~ Kay to Rain about the Offspring moments after its birth.

The Offspring is the final antagonist in the 2024 sci-fi horror film Alien: Romulus, the ninth installment in the Alien film franchise.

It was a human fetus that got severely mutated due to its mother Kay injecting herself with the black goo whilst pregnant. Ultimately leading to the Offspring being born, which began growing in an unbelievably fast rate, all to chase and kill the leftover scavengers of the Corbelan IV.

Its Evil Ranking[]

Its Villainous Deeds[]

  • Like all other beings that are mutated from the black goo pathogen, the Offspring is a vicious and aggressive creature that is unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality.
  • One of the first things it does after it was born was slashing open Andy’s throat for no reason whatsoever.
  • It began to aggressively suckle from its mother Kay (and, earlier before its birth, its two uncles Bjorn and Tyler) in order to absorb more of the black goo, causing her death. But despite this, it is unknown if the Offspring deliberately tried to kill her, or if it was done accidently.
  • After it encountered Rain, it would attempt to hunt her down and kill her, and furthermore showed a clear malicious side of its personality in its attempt to kill, as it would repeatedly give a sadistic smile at her once it had the upper hand.
  • While Xenomorphs are portrayed as being cunning and vicious, it is debatable if they are truly sadistic or not, as they are bio-engineered super predators that act with great instinct (The Nostromo Drone might be an exception). The Offspring, however, is clearly malevolent and takes evil pleasure in the actions it commits.

Why Doesn't It Stand Out?[]

  • Despite its additional sadism which makes it stand out from the Xenomorphs, it still massively fails the heinous standards within the Alien-franchise. Having only killed one person, with it being unknown if that was even intentional or not. Therefore, it is outclassed by other Xenomorphs, but also by humans, androids, and Engineers as well, who do way more damage, albeit with different resources. For example:
    • The Nostromo Drone, who killed the majority of the Nostromo crew in various brutal ways. Eventually destroying and murdering most members of the Renaissance station.
    • David 8, for manipulating and experimenting with the black goo which resulted in what the Xenomorphs now are.
    • Various characters that work for the Weyland-Yutani corporation that wish to both experiment and weaponize the Xenomorphs and the black goo.
  • Having been severely mutated by the black goo, the Offspring, despite its sadistic personality, still has moral agency issues, mainly because the black goo causes extreme aggression and hostility in every being that it mutates. It is also established that the Xenomorphs have no perspective or understanding as to what morality is, only acting as a purely hostile force because that is what they are engineered to do.
