Red King

Red King^[1] (レッドキング, Reddo Kingu) is an ancient Kaiju species from Earth. It first appeared in episode 8 of the TV series Ultraman.

Red King has become one of the franchise's most popular Kaiju, and has made recurring reappearances throughout the franchise. Red King's popularity has made it one of the most well-known characters of the Ultraman Series.

The Birth of Ultraman

At the end of the run of Ultra Q and before the start of Ultraman, a stage show was put together by Tsuburaya, explaining the premise of the Ultraman series. In it, the Ultra Q monsters Garamon, Kanegon, and M1 are causing chaos in a lab of monster researchers, and the chaos only goes further when Red King, leading Antlar, Alien Baltan, and Chandlar burst into the lab, being chased by the SSSP. Soon, the Q and Ultraman monsters started a brawl, destroying most of the lab, only until Ultraman arrived and started to fight back. Soon, the entire cast of monsters were soothed by a chorus of children singing the Ultraman theme. ^{The Birth of Ultraman}

History

Ultraman

Generation I

The first Red King, Red King I (レッドキング（一代目）, Reddo Kingu (Shodaime)), was discovered on a remote island filled with other monsters, where a small group of scientists had been terrorized and all but one were ultimately killed.

Red King appeared along with Magular and Chandlar. This episode also featured the first appearance of Pigmon, a monster the size of a human child that was friendly toward humans. The reason for the monsters' appearances was because the magnetic field on the island was off balance, causing creatures to mutate. The island was named "Tatara Island."

Red King was first spotted by the SSSP battling Chandlar. After a short fight, Red King defeated Chandlar by tearing off a limb/wing and throwing the dismembered limb, as well as some rocks at the monster as it fled, and was never seen or heard from again. Magular, a burrowing monster, survived the episode almost unnoticed, but was eventually killed by the SSSP. Red King then found the SSSP and Pigmon. Red King then made an avalanche of rocks which killed Pigmon. Once Ultraman appeared, Red King was caught off guard and was defeated without the need for the Spacium Beam (Except for when Ultraman used it on a rock Red King was about to throw at him). After being thrown around a few times by the Flying Mare, this Red King got paralyzed and was never seen again. ^{The Lawless Monster Zone}

Trivia

• Suit actor: Teruo Aragaki
• The Red King suit has gone through a history of edits and recycling. After Red King's debut, the suit was used to create the monster Aboras. Afterwards, the suit was recycled and reused to create Red King II in episode 25.
• During early production work on Ultraman when it was known as "Redman", Red King was intended to be the King of the Monsters until the show was changed into Ultraman. Red King, however, kept his name for unknown reasons.
• Red King's "Shparr!" roar is one of the most characteristic monster sounds from the series. His roars are a combination of the beginning of a Godzilla roar but sped up; and sped up and speed ramped King Kong roars.
  • Red King also makes a different roar that would be reused for Dustpan when Ultraman grabs him by the throat.
• Red King's pompous forearm gestures foreshadow the showboating of future pro wrestlers and athletes.
• Originally, Red King and Gomora were to be revived by Geronimon but, due to their suits being in an overused condition, they were replaced by Dorako and Telesdon. The original monsters' names are still used in the English dub of Ultraman, when the Science Patrol mistakenly call the revived monsters Red King and Gomora, respectively. Also, he makes a cameo appearance as a toy in the beginning of episode 37.
• Red King's roar is used as the introduction to Ultraman Ace's opening theme from episode 9 to episode 25. Red King also appears as a silhouette, but does not appear in the series.
• Red King was one of the three original ideas for a Capsule Monster in the early stages of Ultraseven, alongside Peguila and Antlar.
• Red King briefly appeared in Ultraseven - Operation: Solar Energy as one of the many monsters that Ultra Guard previously encountered.
• Red King is given the name "Mr. Bad" in the unofficial compilation film Space Warriors 2000, where he claims "everybody's heard of "him", perhaps in reference to the character's popularity in pop culture and merchandising.

• The monster Jairock from the 1972 Toho tokusatsu series Assault! Human very much resembles Red King. In fact, both monsters were created by the same designer who drew Jairock with Red King in mind.
• Red King I's appearance in Ultraman was featured in New Ultraman Retsuden episode 131 "The Lawless Monster Zone! Fight, Ultraman!".
• In Return of Ultraman episode 7, Red King appears as a toy fighting a toy Baragon.
• In Return of Ultraman episode 10, a child wonders if Red King would beat the dinosaurs mentioned during a presentation about their history.
• In the Studio Ghibli film Castle of the Sky, Red King's roar can be heard in a lightning storm just before the heroes crash on Laputa.

Generation II

A second Red King, Red King II (レッドキング（二代目）, Reddo Kingu (Nidaime)), appeared in episode 25 "Mystery Comet Tsuifon". He appeared as part of another trio of kaiju, which included Dorako and Guigass.

When the giant comet Tsuifon was headed towards Earth, the SSSP division in Paris discovered that its cosmic rays might set off six unprotected hydrogen bombs. Japan's SSSP sent members Shin Hayata, Daisuke Arashi, and Mitsuhiro Ide to search for the six missing hydrogen bombs in the Japanese Alps. Shortly after the men arrived in the Alps, Tsuifon had already passed over the Earth, but its presence disturbed the Kaiju Guigass, then later Dorako. Still in search of the missing bombs, the SSSP found another Red King (Red King II) who had the missing hydrogen bombs inside his neck.

Red King then found the two previous Kaiju locked in combat and decided to join in the fight. Both he and Guigass ganged up against Dorako and beat the Kaiju mercilessly. Red King viciously tore Dorako's wings off, and Dorako died of its injuries soon afterward. Guigass was driven off by Red King and fell victim to the Extreme Drought Bomb deployed by the Science Patrol. All three monsters apparently precipitated out of a fragment of comet debris, or were awakened by the comet's radiation; it is not entirely clear, but the comet somehow triggered their appearance. Apparently, Red King now presented an extra danger, as it had swallowed the six long-lost hydrogen bombs.

Ultraman was unable to use his Spacium Beam without detonating the hydrogen bombs lodged in his throat, and the second Red King proved to be a more formidable adversary than the original. After a brutal battle, Ultraman ultimately paralyzed Red King and raised it off the ground with the Ultra Air Catch. He then used two of his Ultra Slashes to slice Red King into thirds. Ultraman took the head and neck portion and flew away into space with it in order to allow the hydrogen bombs to explode harmlessly.

• Suit actor: Kunio Suzuki
• Red King II had a clay lump stuck to the right side of its neck to represent the hydrogen bombs, and a flap of skin on his back that was seemingly cut, which was most likely due to the low budget and having to reuse the old Red King/Aboras suit.
• Red King II is also referred to as Red King Jr., implying that the first Red King had a son.
• Gorgos was originally intended to be the monster that fought Guigass and Dorako, but he was scrapped and replaced with Red King II for unknown reasons.
• Red King II's appearance in Ultraman was featured in New Ultraman Retsuden episode 17 "The Dreaded Comet Tsuifon! The Three Roaring Monsters!!".

Ultraman Taro

Red King's soul became the legs of Tyrant along with the souls of one of the past defeated monsters like Alien Icarus, Seagorath, Bemstar, Baraba, King Crab, and Hanzagiran. ^{Go Beyond the Ultra Brothers!}

• During the showcase of stock footage from the original Ultraman, Red King reuses Gorbagos's roar.

Jumborg Ace

A Red King, alongside Blue Condor, was one of the monsters being experimented on by Anti Go-Ne and Alien Gross in order to use human corpses to create monsters.

The☆Ultraman

Red King reappeared in episode 27 of the series The☆Ultraman.

Of all the Kaiju on the Asteroid Baladon, Red King was the most powerful monster, but it was reserved by Alien Baladon as their last line of defense. After the Science Guard Party was attacking the other monsters that inhabited the island (Banila, Aboras, Arstron, Ghostron, and Gokinezura), Red King was unleashed to stop them. He first fights and kills Ghostron, and later fights and kills Gokinezura to show off his superiority.

When Ultraman Joneus appeared, the two battled to a standstill. Even with the other monsters assisting Red King in stopping the Ultra, Ultraman Joneus eventually destroyed the other monsters and Red King is destroyed by Joneus's Boomerang Guillotine.

• Red King has a modified Kamacuras roar in the series.
• Red King was originally intended to appear in the first episode, but was switched with Seagra.

Ultraman 80

Red King reappeared in episode 46 of the series Ultraman 80 as Red King III (レッドキング(三代目), Reddo Kingu (Sandaime)).

Red King III was wished into existence by Marjin, a genie-like entity who was imprisoned inside of an old jar until being released by three boys who debated about which monster to wish for (Eleking and Woo are referenced, too). Shortly after being created, Red King rampages through the heart of the city and causes mass destruction. Ultraman 80 shows up, and after a relatively short battle, Ultraman 80 destroyed Red King with his Succium Beam.

• Suit actor: Tomohiro Sato
• Red King III's suit was a completely new suit.
• It was once thought that Red King III could be Red King II from Ultraman, due to the similar color; however, it was officially made as the Third Generation for convenience.
• In the Ultra Kaiju Encyclopedia video series, this Red King was stated by the narrator to be an imitation of the first appearing breed.
• The PlayStation 2 video game Ultraman Fighting Evolution 3 has a scenario based on this episode, although the conclusion has Red King III being returned to the jar instead of being destroyed. Additionally, Red King III was portrayed by a recycled Red King First Generation model.
• When 80 stomps on Red King's foot, Red King's pained screech is a reused and slightly altered Ebirah roar.

Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero

Red King reappeared as Powered Red King (パワードレッドキング, Pawādoreddo Kingu) in episodes 3 and 12 of the series Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero.

In this series, there are two Red Kings (a female, colored the traditional tan, and a male, colored red) In their debut appearance the female is seen mostly, attacking Chandlar, Pigmon, and WINR before facing Ultraman Powered; she calls out to her mate and the two monsters briefly double-team Powered. After being dazed by WINR, the female Red King wanders off a cliff to her doom, which leaves her mate in sorrow and loss. Ultraman Powered allows the male Red King to live, feeling sympathy for the monster.

Later around the end of the series, a male Red King appeared and was quickly killed by the Alien Baltan's version of Dorako. It is unknown if this is the same Red King from before or not.

• There are some sources saying that the female one is called Red Queen.

Ultraman Max

Red King reappeared in episodes 5, 6, and 36 of the series, Ultraman Max.

Red King was mentioned in a prophecy as a destructive monster who was sealed underground by the race of Pigmon long ago. However, several years in the present after the tomb and the last of Pigmon's race is disturbed, Red King awakens and emerges from underground, resuming his rampage on the island he is on. Pigmon uses one of the monster guardians of the island, known as Salamadon, to fight Red King, but Red King easily beats down and kills Salamadon before shifting his attention back to Pigmon. Ultraman Max appears and fights Red King and manages to bury the monster underground before the other guardian monster, known as Paragler appears and briefly fights Max. Pigmon tames Paragler, keeping him from attacking Max so that Max can leave (his color timer was blinking red). Red King is not finished yet, however, as he burrows away to recover. Red King resurfaces and attacks Paragler and after a lengthy battle manages to kill Paragler, too. Red King tries to kill Pigmon again, with both guardian monsters dead, but Pigmon is rescued by DASH and Ultraman Max returns for a rematch. After a lengthy battle, Red King weakens and becomes highly explosive. Because of this Ultraman Max carries him into Earth's atmosphere and destroys him with the Maxium Cannon so that he could detonate without harming Earth. ^{Monster Island Appears! 5 Seconds Before Bombing}

Red King returns by a dimensional portal that opens up in the middle of Tokyo and is still highly explosive. His appearance this time around is more comical, as is the other villain that appears to have brought him there: Alien Shamer. However, Ultraman Max fights back and defeats him again using the Max Galaxy. ^{Alternate Dimension World}

Trivia

• Suit actor: Koichi Toshima (Episode 36)
• In this series, Red King possessed a breath weapon consisting of impact-explosive rocks, similar to Toho's Megalon, except Red King's were a barrage rather than singular. He gained this ability by swallowing the explosive rocks that were in great abundance on the island.
• In a DVD special known as Ultraman Max Super Battle!, Ultraman Max battles against Red King and Zetton. The two monsters team up to take out Max, but in the end Red King is knocked unconscious and Max kills Zetton with the Maxium Sword.
  • At one point in the special, Red King has Zumbolar's roar.
• In this series, Red King is the most comical that he has ever been, as opposed to his other, menacing appearances.
• According to Shamer, his reason for controlling Red King is due to the monster being less intelligent, making it easier for him to obey the alien without questions.
• In addition to his traditional roar, Red King at one point made a sound identical to that of large cats, such as a leopard, as well as hissing sounds not too dissimilar from crocodilians.

Ultraman Mebius

Red King reappeared in episode 42 of the series Ultraman Mebius.

Red King is revived by Gadiba. He is then possessed by Gadiba to attack in the middle of a valley in which GUYS is sent to investigate. After a lengthy battle against GUYS, Mirai transforms into Ultraman Mebius and faces off against Red King as well. After a relatively short and easy battle, Mebius is victorious. Gadiba then suddenly emerges from Red King's body and transforms him into a Gomora (which was seen earlier in the episode, possibly morphed into Red King previously by Gadiba) to do battle against Mebius. ^{An Old Friend's Visit}

• Red King makes a cameo in episode 21 in the Monster Graveyard, along with several other deceased monsters.
• The Red King suit from Ultraman Max was reused for Red King's battle in this series.

Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle

Red King reappeared in episodes 1 and 7 of the series Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle.

Red King is first seen interfering in the middle of a battle between Telesdon and Sadola and after a brief brawl, manages to choke Sadola to death. Red King then turned his attention to the ZAP SPACY crew and attacked them, but was intercepted by Telesdon and they resumed their battle. The result of the fight is unclear, as it is seen that Red King is still persuing the ZAP SPACY team (the same Telesdon that fought him also returns in the next episode). Rei confronts Red King himself and calls for his Gomora to do battle against the monster. After a long battle, Gomora is victorious by destroying Red King's innards with his Ultra Oscillation Wave.

Later on, Red King, as well as Telesdon and Neronga, are all revived by the bizarre monster Bullton to do battle against Rei and the ZAP SPACY. Red King doesn't fight until the end, but even after displaying more power than the others combined, he is still destroyed by both Gomora and Litra.

The last that is seen of Red King in this series is in the flashback of a little girl while he was fighting against the monster Arstron.

Trivia

• Red King, as well as Telesdon and Sadola, were referenced by the Spark Dolls Troupe in New Ultraman Retsuden episode 16 to demonstrate the "rampaging hordes of monsters" living on Planet Boris.

Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle: Never Ending Odyssey

Red King returns in episodes 10, 12, and 13 of the series Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle: Never Ending Odyssey.

In the sequel to the above series, Red King is the second monster owned by Grande (his first being Tyrant). Grande first uses Red King to fight against a King Joe Black that is sent to kill them both, but Red King destroys the King Joe Black with ease, while Grande escapes death at the hands of Alien Pedan. Towards the end of the series, Grande challenges Rei to another rematch (their second battle resulted in the death of his Tyrant) and Rei complies. The battle goes on for a lengthy amount of time and it appears Red King gains the upper hand after it beats down Gomora senselessly. Rei, however, transforms into Reimon and charges Gomora with enough power to defeat Red King with ease; however, Reimon has Gomora spare Red King and Grande's life after they defeat him and thus leave.

During the series finale, Grande returns and sides with Rei in helping fight against Alien Reiblood (who had possessed Armored Darkness) using his Red King to assist Gomora. In the end, Gomora and Red King transform into their EX forms and Reiblood meets his demise at the hands of the ZAP SPACY, EX Gomora and EX Red King (EX（イーエックス）レッドキング, Ī Ekkusu Reddo Kingu).

• EX Red King's roar is a combination of Godzilla, Rodan and Chaos Taildas's roars.
• This is the first Ultraman series in which Red King was unofficially a "good guy".

Mega Monster Battle Ultra Galaxy: The Movie

Red King was revived by Ultraman Belial as part of his 100 Monster Army. He was first seen as one of the spirits of the Monster Graveyard floating around with Doragory, King Joe Black, Alien Babarue, Telesdon and Arigera. Then he was seen rising out of the ground along with Tyrant, Hoe, Banpira, Gudon, King Guesra, and Eleking before being re-captured by Belial. He was the first to fight Gomora in the Monster Graveyard. When Reimon went berserk due to Belial, Red King and the other survivng monsters were told back to watch Gomora fight the Ultras and stayed there until Ultraman Zero arrived and he teamed up with the other monsters to take him down. He was last seen going for a brief fight against Ultraman Zero before being killed seconds later by three kicks on his body and a final kick on his neck. ^{Mega Monster Battle Ultra Galaxy: The Movie}

Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Adventure

Bullton's Red King

50 years after the incident on Planet Hammer, Red King was one of the monsters summoned to Earth courtesy of Bullton. Red King appeared in the midst of the townspeople's attempt at hurting a Pigmon, destroying buildings to scare them to the subway for protection. While doing so, some of the falling rubble fall on Pigmon, giving Io Mikura the resolve to summon Gomora again and protect the townspeople from Red King. While Red King tries to attack using torn apart buildings as projectiles, Gomora counters easily and kills Red King using a series of Mega Ton Tail whipping. Red King's corpse laid down next to the subway stairs, enough for the exiting townspeople to inspect closely.

The segment of this story gets adapted to a simpler version in the Mega Monster Battle: ULTRA MONSTERS, where Red King targets Pigmon, chasing him until it slaps the small creature face-plant to a building. This prompted the players to summon their monster and kill Red King in retaliation.

Kanegon's Red King

Alien Metron's EX Red King

An EX Red King was a monster under Reionics Alien Metron's ownership, fighting off Alien Zarab's EX Eleking. EX Red King would later be defeated by Vittorio's EX Gomora after EX Eleking was obliterated.

In ULTRA MONSTERS story mode adaptation, EX Red King follows the same story role in the manga.

Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Adventure NEO

Main article: Ai's Red King

Ultra Zero Fight

Red King and EX Red King reappeared in Part 1 of the miniseries Ultra Zero Fight. Red King was renamed Red King of the Strong Arm (剛腕のレッドキング, Gōwan no Reddo Kingu): in the miniseries, also being part of "The Four Beast Warriors of Hell".

In this short series, Red King was one of the many monsters revived by Alien Bat Gurashie (along with Galberos, Bemstar, and Gan-Q) to battle against Ultraman Zero. Right before their fight, Alien Bat enhances Red King, transforming him into EX Red King in order to beat down Zero, who is physically incapable of fighting back due to Alien Bat locking him in the Tector Gear Hatred. However, the appearance of a Pigmon allowed Zero to break the Tector Gear and later, kill EX Red King with a revamped Ultra Hurricane, followed by the Gulnate Buster.

Galaxy Rescue Force Voice Drama

A Red King is seen fighting against three members of the Galaxy Rescue Force: Ultraman Ribut, Poccola, and Alien Babarue (RB) on a planet. He seems to be able to handle three of them until RB summons his Nova to attack the Skull Monster, making him run away from them.

Ultraman Ginga

Red King was one of the combatants of the Dark Spark War as one of the many monsters to be turned into a Spark Doll by Dark Lugiel. He was first seen as a Spark Doll being dug up by Misuzu Isurugi. Alien Icarus then steals Red King's Spark Doll along with Baraba, Seagorath, Bemstar, Hanzagiran, and King Crab to Darklive into to form Tyrant. He is acquired by Hikaru Raido after he had defeated Tyrant as Ultraman Tiga along with Jean-Nine. ^{Ultraman Ginga Theater Special}

Red King was used by Misuzu, Hikaru's childhood friend, having Ultlived into the monster and teamed up with Ultraman Ginga to battle Zaragas. It is likely he returned to outer space in his original form soon after Ginga fought and defeated Dark Lugiel.

Trivia

• This was the first official time in an Ultraman series in which Red King was portrayed as a heroic Kaiju rather than an anti-heroic one. But as Misuzu does not know how to fight, Red King is easily defeated.
• In episode 7 Red King, along with several other monsters, is seen cheering Ginga on as he fights Dark Galberos.
• In the special Ginga the Live! Red King, along with many of the other Tyrant monsters, appears to help host along with Gomora and Alien Godola.

Ultraman Ginga Theater Special: Ultra Monster ☆ Hero Battle Royale!

Red King appeared in the second movie special in both his normal and EX form. He was the fifth monster to be Ultlived by the Livepad and the first one to be Lived by Misuzu Isurugi, while his EX form was Ultlived by Tomoya Ichijouji. Both Red King and Zamsher watched the former's EX form stroll across the stage, then Red King threw a boulder at Zamsher that the latter sliced in half with his katana before being called back, then the sliced boulder fell onto and hurt Red King's feet. Miclas then showed up and knocked down Red King and then the latter was out. ^{Ultraman Ginga Theater Special: Ultra Monster ☆ Hero Battle Royale!}

Ultraman Ginga S

Originally as part of Alien Chibull Exceller's collection, EX Red King's Spark Doll was given to Android One Zero where she "Monslived" into EX Red King to fight Shepherdon. After Ultraman Victory took Shepherdon's place to fight her, Ultraman Ginga was summoned and he destroyed the monster with Ginga Thunderbolt, followed by Ginga Cross Shot. Despite the fact that he won the fight, Victory quickly stole the Spark Doll from Ginga and "Ultlance" his right hand into EX Red King Knuckle, as the fight between the two Ultras began. ^{The Opening Force}

In episode 8, Hikaru Raido Ultlived into him as the first monster to fight Five King. He tried punching Five King, but his armor proved too hard for him to penetrate and EX Red King was quickly knocked down by Five King's Gol Melba Cannon. ^{Fight to the Death in the Morning Glow}

• The EX Red King suit of Ultra Galaxy NEO was reused for this series.

Ultraman X

Red King returned in Ultraman X, as he was awakened by the Dark Thunder Energy and rose up from underground to go on a rampage and frighten Space Cat Mu. Daichi transformed into X to fight Red King but, as soon as he materialized, Mu rushed towards him and comforted him, making both X and Red King confused, leaving the latter to ignore it, continue its rampage and fight with X after he swatted Mu away. The Ultra had the upper hand at first, but then he grabed Mu after she tried to attack him.

After that, Red King transformed into EX Red King; Mu and X struggled against him. X later transformed into his Exceed form, caused the Dark Thunder Energy within EX Red King to vanish and turned him into a Spark Doll with his Xanadium Beam. ^{Wataru's Romance}

In the final episode of Ultraman X, after Greeza destroyed the Xio base, Red King was forcefully awakened in his EX form alongside EX Gomora and Tsurugi Demaaga, but he was eventually absorbed after being turned back into a Spark Doll by Greeza and the alien copied EX Red King's Flame Road as a result. After speaking out to Gomora and striking Greeza right in the center of his chest Red King, along with all of the other Spark Dolls, traveled to X and united with him. Cyber Red King's power was used to help form the Hybrid Armor and power the Ultimate Xanadium. After Greeza was defeated once and for all, Red King, along with the numerous other Cyber Cards and Spark Dolls appeared and thanked Daichi as he thanked them. ^{The Rainbow Land}

Ultraman X The Movie: Here He Comes! Our Ultraman

Based on the previous Spark Doll, Red King's data was used to create Cyber Red King (サイバーレッドキング, Saibā Reddo Kingu), now contained in a Cyber Card. It was used by the Land Musketty, and fired its Red King Armor-Piercing Bullet alongside Cyber Gomora's Cyber Super Oscialltory Wave, and the King Joe Destroy Cannon to intercept Zaigorg. ^{Ultraman X The Movie: Here He Comes! • In the same movie, Red King's arm design was carried over to the main antagonist himself, Zaigorg.

Ultraman Orb

Red King appeared as one of five Kaiju Cards and was used by Jugglus Juggler in a card game with Alien Nackle Nagus and Alien Metron Tarude.

Ultraman Geed

Red King's Kaiju Capsule is used by Kei Fukuide as a component of Skull Gomora.

Ultraman R/B

Red King first emerged from Mt. Muho at around 9:00 AM and made his way towards downtown. Katsumi Minato and Isami Minato transformed into Ultraman Rosso Aqua and Ultraman Blu Flame respectfully to take it down. Despite the fact that they outnumbered him, the two Ultras proved to be no match for Red King's physical strength. While Rosso did get a hit on the Kaiju with his Splash Bomb, Red King grabbed the second one and threw it at Rosso, who took the attack to defend Blu, and defeated them both by knocking them down with his mighty arms. With their Color Timers flashing, Red King turned around and walked off with a suspicious drone watching over them.

During Katsu's baseball game, it is soon revealed that Makoto Aizen was the one who summoned Red King and all of the previous Kaiju beforehand. He summoned Red King on screen with his own version of the Gyro and proceeded to begin his rampage once again, but was soon met by Ultraman Blu Aqua. Despite the fact that Blu once stomped on Red King's feet to escape a grip, he was still no match for him physically. Blu was soon saved by Rosso and the two teamed up to fight him once again, but once again the two were outmatched by Red King and the Kaiju had the nerve to injure Rosso's shoulder. The two Ultras then brought out their R/B Sluggers and managed to get a hit on him with their Cross Sluggers, but Red King kept on coming and proved to be a formidable foe.

Just as things were looking grim, Katsu grabbed one of the R/B Crystals that he got from his baseball coach and after being healed by Blu's Aqua Jet Blast, he fired his Zero Twin Slicer at the kaiju. Red King managed to hold the attack for a bit, but in the end, he ended up getting defeated and destroyed by the new attack. His Crystal was soon recovered by the same drone from earlier. ^{The Winning Ball of Light}

Trivia

• This Red King is much more competent at fighting compared to his other counterparts' comical nature in other media, as he was able to defeat Rosso and Blu with ease in their first encounter, even redirecting Rosso's energy bullet back at him. During their second battle, he was shown to be smart enough to remember Rosso's earlier injury and target it.
  • Kiyotaka Taguchi himself referred to this incarnation as "the most violent Red King in history."
  • It also appears that it lacks its iconic weakness as seen when Blu steps on its feet; it only leaves him annoyed.
• For some reason, his roar is mixed up with EX Red King's roar.
• This is the first time Red King has ever defeated an Ultra, and it was two at the same time.

Ultra Galaxy Fight: New Generation Heroes

Two Red Kings appear in the miniseries, both the original and second generation, the latter returning after 52 years.

In aftermath of empowering Ultra Dark-Killer and Ultraman Zero Darkness, Ultraman Tregear left his magical space from his fight with Ultraman Ribut, while the two Red Kings were sent to replace him in the fight. Trivia

• Red King II's appearance in the fight marks the first time that the second generation of a monster or alien has returned in canon, not counting Remodeled Verokron, as he was still a different variation.
• Red King II's suit was newly created and proposed by Koichi Sakamoto in order to have a tag team battle of two Red Kings.
  • It lacks the bump on the neck part of the suit, since this version never swallowed any hydrogen bombs.
• This Red King II's death is reminiscent of the original Red King II's death where it was sliced apart by an energy slash through its neck.

Ultraman Taiga

While not appearing in person, the genes of Red King were fused with the genes of Gomora and Belial to recreate Skull Gomora. ^{I Can't Hear Your Voice}

Ultraman Z

Two Red Kings appeared, awakened by dynamite explosions in a quarry. The male went out and attacked the nearest city, Haruki's home town. In order to save a small child, Haruki transformed into Ultraman Z Beta Smash and started to brawl with the monster. Yoko appeared in King Joe STORAGE Custom to help, but a second Red King appeared from the quarry and she went to fight it.

After Ultraman Z destroyed the first Red King, he went to join Yoko's fight, only to discover that the two monsters were a mated pair, and were only defending their egg. After shielding the female Red King from King Joe STORAGE Custom's Pedanium Particle Cannon, Z allowed her to retreat back underground with her egg. ^{What Must Be Defended}

The death of the male Red King still haunted Haruki, and made him wonder if killing monsters was really the right thing. This memory also prevented him and Z from finishing off Grigio Raiden during their two fights. ^{The Cry of Life}

Red King B was one of the monsters absorbed by Celebro via Ultroid Zero, with her genetic material and energy harvested for use in creating Destrudos. As Red King B was reduced to atoms, resulting in her death; a furious Ultraman Z arrived only seconds too late. After witnessing the death of the monster he fought so hard to protect, Z immediately engaged in battle with Ultroid Zero, defending the egg from the machine’s attacks before attempting to place it out of reach in the surrounding rocks. Red King B’s DNA manifested as her head and neck extending from Destrudos’s right shoulder, as well as the chimera's lower legs and feet.

The fate of the egg was left unknown after Destrudos fired the D4 Ray. ^{The Game to Extinction}

Ultraman Decker

A Red King appeared and rampaged in the urban area where the Gregore family Grace and Mika happen to be around, with GUTS-Select deployed to keep the monster at bay. After Kanata summoned Windom to briefly push the monster aside, Grace turned to his true self and fought Red King, struggling with his age while GUTS-Select provided cover before the monster retreated underground.

Eventually, much later when Grace agreed to a match with GUTS-Select, Red King appeared to interrupt, having been infected by the Spheres, transforming it into Sphere-Red King (スフィアレッドキング, Sufia Reddo Kingu). Ultraman Decker appeared to hold the monster off, but Grace then joined the fight after forfeiting his match with the defense team and held off the monster long enough for GUTS Gryphon to fire the experimental Hyper Thorn Laser to the monster's throat, despite the risk of getting the alien injured as well. Fortunately, Decker was able to use the Ultra Dual Sword to summon his Dimensional Card Monsters and teleport Grace away from the Sphere Synthetic Monster's explosion. ^{Standing Tall for Someone Special}

Another Sphere-Red King appeared along with Sphere-Gomora and Sphere-Neomegas, having been restored by groups of coalescing Spheres when Agams used the Terraphaser to call the Spheres to his side to prepare for the arrival of the Mother Spheresaurus. The three monsters easily trounced Decker until he barely managed to finish them off all at once using both the Ultra Dual Sword and Decker Shield Calibur. ^{The Sky of Despair}

Trivia

• The Red King II suit used since Ultra Galaxy Fight: New Generation Heroes is represented as the appearing Red King I in this series, presumably since the original suit from Ultraman Max is modified into Sphere-Red King.
  • Red King "II"'s fight with Grace is also a tribute to the first Gregore in Ultraman Dyna, who used Mons-Ahgar II as a demonstration for Imit-Ultraman Dyna's might.
  • Additionally, its weak point being the throat is a reference to Red King II's first appearance in Ultraman having swallowed six hydrogen bombs and getting them stuck inside its neck.

Ultraman Blazar

Although physically unseen, Teruaki mentioned that Red King I appeared on Tatari Island, one of the Ogasawara Islands. According to Choryu News, an operation to capture Red King I was carried out by the GGF, but the kaiju managed to escape with its current whereabouts unknown.

Red King II was first seen fighting Guigass in the Japanese Alps in a battle of dominance, and eventually won. But with nothing but the snow white plains of the Alps stretching out as far as the eye could see, the two kaiju then headed towards human settlements. In response, the SKaRD deployed Earth Garon to engage Guigass, who first appeared from beneath the mountains and was headed towards Shomai-Matsumoto. While Earth Garon had the upper hand at first, the sudden appearance of Red King II helped to even the odds.

Noticing that some civilians had yet to evacuate, Gento transformed into Ultraman Blazar to drive the kaiju back. Red King II, who faced Blazar as Guigass took on Earth Garon, was evenly matched with the Ultra but found an opening that resulted in Blazar being caught in Guigass' freezing breath. Fortunately, the timely arrival of Firdran allowed the Ultra to thaw himself out of the ice. Under Red King II's coercion, Guigass engaged Blazar in a bullfight but eventually collided with Red King II. As both kaiju picked themselves up off the ground, Blazar freed Earth Garon from its icy prison, and together they finished off Red King II and Guigass with the Earth Fire and Tilsofird Fire Dragon Shot. ^{Insurance Hero}

Ultraman: Rising

Although Red King does not appear in person, his biological data is stored in the KDF database, suggesting that he was defeated by the KDF in a previous battle.^{Ultraman: Rising}

Ultraman Arc

Three months prior to the series, the yet-unnamed Ultraman Arc made his first appearance on Earth. During this initial period of activity, Arc fought against Red King, as seen during a TV report of the giant's previous battles.^{Arc to the Future}

Red King appeared in this video game, as well as a sub-variation of it called Armored King.

Ultraman Fighting Evolution Rebirth

Red King reappeared in the video game Ultraman Fighting Evolution Rebirth.

He first appeared in episode 2 of the game's story mode. After Ultraman had defeated Bullton, Alien Mefilas had Geronimon revive Gomora and Red King to lure Ultraman into a trap. Ultraman arrived at the monster's location and managed to defeat Red King while Gomora managed to escape, but not without losing his tail to Ultraman.

After Red King was defeated, Alien Baltan appeared and enhanced Red King's strength, transforming him into EX Red King (EXレッドキング, Ī Ekkusu Reddo Kingu). With his strength enhanced, EX Red King was then placed inside a volcano to increase his power even further. Ultraman Taro then appeared after hearing the commotion (the latter having recently defeated Tyrant) and managed to kill EX Red King.

Kaiju Busters and Kaiju Busters POWERED

Red King was one of the many Kaiju to appear during the Kaiju Busters series. A subspecies of Red King appears in this game called Red King Ice (レッドキング氷, Reddo Kingu Kōri).

Trivia

• The Ice version is likely a tribute to Red King II, which appeared in the frozen Japanese Alps to fight Guigass and Dorako.

ULTRAMAN

Main article: Red

In ULTRAMAN, an alien by the name of Red appears. This alien bears more than a passing resemblance to the Red King species despite being closer to humans in size and shape.

Mega Monster Rush Ultra Frontier

Red King appeared in three mini videos for this video game as sport for the main alien trio. His body was covered in plasma crystals that, when destroyed, acted as game points for the player.

Red King Hunting

Alien Mefilas Djent sent The Rush Hunters alien team, Baltan Battler Barel, Guts Gunnner Garm and the rookie Magma Master Magna to hunt the Kaiju as sport. Garm first used his cross-shaped laser cannon to topple a stalagmite to stop it. Later, Magna use this as an opening to strike Red King, but failed. Red King chased them as Barel split into three in order to evade the monster's boulder and later used his Shurikens to strike the Plasma shards on its back. However, still not enough, he used the monster's stupidity by baiting himself in order for Red King to chase him as it bashed through some stalagmites, destroying all the shards on its back. But a single Plasma Soul shard appeared in its mouth. Magna used this as an opportunity to engage the Force Sabre attack; however, before he could reach it, the Plasma Soul was snipped by Garm.

Plasma Killersaurus Hunting

Red King appeared at the very end alongside Neronga, Dinosaur Tank, Antlar, Eleking, Verokron, King Joe, Gandar, and Super-Earth Gomora and about to face off against the trio and many Alien Metron, Waroga, Kyrieloid, Alien Zarab, other Alien Guts, Alien Babarue, Alien Chibull in exosuits, Yapool, Alien Temperor, Alien Nackle, Alien Zetton and other Alien Magma.

Ultra Zone

Red King reappeared throughout the series Ultra Zone.

Red King was the monster of the segment "Kaiju English," in episode 1. During the segment, it was stated he came from Tatara Island. It also stated that he lacked intelligence but was very brutal, as well as that he looked like Hayato Ichihara.

During episodes 11 and 12 of the segment "Bad Monster Zetton," a rival gang of the titular gang hired Red King as their enforcer to beat up Zetton and steal his girlfriend. Zetton, however, fought Red King and won his girlfriend back the episode after.

During episodes 10 and 11, there was a segment that retold the events of episode 8 of the original Ultraman (Red King's debut episode) known as "The Secret of Suflan Island." Unlike the original episode, however, it was an expedition group that journeyed to the island; also Red King battled the monsters Birdon and Banpira.

Red King's last appearance in the series would be in the series finale, in which he and several other monsters and aliens accompanied Riho Takata as she sung the opening theme song to Ultraman Mebius.

Ultraman: A New Power of Singapore

On a peaceful day in Singapore, the peace was disturbed when Red King exploded from out of the ground. As the beast marched its way to the center of Singapore, it was joined by a Neronga and a Gubila. As the citizens ran for their lives, Ultraman flew into the scene, fighting the three in the Singapore River. Red King threw the Warrior of Light to the ground and the three advanced. Suddenly, the eyes of the signature Merlion statue flashed and the beast itself appeared. Ultraman and the Merlion then combined their forces to fight the three invading kaiju, stopping them.
