisuke, and braving his fate as Jimmy enacts his execution.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • He constantly berates and discourages Daisuke, the young and innocent intern, for his ineptitude aboard the ship.
  • He breaks 15 years of sobriety by becoming addicted to the mouthwash aboard the Tulpar, which causes disruption among the crew.
    • This includes coercing Daisuke to drink with him.
  • After Daisuke becomes mutilated by entering the vent on Jimmy's request, Swansea kills him with an axe straight to the face.
  • During a vengeful and wrathful breakdown, Swansea chases down Jimmy and attempts to murder him with the same axe, and also starts breaking down parts of the ship
  • He intentionally hid the knowledge that there was a final working cryo-pod so that he alone could choose Daisuke as the sole survivor, which denies the other crewmates the possibility.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • He massively fails the heinous standards to Jimmy himself, who intentionally crashed the ship, raped and impregnated Anya, mutilated, abused, tortured, and cannibalized Curly, manipulated Daisuke into injuring himself, and murdered Swansea himself while he was tied to a chair.
  • While he does berate Daisuke, it is eventually revealed that it was his form of "tough love," and it is abundantly clear that Swansea cared a lot about him and viewed him as a son figure, which is why he tried to salvage the cryo-pod for him.
    • Furthermore, while he does murder Daisuke, it was a "mercy kill" with the intention of putting him out of his misery on the assumption he could never survive. He later regretted being unable to give him a chance at survival.
    • It is also evident that he cares about Anya, as when she informed him that Jimmy had sexually assaulted her, he came to despise Jimmy, speaking towards him with a passive-aggressive tone and said that Anya had "told him all sorts of things.”
    • Despite claiming to cherish his life as an alcoholic over what he gained during his sobriety, he does genuinely love his wife and children.
  • His disgust and hatred towards Jimmy for his actions over the course of the game, most notably his rape of Anya and inadvertently causing Daisuke's death, proves that he has standards.
  • While questionable, him attempting to murder Jimmy is more than understandable, considering Jimmy had destroyed the entire crew, all the while refusing to take responsibility for any of his actions, essentially forcing Swansea to stand up to him.
  • He is an honest man who acknowledges his imperfections, which is clear when he scolds Jimmy in his final speech for his delusion and explains that he never felt satisfied crossing the "finish line" throughout his life, and also that saving Daisuke would've been him doing "one thing right."
  • His execution at Jimmy's hands is portrayed very sympathetically, especially considering that Jimmy blatantly ignored everything he had to say before his execution by still insisting he would "fix everything."
  • Overall, despite some reckless actions, he is portrayed as far more of a heroic and truthful counterbalance to Jimmy in the story than he is a villainous one.
